ROM FLEXI 1000/400
Successful beyond expectations The FLEXI 1000/400 is the newest addition to the ROM FLEXI line. It has only been on the market since 2015, but is proving to be very successful because one after another leaves our showroom. Two of our relations who love to work with the FLEXI 1000/400, the English company Euroloo Ltd and the Czech based Johnny Servis explain why they like working with it so much. The FLEXI 1000/400 has a 1000-litre vacuum tank and a 400-litre fresh water tank in basalt grey. This grey colour greatly reduces the formation of algae due to UV-radiation. The empty weight is only 380 kg. Despite its large capacities the unit is lightweight and compact. Even with full tanks, a 3,5 tonnes vehicle will not be overloaded. That is exactly why Gary Mead, owner of Chelmsford based Euroloo has ordered six FLEXI 1000 unit this year alone. “We do not want bigger machines, because then we would need bigger vehicles. With the FLEXI 1000 on a flatbed we can take on 4 cabins. There’s no need for another driving license, which makes
finding good personnel a lot easier. It’s hard enough as it is already.” “The machines are great to work with”, Mr. Mead says. “If you want quality then you get a ROM. ROM do things properly. The machines are easy to use and they last for a long time. The first unit we bought was a ROM. We got it ten years ago and we still use it as a back-up. No more second hand machines that keep breaking down, but new ROM units for us. Parts are in stock and delivered quickly. In part because of this we haven’t had any down time in 18 months and we would like to keep it that way”. At our customer Johnny Servis they are also very satisfied with the FLEXI
1000/400. The company based in Beroun in the Czech Republic is a true ROM-ambassador. Johnny Servis has an impressive amount of 13 FLEXI 1000 units in their fleet. “The FLEXI 1000/400 is a smart investment for us. The purchase price is attractive. But more important, the machine is reliable. I can trust that the units do what they should do. Without any problems. We can do the jobs we are hired for on a daily basis and do not have to disappoint any customers. Because that’s what it comes down to in the end: being able to do your job and earn a living.”

ROM PRESENT AT SEVERAL TRADE FAIRS
The latest technologies and fair promotions
Each year there are several trade fairs for the portable toilet industry. The main events are the EUROTOI in Germany and the PSE and Showman’s Show in the United Kingdom. These trade fairs are a great way to see and experience the latest ROM developments for yourself. And, whilst enjoying a nice cold beer, it is also nice to see each other under other circumstances than during work time.
For the European mainland the EUROTOI, that took place on the race track of the Nürburgring in Germany, is the main fair that showed everything in the field of portable toilets. It was organised in March and ROM showed a number of machines, such as a great new unit for our customer Boels Rental. The Hi-Vac suction hoses attracted a great deal of interest this year because of a firm on-fair promotional offer.
The PSE and the Showman’s Show are the leading trade fairs for the British Isles. Our FLEXI 1000/400 and the TYPE 2 were showed there and we very successful, since during the fair the first machines were sold! Next year there will unfortunately not be a PSE fair, but the Showman’s Show will take place in October and of course, ROM will be there.

ROM CONQUERS THE BRITISH MARKET
‘You produce what I want’ The portable toilet business is a separate profession in the United Kingdom. Where on the mainland we like to work with high pressure, in the UK they like to use low pressure. That said, ROM’s influence in the British market is increasing. According to Mick Bowman of Toilets+ Ltd, the reason for that is crystal clear: “you produce what I want”. Mick Bowman is the owner of Toilets+ Ltd, a company based in Wymondham in the east of England. “I’ve known ROM since the Showman’s Show in October 2015, so that’s not even that long. I had been looking for a pick-up unit that I can place on and remove from my trucks myself. I had contacted other builders and explained what I want, but they could not deliver what I want. And at the Showman’s Show it became clear
that ROM can”, Mr. Bowman explains. After the initial meeting between ROM and Mr. Bowman, the first order soon followed for a TYPE 2 800/200. And that working with a ROM is a great success is very clear, because since November 2015, Toilets+ have ordered no less than eleven ROM machines! “The possibility to change the vehicles for the units is great. Besides that, ROM’s service and
quality is very good. I now have eight vehicles with a ROM TYPE 2 on it and another one as a spare should we need it. Because we have multiple depots, I can now provide the entire South East England with portable toilets and service with a ROM machine.”

‘A standard machine just wouldn’t work in developing countries’ ROM have been producing machines to empty and clean mobile toilets for 35 years. Often, these are standardised machines that can be employed all over the world. Recently, ROM was contacted to join a very special project: the development of a machine especially designed for cleaning and emptying latrines in developing countries. As a result ROM has developed the ROM Mobile Desludging Unit, a mobile cleaning unit to clean and empty latrines.

