May also marked National Volunteer Week, and we were honoured to receive a formal invitation from Townsville City Council to attend the Volunteering North Queensland Civic Reception. If our Expo demonstrated anything, it’s that the Rollingstone community thrives because of its volunteers. Whether you give your time to the Neighbourhood Centre, SES, Rural Fire Brigade, Lions Club, Fishing Club, Wildlife Carers, P&C, RSL, Men’s Shed, or one of our many peer led groups — our community thanks you.

Our Community Expo and Open Day was a true highlight of May. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who hosted a stall, shared their knowledge, or simply came along to browse and chat with our local community groups. The atmosphere was fantastic, and it was wonderful to see the breadth of activities, services, and opportunities available right here in our own backyard.

Another major milestone this month was the launch of our refreshed Op Shop — now officially christened the Balgal Beach Boutique. The space was formally reopened by Mayor Nick Dametto and Councillor Paul Jacobs, and we couldn’t be prouder of the transformation. It is now not only a safe and functional workspace for our volunteers, but also a warm, welcoming, and enjoyable place for the whole community.

Creating spaces that reflect our values of friendliness, dignity, respect, and inclusion is incredibly important to us at the Neighbourhood Centre, and the Boutique embodies that beautifully. A huge thank you goes to our dedicated Op Shop Coordinator Deb Lack, along with all of our wonderful volunteers, who have poured countless hours into making the Boutique shine. If you haven’t visited yet, we encourage you to pop in — you’re almost guaranteed to find a bargain.

In other exciting news, we were thrilled to be nominated

by Townsville City Council for inclusion in the Strengthening Telecommunications Against Natural Disasters (STAND) program. Installation of our new telecommunications infrastructure will begin in September and will provide free high speed satellite NBN with an 8 hour uninterruptable power supply. This means that even during power outages following a natural disaster, the community will still be able to access vital phone and internet services.

To further strengthen our role as a community hub in times of disaster, we are also considering applying for the RACQ Resilient Energy Centres grant. If successful, this would provide uninterrupted power, refrigeration for medication and food, cooling, mobile phone charging — and potentially even EV charging — for our community during emergencies.

We invite you to take part in our community consultation survey to help guide this work. Details can be found in this issue of the Rag, as well as on our website and social media.

Rollingstone Rag update March was the final issue of The Rag delivered directly to your letterbox.

Collection Points

This decision follows extensive consultation and conversations with community members across various times and venues. Our questionnaire, published in the November and December 2025 editions, received 21 responses from 850 printed copies (2.47%).

Most respondents expressed a preference to keep The Rag in printed form. Some suggested ceasing publication altogether, others recommended moving fully online, and a few proposed combining with publications from Ingham.

Fisherman’s Landing Fishing & Social Club Inc. Welcome to this month’s edition of the Rolly Rag for the Fishing Club.

Children’s Fishing Classic This is now starting to get a little bit closer – to be held 4th July. Sponsorship requests are under way, with a lot of positive responses from potential sponsors that we have spoken to.

All the sponsorship basically raised goes towards the kids in the form of prizes, sausage sizzle afterwards etc. We are starting to get quite a bit of interest – looks like it could be quite a sizeable event, Weekend Away Weekend of 8th to 10th of May about 20 members of the club went up to Bivouac Junction for a social weekend, mainly in caravans, but some tents, swags etc.

And supposedly for fishing – although only a couple of the more intrepid members actually got their rods out and walked across to the River (Burdekin).

All eatable fish. Gavin was declared the winner, as he caught 2 different species.

Markets Saturday 2nd May our first markets for the year were held. Quite a good market, with about 15 stallholders, and plenty of people looking to buy. The stallholders were happy with the day. Well done Sally, our markets coordinator.

Any stallholders interested in a site for next or subsequent markets, please ring Sally on 0407 511 947 who will look after you.

