INTRODUCTION This is the brand new magazine from ROM about, and for, toilet service specialists in Europe and beyond. We are rightfully - I believe - proud of it. It is full of interesting articles about our customers. Our After Sales Manager Erik van Walsum also answers your questions about any problems with odour and reduced suction of your machine. Aside from the (further) development of machines the focus at ROM in recent months has been on improving our customer service to you. To this end we have actively searched for partners in your region. They are, just as we are here in the Netherlands, always ready to provide assistance. If you have any questions or want to increase your fleet, please feel free to contact them at any time. In this magazine we proudly introduce a number of our partners abroad. Additionally ROM has also become a member of the toilet service branch association Portable Sanitation Europe. This branch association makes it possible to bundle knowledge and experience and to promote the trade. I hope you enjoy reading the magazine, and if you have any questions please contact us. Thistle Loo Hire, a ROM user for over 20 years The successful company Thistle Loo Hire in Hinckley in the English Midlands, has operated for years with a number of ROM service units, to their full satisfaction. Through the years the company has grown into a large and respected customer. Perhaps a better name would be ROM ambassador... Thistle Loo Hire has been a household name for more than 20 years in the heart of England. The company operates in a radius of over 100 km around its home base in Hinckley in beautiful Leicestershire. The company is equipped to be able to rent out many types of toilets, including sanitary products for a variety of needs. There are even two hiring fleets: one

fleet specially for events and one exclusively for the construction world. The company has collection of ROM machines in house in order to be able to service these two fleets. The machines were originally purchased from our former partner Satellite-Thal and currently directly from ROM. “From the moment that Satellite-Thal started selling ROM units in England we have been operating with one or more FLEXI 1200/800s” owner McGillivray tells. “When purchasing a new unit we mainly consider the quality and service. However the ROM unit have proven their worth by now. The quality is so good that even with extensive use we have never had to make use of servicing. They just keep going!”

Tour d’Europe with toilet units Area Export Manager Toilet Service Gouke Hylkema has made a veritable Tour d’Europe to demonstrate ROM toilet service units in Europe. He criss-crossed the United Kingdom, France and large areas of Germany with the TYPE 2 and the FLEXI 1200/800. The demo tours were a great success.
The Tour d’Europe will start in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Switzerland. Interested in a demonstration at your premises? Phone or mail us! See who your contact is on the back cover of this magazine.
The demo tours enabled toilet service specialists all around Europe to see and experience working with a ROM unit. A large number of new customers became acquainted with the compact and light weight units. Something that is not quite standard, especially in the United Kingdom and France.
Experience it yourself An important plus of a demo tour is that clients can experience for themselves how a machine works. “A demo tour with a machine is a perfect way to get to know the units by ROM”, Gouke Hylkema explains. “Seeing what a unit can do and operating it yourself appeals to the imagination much more than reading a folder. Of course, a folder contains all the information that you would like to know as a customer, but seeing the machine in action is far more tangible.”
customer grew more and more enthusiastic as the demo progressed. The demo ended with the perfect clincher when the customer said: “Unload the machine and leave it here. I want it!” That is exactly what happened. The machine remained behind at Aisne loc réception services. A better result could not have been hoped for!” Hylkema tells.
“Leave it here”
New demo tour
A good example of this was our French client Gillion Philippe of Aisne loc réception services. “We visited him with our French partner FDS PRO to introduce the Type 2. The

in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The tour will then carry on in Europe, in Switzerland, with our Swiss partner Gebrüder Baltensperger. The tour d’Europe will finish with a tour through Germany and Belgium. Would you like the demo tour to come to you? Gebrüder Baltensperger provides top service The Swiss Gebrüder Baltensperger has been a real family business since 1971. Father Hans Baltensperger started the business that specialised in agricultural equipment. The market changed and both sons, Hans and Bruno, decided to expand the business. A partner was found in ROM and by now the company has been delivering ROM sewer cleaning machines as official partner for years. Once again an expansion is in sight, because the brothers and both their sons Guido and Sandro who also work in the business, are enthusiastically selling toilet service units. Bruno Baltensperger and Area Export Manager
Sandro Baltensperger: “The switch over to selling service units actually started off slowly. Some of our sewer customers also became active in the toilet branch so that we could couple our experience in the sewer branch with the toilet service. The market in Switzerland still has a lot of potential and we would like to play a good part in that.” The strength of the “Gebrüder” over the years has always been providing service. All ROM machines are maintained by the company. “Our calling card to our customers. They work with the machines on a daily basis and can count on a good service partner. We are there for them.” More info? www.gebaltag.ch