Managing Director Eugène Plompen talks about the project: “We were contacted by The Netherlands Red Cross and the WASTE organisation. For years they have been working on a project for which humanitarian organisations such as the Red Cross have container units at the ready for when international disasters such as flooding or earth quakes occur. Each container unit has a specific function such as medical assistance or sanitary facilities. For the latter, we were approached. There is a need for a machine that can clean latrines. Especially during emergency situations it is of the utmost importance that the sanitary facilities are good. Because of the fact that our unit empties the latrines and discharges the faecal sludge, outbreaks of various diseases such as cholera are prevented”.
LATRINES “Before, latrines were barely or not cleaned at all. And when a lot of people do their needs there, one can easily
imagine how unhygienic that becomes. After a while, the latrine is full. It is then covered with sand and a few yards on, a new latrine is dug. Because of the ROM Desludging Unit it is no longer needed to cover the latrines, since they can now be emptied and cleaned. The latrine’s life span is prolonged in this way. This is important, especially in urban areas. But, and this is perhaps even more important, the hygienic standard is elevated significantly. By using our machine the hygiene improves in such a manner that the spread of diseases can be prevented”, Mr. Plompen tells.
TAILOR-MADE Developing a machine for such a specific market is tailor-made. “The unit that we have developed is no ordinary toilet servicing unit as we would normally build it. It would just not work in the developing countries”, Mr. Plompen explains. “Here in the Netherlands and the rest of the developed countries are used to have an abundance of water.
That is not the case in for instance African countries. It’s very important that the machine can clean effectively with as little water as possible. The ROM Mobile Desludging Unit can do that. We have equipped the machine with spray guns and specific nozzles. The vacuum unit empties the latrine and with the spray gun the latrine is cleaned. The machine is extra-durable and reliable in order to function under all circumstances such as in desert sand.” The first ROM Mobile Desludging Unit is now operating in Malawi, Africa. “We hear nothing but positive experiences about working with this unit. We have already produced seven units for various humanitarian organisations and I’m sure there will be many more!”, Mr. Plompen concludes.

HYRTOALETTEN NEW ROM PARTNER IN SCANDINAVIA
‘We are very proud to repres Since 2015, the Swedish company Hyrtoaletten have been official ROM partner in Sweden. Owner Pia Arvidsson talks about her company with pride. “Hyrtoaletten was founded 1993 in Göteborg and is still owned by one of the founders.”

sent ROM in Sweden” north to Ystad in south. We own twenty depots in Sweden and in Norway we have two, one in Kongsvinger and one in Oslo. In Finland, we work with a partner. But for the future we want more”, Ms. Arvidsson says.
We started as a small family company with two employees – just having jobs from April to September. The core business in the beginning was renting out toilets for events and recreation areas, like golf courses,” Ms. Pia Arvidsson explains. “In 1995 we initiated franchising to meet the raising demand. A couple of years later we started with three franchisees and two of them are still working with us today. Nowadays, there are twelve people employed at the head office in Göteborg and about thirty in all 22
companies. In total we have about 3000 mobile toilets all over Sweden, 510 of them in Göteborg.” Hyrtoaletten is doing great and Arvidsson is proud of that, and with good reason. “Our core business has expanded. We focus on rental, franchising, sales and service. Besides other brands, we are also partner for ROM. And we have our own brand of soap and are retailer for Abena toilet paper.”
“We want to expand our services in Sweden, so we cover the country better. We are looking for a partner in Denmark. That we can offer service in the whole of Scandinavia. We are constantly on the lookout for new and good products for us and our franchisees. It is also quite a challenge to find new business and services during the low season, so we can also earn our money during winter.”