Chris spent a fair bit of time wandering around selling raffle tickets, and Graham was bailing up anyone who walked past. Raffle was won by Len Clarke who was just standing with us when it was drawn.

Congratulations Len – nice $100 seafood voucher from Lounds.

What a great weekend!

Monthly BBQ

Burgers for tea Friday night, then Saturday night Sally and Chris made up a mix for Taco’s – absolutely brilliant. A few of the more imaginative members turned up in Mexican hats.

Last monthly BBQ was again held at the Lions Den on Sunday 26th April .

Chris organised a Pin the Tail on the Donkey, that was hilarious. Especially one of our members pinning the tail on one of the wives by mistake – he was blindfolded, and had been spun around 3 times, so we’ll let you off on that one Bruce!

Sunday being Mother’s Day, the men cooked up a great breakfast, waited on the women – didn’t wear white shirts, bow ties, cummerbunds or anything – just shorts, t-shirts and singlets!

The women loved the attention! – but are used to it as treated like that at home. The evenings rolled on a bit late, but that goes with enjoying yourself I think.

I think we all came home to get some sleep, and to dry out. All in all a brilliant weekend.

Fishing Report Given the fairly ordinary weather, no one has been out much, so not a lot of fish weighed in recently.

Gary caught himself a 42cm Bream down in NSW – that’s a big bream, and on our scoring system is about the same value as catching a 120cm Spanish Mackerel.

A pleasant night, and a great job done by the cordon bleu chefs, led by Mick, and the ladies with the salads and sweets.

Next Monthly BBQ is scheduled for Sunday 31st May – also be at the Lions Den. Raffles The fishing club holds a seafood tray raffle the 4th Friday of every month – this month it will be 26th May. Come on down for a great night at Mystic Sands Sports and Wellness and win a lovely seafood tray.

They are well worth the win!

Great to have you back in board, and I know you enjoyed the weekend away.

Rollingstone & District Lions Club Inc. Hello Rollingstone and a great time of year to be a North Queenslander.

Also a great time also to be a member of our Rollingstone and District Lions Club, enjoying ourselves as we continue supporting local people, assisting other communities and participating in local activities. A snapshot of some of our projects during May:• Held our regular monthly members coffee catchup

as part of our ongoing Lions Wellbeing commitment to our members and friends • Conducted another successful Bunnings BBQ, this

time with support from three lovely ladies from the Crystal Creek Community Sports and Recreation Association. When we heard that a large part of the ceiling in the Crystal Creek Community Hall had fallen in just before ANZAC Day, we were able to have our Lions District Disaster Relief Pledge of $10,000 following the 2025 Flooding Event (to provide a large generator to power their hall in future emergencies) redirected to help fix the ceiling!

Thanks to the assistance from Gina, Julie and Nardy we were able to donate $1,500 to the Crystal Creek Community for their ongoing repair effort.

• Conducted our monthly meat tray raffles at Mystic

Sands Sports and Wellness.

• Did a garden tidy with a large load of palm fronds

and garden waste to assist a recent widow in her time of need.

• Supported the RNC Volunteers Expo Afternoon on

the village green • Honoured our wonderful Lions mothers and lady

members with our inaugural Lions Mother’s Day Community Lunch, where our ladies sat down to a lovely lunch served by our male Lions. Apparently there were some surprise attendees who made the day extra special for their mums, and assisted, no doubt by a bubbly or two! A great afternoon where we also announced the winner of our Mother’s Day Raffle. Thank you to those business’ who supported us and those who bought a ticket – enabling us to donate $650 to our Lions PNG Birthing Mothers Project. Congratulations to our raffle winner – Jan Holliday!

Rollingstone and District Men’s Shed Inc. Welcome to this month’s edition of the Rolly Rag. Don’t have too much to report this month, it’s been a bit on the quiet side for the shed.

Raffles Raffle held last Friday night at Mystic Sands Sports and Wellness, 15th May. Wasn’t a bad night, with a chicken tray, pork tray and beef tray raffled to mix it up a bit – a successful night in so far as selling tickets went. Enough members turned up to go round and sell the tickets, great to see.