A VISIT TO EGN Jürgen Hagedorn is in his element at EGN
‘ Why ROM? Well, those machines just won't Gouke Hylkema, Area Export manager Toilet service units, got into his car on the way to EGN Entsorgungsgesellschaft Niederrhein mbH in Viersen in Germany and visited Jürgen Hagedorn, manager “mobile sanitary facilities” there. Mr Hagedorn has been employed since 2009 by the waste collector and processor for more than 1.5 million people in the German federal state: North Rhine-Westphalia. A great company with 430 chauffeurs and more than 230 office staff. All sorts of building sites and events are serviced by EGN, regarding both waste processing and sanitary facilities.

The fact that we are dealing with a real toilet service specialist is apparent from the fact that the company owns 11 ROM toilet service units and no less than 2750 toilet cabins.
The ant What started off in 1923 with the sale of straw for the paper industry has today grown into a total supplier for the removal of waste. Waste treatment, transport and recycling, processing residual waste, biodegradable waste, bulky waste, paper, glass, plastic and dangerous waste... In fact, nothing is too crazy! “The orange ant was added to our logo in 2006”, Jürgen Hagedorn proudly tells. “The intelligence and creativity of this small animal in the area of supply and removal is of great fascination to us. From a few small breadcrumbs to large haulage, an ant can carry, remove and recycle more than 40 times its own body weight! In doing so it implements the entire recycling chain of mother nature. Unbelievable, isn't it?” An ant symbolises
to some extent the nature of EGN: a clever division of labour so that everyone can apply their strengths, a good communication structure and advanced systems for storage and processing.
Experience and pleasure Before Hagedorn put his energy into EGN he worked at a similar company in a similar function. “The toilet service has really become my thing in recent years. The variety in locations, like, for example large construction sites, marathons, and recreational areas, makes the work more interesting. Because clients often want to use our service both for waste management and sanitary provisions internal cooperation is essential. Luckily we do that well”, the specialist laughs.
The best for the client The 11th TYPE T with loading room for six cabins was delivered in April 2014. “All 11 units and everything else comes from ROM, there is a reason for that. Reliability, durability and

Aside from a team being on the road daily to visit our customers, at the same time another colleague is busy with maintenance and repairs to the toilet cabins. ROM fits in well here with us, the quality of the product is undeniable”. “In 2015 we would like to rejuvenate our fleet again by purchasing a new car and toilet service unit. We experience, for example, that cabin hoists and an extra loading platform is increasingly important both for our employees, and for the organisation”.

A ROM unit will give you maximu Compact, light weight and well priced are the basic characteristics of the ROM toilet service units. All units are suitable for mounting onto a pick-up truck, flat truck or chassis, which only requires a modest investment. Due to the low empty weight of the unit (from 360kg) a maximum load capacity is retained. This makes it possible to carry more clean and waste water. How many cabins would you want to clean and empty per day? What driving’ licences do your employees have? Find which unit is suitable for you on the next page.

INTERVIEW
FDS PRO | Your partner par excellence in France
‘France: A thriving market!’ Since the beginning of 2014, toilet specialists can find assistance in their own country. France Détection Services from Le Thor, close to Avignon in the south east of France, is now the partner for toilet service material. FDS is a support for ROM and offers a familiar support centre for customers. Aside from sound advice they also offer a high quality service, which are important criteria for ROM. Vincent Avias, the young and dynamic director of FDS, recently took over the French company that has more than 25 years of experience. Last year they started with a toilet service unit demo tour and the responses have been very encouraging!
“Our goal is to develop the French market, as there is still a lot to gain. To do so we organise demonstrations throughout France and we are present at various fairs. For example, last December we participated in the Pollutec and Pierre will be at the EUROTOI in March to interact with our French clients.”
“Service provision to our customers is a high priority. Customer satisfaction is a priority for FDS. This expansion of our services expands our offerings in the cleaning industry ,” director Vincent Avias explains.

