2013-2014 Board of Directors Officers

MESSAGE FROM THE PRODUCER

President

Welcome to Rome Little Theater! You are in for something special tonight as you watch this cast and production team perform Grease. This has been such a fulfilling production to take part in. I've done this many, many times before, but I'm always humbled and amazed at what happens when you bring people of intense passion and incredible talent together to create this art. Watching this show take form hasn't disappointed. David Clonts, a fabulously talented and creative mind, has taken his vision for this show and brought it to life. Thank you for letting me tag along. Working with you is always a pleasure. Tina Brinson, I've said this before, but you are the Queen of Everything: a title I can only aspire to. Thank you for your endless support and optimism. Suzanne Clonts, you are my friend and role model. Everything you do is with grace. To this amazing cast- I am honored to have worked with you. I have learned from each of you, and watching you work both individually as well as a team inspires me to be better. Just so you know- I won't rest till we've worked together again. My only regret with this show is not being onstage with you! Thank you for your commitment to the show and each other. It has not gone unnoticed. There are countless other folks to thank, and I know I will forget someone. The bottom line is, like every other production, there have been hours and hours of love and energy that have gone into this production, and there is no way any one of us could have done it without every minute of help we've had. The greatest gift you can ever receive is when someone gives of their talents, time and heart. That's what I have been given by being able to take part in this production. It's what we hope you, our audience, receives tonight. We do this for you. We hope you are surprised, challenged and entertained. Thank you for sharing an evening with us. And if you want to sing along, we won't stop you!

Mandy Maloney

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR Hello everyone, and thank you for coming to the Historic DeSoto Theatre to see Rome Little Theatre's production of Grease. Since it's debut in Chicago in 1971, and then on to Broadway in 1972, Grease the Musical has left us singing our way out of theaters all across America. Today, for you, I hope we do the same. The message of Grease remains just as relevant today as it was in Jim Jacobs' and Warren Casey's 1959 Rydell High. I hope you find yourself somewhere in the cast and walk the halls of Rydell with us tonight. All the issues that confronted the Ringtails of Rydell in1959, still demand the attention of our youth today. This show brings theatre buffs and movie lovers alike to the the box office with great expectations. We hope to exceed those expectations while surprising you along the way. This has been a very challenging show to produce. Coordinating rehearsal time among the actors has been especially challenging. Fortunately, we got started early, building props and casting, to make up for the limited days we had in the theatre to prepare. There are a few performances that I think you will especially enjoy, but I'll let you decide which are your favor-

ites. It has been great getting to know these very talented young people. Great friendships have been forged, and a lot of fun had, "Shake-in at the High School Hop." I would also like to say a special thank you to my production staff for handling the dozens of behind the scene tasks that have made this production come together. Mandy Maloney, producer and costume design, thanks for the countless emails trying to manage the challenging schedule. Thanks to Tina, who arranged numerous promotional opportunities for us to get out into the community and perform and promote our show. To Pam Shoemaker who can make anyone look like a star with her makeup; to Tracy Page, our photographer, who is a true artist in every way; to Brendon Earp and Tim Naddy, who in addition to rehearsing 4 days a week, were there for almost every set-build session. And to one of my best friends in the world, Matt Shoemaker, thanks for helping to build the mother of all props, (so far)... "Grease Lightnin!" Enjoy the Show!

David Clonts

Show Synopsis Grease is the 1950's rock 'n' roll musical surrounding Rydell High's spirited class of 1959; gum chewing, hub cap stealing, hot rod loving boys and their wise cracking girls in bobby socks and pedal pushers. While hip Danny Zuko and wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski resolve the problems of their mutual attraction, the gang sings and dances its way through such nostalgic scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the burger palace and drive in movie. Grease's eight year run made Broadway history and it's long running revival put it among today's most popular musicals.

A Guide to

Theatre Etiquette Arrive early It's a good idea to arrive at least 30 minutes early so you can have plenty of time to find a parking spot, pick up your tickets, use the rest room and get something at the concession’s counter. Use the restroom BEFORE the show and DURING intermission Turn your cell phone off Even if you have it on vibrate, people can still hear the buzzing and it's very distracting. Don't talk or text on the phone DURING the performance. If you need to take a call, please wait until a scene change before you leave. Coming and Going Please don't get up and leave during the performance unless it's an emergency. If you do need to leave or come back in, please wait until there is a scene change. Fidgeting Please sit still. Bumping your elbows into your neighbors or kicking the seat in front of you is annoying. If you have kids, please keep them in control. « Sight lines Try to avoid large hairdos and hats. Also avoid snuggling up to your date because it might block someone's view behind you. Photos Videotaping and taking photos during the performance is a distraction to the performers, other patrons and is often illegal. Please don’t take photos during the show. Other Etiquette Guidelines

« Please do not make noise with candy wrappers or popcorn bags. « Outside food and beverages are not permitted in the DeSoto Theatre. « Go easy with the perfume and cologne, many people are allergic. « The Overture (intro music at the start of a musical theatre show) is a part of the performance, so please be quiet when it begins. « Don't put or throw anything on the stage. « Pay attention to the announcements that are being made prior to each show about the rules and regulations and the location of the fire exits. « Do not whistle or scream out to the performers, except for a Bravo or Brava in the finale. Now for some Dos: « Do laugh in appropriate places. « Do applaud with enthusiasm in the appropriate places. « Do tell all your friends, after the show, what a great time you had. « Do applaud when the performance is over; doing so shows the cast and the crew how much you appreciated their hard work and effort. « Stand and applaud if you really thought the show was great.