The happy winners were our Chris Burt, Irene Leary, who were standing side by side (separate raffles though), and one of the Pace crew who come down in numbers and support the raffles and Mystic Sands Sports and Wellness. Chris and Irene, I’m still waiting for the phone call to attend the BBQ!!

Thanks everyone for your support.

Thanks to Steve, who has arranged a different community group to do the raffles each week. Also, to the Gurds, ordering the trays, picking them up, advertising the raffles on Facebook, and Rhonda doing the lions share of selling the tickets.

Community Activity Bunnings Sausage Sizzle was intended to be held 9th May, however when our team rolled up, another group was already setting up – appeared the site had been double booked.

However Bunnings subsequently offered the Men’s Shed Sunday 31st May, which we have accepted, and have a team organised to do that one. All the shopping has been done!

Shed Construction: Grants are now just starting to become available, so we will be busy seeking grants and submitting applications. Fingers crossed.

Membership No new members this month, but if anyone is interested in joining the Men’s Shed and require any further information, please do not hesitate to ring us on our shed phone 0455 405 208, or email us on rollymensshed@outlook.com Initial membership is $60, with subsequent memberships being $40pa.

We have a weekly catch up for a chat, coffee, brekky if you wish, at Mystic Sands Sports and Wellness Friday mornings at 9am, just to meet and socialise, talk about anything coming up, anything at all.

We are also looking at some additional social activities, like say a monthly breakfast or lunch at a venue elsewhere, to mix things up, and potentially trips away periodically.

We will advise further on when we have more info.

We had a number of members away with another event on for the weekend, but still managed to have sufficient members for the BBQ, but wasn’t to be.

Battle of the Coral Sea On Sunday, the 3rd of May, the Rollingstone Neighbourhood Centre kindly provided the community bus for our annual trip to Cardwell for the 84th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea Commemoration.

This year, not only did we have a full bus, but also two cars following.

This commemorative service honours the Allied Forces, both Australian and the United States, who for the first time halted the Japanese advance in May 1942, six months after the surprise attack at Pearl Harbor.

We joined community groups, veterans and current service members in the march and stood with them to pay tribute to the eight ships and the 600 lives that were lost in this important air and sea battle that prevented the Japanese invasion of Port Moresby and protected Australia from isolation and the planned mass invasion.

Community Expo and Open Day We held our first ever Community Expo & Open Day on Friday, May 15 at the Rollingstone Neighbourhood Centre.

The event was an amazing day filled with a fantastic atmosphere and wonderful community support.

We were honoured to have Mayor Nick Dametto, and local Member Paul Jacob attend the day.

With more than 15 stallholders from local not-for-profit organisations and community groups, there was something for everyone — from fishing, emergency planning and wildlife rescue to line dancing and sewing and craft groups.

Moon the lamb was a very popular visitor on the day, along with a recently rescued Tawny Frogmouth.

The newly refurbished op shop was officially opened by the Mayor, along with the unveiling of its brand-new name, “Balgal Boutique”, chosen by our amazing Balgal Boutique volunteers through our recent community competition.

Wildlife Carers Been an interesting month here at Balgal Beach.

Have had quite a few kangaroos been hit and killed on our roads or they have been damaged that badly they have to be euthanised. I can understand not being able to avoid them but it is disgusting the way they are left on the road and some with babies in pouches that are run over by other vehicles.

This is extremely upsetting to those walkers who come across them and ring us. No one can be that busy that they can’t stop and check or at least ring the wildlife phone to report it. We are not allowed to put up graphic photos to show the world the end results, too distressing but we can run them over, shoot them, bludgeon to death and that's ok so long as we don't have reminders as in photographs.