FDS is extremely devoted to ROM products. The company has a dedicated employee who concentrates 100% on ROM: Pierre Carrasco. “Pierre travels through the whole of France as a representative selling ROM products. It was a logical step for him to also start selling the toilet service products”, shares Avias. Pierre Carrasco Tel: +33 (0)6 82 31 75 48 www.fdspro.com
“Oldtimer Type T” at our customer Martin Kraus Aside from the light weight pick-up units in the ROM range the chassis mounted units are also very popular. For instance “Toiletten service Kraus” in Reichertshofen in Germany. For more than 10 years mobile toilets and urinal columns of this company have been emptied and cleaned using the more than 15-year-old ROM Type T units. “This is ideal, we bought these machines second hand at the time and to date they have never let us down. “My employees, but also myself, gladly go on the road with the ROM units.” When we purchased them they were mounted onto a Mercedes Vario, but the vehicle broke down way sooner than the service units, so now they hitch a ride on a Mercedes Atego. That was a really clever investment!” grinned Mr Kraus.

Answer: “The smell of faeces and noise are undesirable side effects that occur during the cleaning of mobile toilets. It is bothersome to you and you will also receive complaints from people in the vicinity. Luckily there is a solution that can be applied to you existing and new machines. A carbon filter reduces the stench of faeces and reduces the noise level!
Answer: “It can occur that the vacuum power decreases. There are a number of things that you can check. The steps you can take to discover what is wrong are divided into “leaks” and “too little air displacement”.
‘ During the cleaning of portable toilets bystanders and myself are bothered by the stench and noise. What can be done about this? ’
AFTER SALES In the toilet industry we experience a definite peak of work in the summer months. Hopefully the past months have flown by for you and you are trained and ready for a new period with an influx of work! Aside from catching your breath, it is also important that your unit is in optimal condition. This way, you can go to work comfortably in the months ahead. In this edition we give an extra tip to reduce stench and noise and we provide answers to how you can ensure that your unit retains maximum suction power. Have a quick look alongside in the "frequently asked questions" section!”
Are your questions not included? Do not hesitate to call us! Tel. +31 (0)342 49 04 17
What causes the odour and noise? • There are faeces in the vacuum tank • Warm weather can increase stench nuisance • When creating vacuum the motor/drive creates (undesirable) noise
Solution | ROM Carbon Filter • Very good performance being an active carbon filter with a low air resistance • Air filtration to reduce stench nuisance • Noise reduction which makes the toilet unit even quieter • Durable stainless steel housing
And further? • The carbon filter element must be replaced 3 to 4 four times a year to optimise working without noise and stench • This will give you increased job satisfaction and bystanders will experience less nuisance
‘ The suction power of my unit is decreasing. What can I do about this? ’
Leaks (somewhere air is being suctioned in, obstructing the formation of vacuum): • Are all valves properly closed? • Is the vacuum hose in good condition? Is it not leaking? • Are the suction hose and ball valve in good condition? TIP: It is easier to find a leak if the machine is set to “pressure”.
Too little air displacement: • Is the vacuum tank full? • Is the moisture or oil trap full? • Is there a blockage in the vacuum hose, reel or tank seals? The machine achieves vacuum, but does not provide sunction. • Is the V-belt properly tensioned? Is it slipping? • Is the motor running correctly? If it is not running at full speed, the vacuum pump will not achieve its maximum capacity
Other causes: • Has the suction power really decreased? Or is the gauge giving an incorrect reading? • Has the suction diminished over time? It is possible that the pump vanes are worn. • The vacuum can also be adjusted with the vacuum safety valve. It must be set to -0.7 bar for an ideal suction power.