« Please refrain from talking, humming, or singing along with the show, except when encouraged to do so by the performers. « Please wait for an appropriate time to dig something out of your pocket or bag.

Favorite past shows include Alice in Wonderland, Annie, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Broadway Spectacular IV, and Seussical the Musical where she was honored to play the ever loyal, long- suffering Gertrude McFuzz. Abigail would like for you to know that there is more to her than singing, dancing and acting. When not on stage, she sometimes sings about acting and acts like she is dancing! Abigail hopes that Grease takes you back to your yesteryears and many fond memories. Please return to see her on this stage in April for The Little Mermaid, Jr. Abigail warmly invites you to join the Rome Little Theatre family with an annual membership and make this your ‘Home Away from Home’ too! Elizabeth hopes that you enjoy the show and see the effort that has been put into the production! He is represented by East Coast Talent and plans to move to Atlanta to continue studying theatre. Emily Earp - Frenchy Emily graduated from Berry College in May 2011 and has made Rome her home. mittee for giving him this incredible and fun opportunity. Emily McKnight - Choreographer Emily, Owner and Lead Instructor of Dance Works of Rome, is a third generation dancer, following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother. While her family’s dance history began in 1934, Emily’s dance training began exactly 50 years later, in 1984. By 1989, she had become a competitive dancer, traveling the southeast. From 1989 through 1998, Emily won awards at multiple dance competitions including Rising Star, Winners Talent Show Case, Dance Masters of America, American Dance Awards, American Dance Spectrum, Dance Educators of America, and Show Stopper competitions. With Show Stopper, she and her dance troupe advanced to the elite National Finals division after winning an award for top score and given the honor of “Overall Outstanding Dance Performance.” Emily’s most recent dance trophy was acquired when she and Dr. Dan Pate won the “People’s Choice” award at the 2011 Rome Celebrity Dance Challenge. Then at the 2012 Rome Celebrity Dance Challenge, Emily served as “Lead Judge” on the judges panel. In addition to being a competitive dancer, Emily was selected to be a Georgia Dance Star and performed at the Georgia Olympic Games. As for Emily’s teaching career, it began in 1996. At the age of 16, her dance instructor appointed her to teach classes throughout the summer. Also in 1996, Emily choreographed her high school theater department’s production of Oliver. Emily continued with her involvement in theater when, in 2011, she choreographed Rome Little Theatre’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and in 2012 choreographed Rome Little Theater’s production of The Sound of Music. Then in 2012, two of Emily’s dancers attended auditions for Abby Lee Miller, and were seen on the Lifetime television show “Dance Moms.” In May of 2014, Emily’s studio will celebrate their third annual recital. She continues providing instruction at Dance Works of Rome in genres including hip hop, ballet, jazz, tap, modern, lyrical, and stunting & acrobatics. Emily also continues to provide her dancers with the opportunity to compete. Currently Dance Works of Rome is Rome’s only competitive dance studio. Tim Naddy - Kenickie Tim is honored to be performing with Rome Little Theatre again, having recently portrayed Lance Corporal Harold W. Dawson in A Few Good Men. His previous performing experience spans across all types of media: stage, radio, TV and film, however, he admits his favorite is in the classroom. Tim states that, “when teaching Accounting, sometimes to get through to the students, I’ve got to think and act like a student. It helps me deliver the “boring” info with pizazz.” Pizazz is what he has and he is excited to bring it to the DeSoto stage. Tim is a CPA and Fraud Examiner with his own IEE Consulting firm as well as an Accounting Professor at Rome’s very own Shorter University. He resides here in Rome with his wife Jennifer and three boys: Jake, Luke and JD; all of whom he would like to thank immensely for their patience, support and encouragement while Daddy’s out “makin’ things happen.”

Mary Ortwein - Miss Lynch Mary grew up in Boston always wanting to be a teacher (and a Mom). She finally made it in 1989 when she graduated from Berry College and taught for 15 years at St. Mary's School. Since 2006 Mary has been working part-time as RLT's Office Manager. She enjoys being a teacher onstage as often as possible, and is especially happy to be "Ol' Lady Lynch" in RLT's 2nd production of Grease. (It's a promotion from her role as one of several unnamed teachers in the first production in 1999!) Join us as "We Go Together" rocking & rolling back into the 1950’s world of Rydell High. Go, Ringtails! Danny Price Teen Angel/Johnny Casino This is Danny’s 9th show at RLT. A sixtime Roman Award winner: for Best Director – in 2012 for The Sound of Music, sharing the award with the incomparable and much-missed Holly Moore, and in 2010 for My Fair Lady (and set design with David Clonts), with both also winning Best Show. He was also privileged to work as Assistant Director to Wendell Barnes in Steel Magnolias in 2009. Onstage his role as Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat earned Male Showstopper in 2011. He appeared as long-suffering agent Herbie in Gypsy in 2009, 2008’s summer Broadway Spectacular 2, and the over-bearing Reverend Shaw Moore in Footloose. His first RLT role was as Marine turned lawyer Fred Gailey in the 2007 Christmas show Here’s Love. As always, thanks to my family for their love and support and my high school drama/choral teacher Carolen Hansard for her life-long lessons in hard work and expecting the best from yourself. Danny dedicates this performance to his youngest son Nicholas – an inspiration and role model with his indomitable spirit. Enjoy the show!