I have "roo shoos" on my car, always have, and today I once again saw how they work. I was on Bruce Highway when I glimpsed a male adult wallaby on the road side, his head came up, he looked my way and turned tail and raced back into the scrub. Then on Acheron Drive the same thing happened with a smaller one but I was not doing 100 km, I was sitting on the speed limit and these shoos worked again.

Unreal, so for a few dollars I have prevented damage to my car and I hear this from other drivers also, just a thought. Due to the fact a majority of drivers out here do not obey the speed limit, these could be very handy, like the guy who passed me on BBR way over 80km or those Rollingstone Rag, June 2026

on Acheron, Madeleine, Armidale, Ocean Parade and I could go on and on, just talk to residents out here, they will tell you.

Went along to the Expo out here last week. There were quite a few not for profit groups there including Wrapt Wildlife whose base is out here.

We all put ourselves out for several hours driving to the venue, erecting marquees and preparing for the people.

Everyone there took time out of their day to explain to the public what their group was about, giving out advice and hand outs.

The response from the public was tepid, with us seeing the same faces who come to these events. Once again we found it very disappointing, okay the time of the event was maybe not conducive to a lot of people but they had enough notice to make plans. Was there perhaps not enough notices sent out advertising the event?

Over the years we have found that the locals as a whole don't fraternise these events and we don't know how to encourage the community spirit. All the stalls there were to help people when needed, feels very one-sided. Our community is wide spread and living in our piece of paradise one would think everyone would be in to encourage furthering our community.

Rollingstone RSL Hello to our members and the Rollingstone district community. The past couple of months have been very busy as we prepared for our ANZAC Day commemorative service and other activities.

In the lead-up to ANZAC Day, we delivered two presentations. The first was held at the Bluewater Scout Den for the Rollingstone Leos, and the second took place at Rollingstone State School, followed by a BBQ lunch. Both presentations were well received by the children, parents, and staff.

A big thank you to 9 Tpt 3 CSSB for providing the catafalque party, flag orderlies, guest speaker, troops, and equipment for our ANZAC Day commemorations.

We also thank Mr Mark Smith for his organisation and professionalism, and Mr Ian Dow and his team for setting up marquees, tables, and chairs.

Fisherman’s Landing and its staff did a wonderful job catering the Gunfire Breakfast and supporting the influx of visitors, while Crystal Creek Community Centre and its staff generously hosted lunch and Two-Up.

Thank you also to the Lions for the early morning delivery of rum, coffee, tea, milk, and water. The commemorative service was outstanding, and we sincerely thank everyone involved and all who attended.

On another note, League member Jared spent ANZAC Day visiting the war graves in Papua New Guinea after completing the Kokoda Track. Well done, Jared, on your enthusiasm and commitment.

This year will be a busy one as we continue delivering care, commemoration, and camaraderie to our veterans, families, and community. Fundraising remains vital to ensure our sub-branch can continue providing these services. We are currently running a range of fundraising activities, with regular venues to be confirmed soon. Toomulla Beach News The beautiful weather we are currently having (when it is not blowing a gale) shows us all why we wish to live in North Queensland. In Toomulla we are especially blessed by having a caring community and active organisations which are improving the community.

May saw a slightly smaller Toomulla Coastcare volunteers group tackling weeds along Saltwater Drive.

There has been debate as to who has responsibility for these footpath areas and I believe the following is the case. “In Queensland, responsibility for footpaths is shared.

Local Councils manage the physical structure, repairs, and sweeping/cleaning of hazards. Residents/property owners are typically required to maintain the grassy verge (nature strip) and keep the adjacent footpath clear of weeds, overhanging foliage, and everyday domestic rubbish.”

There are some property owners who back onto Saltwater Drive who don’t keep this nature strip clean so a big thank you to Toomulla Coastcare for taking on this responsibility and taking six trailer loads of weeds and rubbish to the tip.

The street looks a whole lot better.

The recent set of lucky numbers finished in May. These are always popular and it is good to see a variety of winners taking home the weekly $50 prize. Lucky numbers will return again in August. In the meantime, raffle tickets for Christmas in July are available. There are some really great prizes, thanks to the work of Brett Pates and Peggy Campbell.