SPECIAL REQUEST BY BOELS RENTAL
‘We want a toilet servicing doesn’t look like a toilet serv
When you say Rental, you soon say Boels. With almost 3.000 employees and over 350 branches in ten European countries, Boels has become one of the largest rental companies in Europe. Whether you are looking for a drill or an excavator, Boels has it. It’s not without reason that for years on end their slogan was “Boels rents almost everything”.
No wonder then that you can go to Boels for a portable toilet. Or, even better, toilets. Because with over 10.000 ‘Bio Boxes’ as Boels like to call their temporary toilet facilities, no garden party, building site or event has to go without. And whether you like to rock to guitar riffs at Pinkpop or lose yourself to the house beats of Tomorrowland festival, chances are that you will visit a Boels’ toilet. Of course, all these thousands of toilets need to be collected and cleaned. And to do that, Boels has been using ROM toilet servicing units for over 20 years now. During that period, several types have been in use. Entirely to satisfaction, because recently ROM has produced an exclusive model for Boels.
10
ROMBV.COM
“We wanted a toilet servicing unit that is functional, but also expresses the quality that fits Boels. Often a toilet servicing machine is associated with dirty work. Even more so when they look unclean. We wanted to take away this image not only with our customers but also with our drivers, because we feel it doesn’t suit Boels. Because of this, apart from functionality, one of our demands was that the machine would get an attractive appearance”, Rob Koevoets, Manager Sanitation Services at Boels explains. So, Boels fleet manager Jos Leentjes came to ROM with an idea for a housing resulting in the unit looking less like a toilet servicing truck. Not a mainstream concept for ROM. But being
a manufacturer of toilet servicing units for over 35 years, we are not a one-trick pony and we excepted the challenge with pleasure. For ROM, a good interplay with the rental company started, in order to achieve perfect end results. Many meetings followed between manufacturer and customer. It took litres of coffee, many designs and hoarse voices, but the definite design was down on paper and ready for production. “Thanks to the flexibility and knowledge of ROM, there’s a model that we are very proud of. With which we can drive up to our customers confidently and with which our drivers love to work”, Mr Koevoets says.
g truck that vicing truck’
By now, over twenty new bright orange Boels-trucks are driving all through the Netherlands. From party to construction site. Placing toilets, cleaning them and collecting them. Day in, day out. Because of this, Boels values the importance of being able to trust their units blindly. Because downtime simply costs money. For Boels, ROM is the right partner. “Because of the quality and good service”, Mr. Koevoets thinks. “Because if you rent out thousands of toilets on a daily basis that also need cleaning, you need to be able to rely on your unit. This is why we have been working with ROM for such a long time. We know it’s good at ROM.” Besides the new units, Boels also
works with older ROM machines. “They still function perfectly well. We make sure they are maintained well too. Because regular maintenance prevents downtime. We have closed off service contracts for our new machines so we know we are sure of timely maintenance. For instance, ROM lets us know when one of our units needs servicing. That’s great and we don’t have to worry about anything, it’s all being taken care of”, Mr. Koevoets explains.
there were so many great reactions. We are just as enthusiastic ourselves and we will place an order for another 16 of these units. Hopefully they will be ready this spring so they can be put to work during the festival season.”
Rob Koevoets Manager Sanitation Services
That Boels and ROM have hit the mark with this exclusive design clearly showed in all of the reactions we received at the EUROTOI, the leading trade fair in the toilet servicing industry. “We were honoured to see that our truck was showcased at the EUROTOI and that

After sales A ROM machine is a high quality reliable unit, designed to perform and above all, to keep performing. You be able te rely on your machine, always and anywhere. Maintaining your ROM toilet servicing unit therefore deserves your attention. Not (well) maintained service trucks take a lot more money in the long run than maintenance costs themselves. When you cannot use your unit, you not only miss the income you would have had, but you also risk your good relationship with your customer. And that is the last thing you want. Now with the new season fast approaching, contact us now and plan servicing for your machine here at ROM or with one of our local partners near you. Here to the right you can read our tips to prevent leaks and faults for yourself. Small actions that do not take a lot of time, but can save a whole lot of misery.
DAILY RUN • The oil catcher should be emptied every day. If you do not do this, you risk leaks. It also prevents customer complaints regarding oil spillage.
WEEKLY RUN • Check the engine oil level and if necessary top up oil. • Check and clean water filter. Many problems stem from a clogged water filter. No pressure on your lance? Clean the water filter! • Remove the moisture from the moisture trap. If the water trap is too full it creates interference and the machine stops sucking.

• Check the level of the hydraulics tank. This is quite easy by means of the level of glass in the tank. This applies only to PTO driven machines. • Greasing the suction hose reel. • Lubricating the grease nipples. You can find these at the vacuum pump’s axle-sides.

YOUR BENEFITS AT A GLANCE
ROM machines are comfortable to work with. However, there are some options available that make your job even easier. One of those is the option of cabin lifts. With these cabin lifts you can easily and comfortably lift cabins for transport. Without physical discomfort. Safe and ergonomic working are key elements at ROM. One of our customers who has chosen to equip their units with cabin lifts is the company Forma-Rent from Maldegem in Belgium. Leen Foré explains why Forma-Rent chooses to work with the lifts: “Working in this business is obviously quite hard. It is a physical job and it demands a lot of your body. With the interests of our employees in mind we choose for cabin lifts. No longer having to lift makes your job easier and it saves the burden on your body. We really don’t want to work without them”.
• Prevents most common back problems • Increases productivity and decreases the chance of injuries and absence. No more burden, literally and figuratively • Because of the low physical load, you can work efficiently the entire day • Increases health, employability and productivity of your employees • Very user friendly; operation by a single handy lever • Mounted sideways so there’s plenty of space for AdBlue tanks below the frame
A look behind the scenes ROM’s employees do their very best to help you, every day. They do this by building your units, shipping your spare parts of by answering your questions on the phone. And if you have a question about a toilet servicing unit, there’s one guy you go to: Ronald van den Broek, our toilet service expert. A look behind the scenes at ROM. Ronald has been working at ROM for almost ten years now. In the field of toilet servicing, he is a true product expert. There is no machine he doesn’t know and there probably is no customer
he has never spoken to. The work Ronald does here at ROM is very versatile. No two days are alike. “One moment I am in the showroom helping customers, the next I am on the phone trying to solve a problem. Or to find out which part it is that the customer needs. The puzzles are always solved. Whether it is in Dutch, English, German or French. That challenge is what makes my job great. Even after 10 years, I still drive to Barneveld whistling a happy tune.”