The community association is again holding the annual Christmas in July event on the 4th July in the community shed, Toomulla Park. This is a very popular event and we look forward to seeing everyone there. It is a great way to catch up with neighbours and friends – plus meet new people and make friends.

There are actually two parties. The one for the kids starts at 4 pm with games, a visit from Santa, and party food.

The adults party starts at 6 pm. You need to bring your own cold drinks but hot drinks will be provided. There will be a three-course dinner, lucky door prizes, and plenty of fun and activities. Rollingstone State School School camp is an important part of school life, giving students the chance to build independence, confidence and friendships outside the classroom and school structure.

From a student’s perspective, camps are often a highlight with two nights and three days away with friends, latenight giggles and shenanigans, extreme outdoor adventures and a chance to have loads of fun. Normally food is a highlight as well.

From a teacher’s perspective, school camp is something we relish each year. It certainly involves stress, lots of stress, lack of adequate sleep, and definitely tiredness as the adult team unite to combat the never-ending energy of the younger generation.

You can haven them go flat out all day, but you know that lights out is never actually lights out! But it’s not all bad.

To watch students grow in confidence, work together and achieve their goals is priceless. Those occasional shenanigans often bring a smile to your face, or a memory from your time on camp all those year ago. Were we really like that?

Rollingstone State School would like to sincerely thank our wonderful P&C and the Lions Club for their generous donations towards our recent two-night camp at Paluma Environmental Education Centre. Their support helped reduce costs for families and ensured all students had the opportunity to attend and enjoy the experience.

A special thank you also goes to the fantastic Paluma staff, awesome Rollingstone staff and our wonderful volunteers who gave up their time to support camp.

456 Crazy Camp The 456 School camp was crazy!! Lots of laughter could be heard, bravery could be seen, and lastly positive behaviour was out there. For our 2026 school camp, we drove up the hills, and through the trees to go to Paluma!

The sight from the bus was crazy, and terrifying to see how high up we were, but it was very cool to see all the water flowing down a small water fall under the little old bridge.

Once we arrived, we had a lovely camp teacher named Alison, who showed us so many fun activities, and taught us Dadirri, which means to stop and listen; because when you do, you may find something new. The camp principal, Dan, took us trekking into the rainforest to sit alone in a ‘magic spot’ where we could stop, listen and feel all the nature around us.

My favourite activity was definitely the rchery tag. Archery tag is an awesome game of tag, but instead of using your hands to tag everyone, you use bow and arrows! At first it’s tricky, but a few minutes later you’re a pro. Mr Z, and Chappy were terrific at it, but no one can beat Queen Miss U. We would usually do orange team vs yellow team, but for our last three rounds we did adults vs students. It was so much fun, although us students always lost against four arrow happy adults.

Next, was the high ropes centre. High ropes are basically an obstacle course, but very high in the air! As soon as you get up to the first platform and look down, you would be terrified. At the high ropes centre there were 5 courses you could choose from, the grounds obstacle course, the rock climbing wall, ( which you could do yourself) the high ropes, the big swing, and lastly the leap of faith. The leap of faith is a very scary height activity were you climb up a very high log wall, and then jump off in the air to try hit a red ball above you. It takes your breath away and then once you start to fall you feel like a bird flying in the sky.

Luckily, all high activities, all have a harness, safety gear, and an adult always supervising you.

Now let’s talk rainforest. The rainforest was breathtaking.

The different shades of green lit up my eyes within seconds. The sweet hummingbirds would cheep softly, and the green leaves would dance in the breeze. The track was hard, but the view at the top was worth it. I could see the blue ocean and Palm Island. Absolutely stunning! habitants around us. Every 10 or so minutes, we would stop, sit in silence, admiring the sounds, smells and sights of the gorgeous, green, rainforest and it

Mutarnee State School Mutarnee State School Takes Over with Science, Sport and Smiles!

Rollingstone Rag – School News Mutarnee State School turned up the energy levels recently with a day packed full of movement, curiosity and plenty of laughs as we welcomed friends from Toobanna State School to join in the fun!

The day kicked off with exciting PE games where students put their teamwork, speed and problemsolving skills to the test. There was cheering, encouragement and some very competitive game faces appearing throughout the morning!

Then it was time to swap sweat for science as students became mini scientists for two hands-on experiments.

First up — Elephant’s Toothpaste! Students watched in amazement as colourful foamy explosions erupted from containers, creating giant streams of bubbling “toothpaste” for an elephant (or maybe a very, very messy one!). There were plenty of “WOW!” moments and lots of questions about the science behind the reaction.

Next came the challenge everyone had been waiting for… How many rubber bands does it take to explode a watermelon? Students made predictions, counted carefully and watched as tension slowly built (literally!). With every rubber band added, excitement grew until… POP! Safe to say the reactions from students may have been louder than the watermelon itself!

The day was filled with discovery, movement, teamwork and memories made alongside our friends from Toobanna. Learning looked a little different — and a lot more exciting!

A huge thank you to everyone involved in creating such a fun-filled experience for our students.

Hi, I would like to report this month that the following works are being carried out in Rollingstone and Balgal Beach.

The Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) will be undertaking reconstruction monitoring assessments from 18–22 May 2026. As part of this phase, 22 properties across Balgal Beach, Bluewater Park and Toolakea will be visited.

These assessments build on the earlier rapid damage assessments conducted by the Queensland Fire Department and are a standard component of QRA’s recovery monitoring process.

Officers will attend selected residential and commercial properties to gather information on: • Extent of damage and current recovery progress • Availability of essential services (e.g. water and electricity) • Structural impacts • Insurance matters • Residents’ access to financial assistance.

I would also like to inform my residents of the scope of works for the Telstra Tower at Pace Park.—see pg 22-23

Building a Stronger, Safer and More Secure Future for North Queensland Across North Queensland, and especially in communities like Hinchinbrook and Townsville, the priorities are clear— strong infrastructure, a resilient economy, community safety, and support for the issues that impact families every day.

Improving our road network remains central to delivering on that vision. From the Bruce Highway through to key local connections, better roads mean safer journeys, reduced congestion, and stronger freight links that keep our region moving. Residents in Townsville’s northern suburbs have made it clear that congestion and a lack of infrastructure over the past decade cannot continue, and they deserve real action.

That’s why it was important to welcome the Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Brent Mickelberg, to Townsville to reaffirm a shared commitment to getting on with the job. Progress is underway through the Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Upgrades, alongside advancing local priorities such as the Svensson Road connection and the Woolcock Street–North Shore Boulevard planning study. While a decade of inaction won’t be fixed overnight, these are the practical steps needed to start delivering real improvements.

Strong infrastructure also underpins a strong regional economy. Engagements with the Livestock Transporters Association and a visit to the Port of Townsville reinforced just how vital efficient road and freight networks are to North Queensland’s industries. From agriculture to exports, our region depends on reliable connections to remain competitive and continue growing.

At the same time, community safety remains a fundamental priority. It was a privilege to attend the blessing and launch of the new POLAIR capability here in North Queensland. This is a significant investment that will strengthen frontline policing across our region. With two new state-of-the-art helicopters now supporting operations, POLAIR provides critical aerial assistance, from tracking offenders to responding to major incidents.

This capability ensures our police have the tools they need to do their job effectively and to keep our communities safe.

At a broader level, securing Queensland’s future also means ensuring we are not left vulnerable to global pressures, particularly when it comes to energy. The Crisafulli LNP Government’s recently announced Queensland Fuel Security Plan outlines a clear vision to restore our ability to drill, refine and store fuel locally. By unlocking domestic reserves, expanding refining capacity, and boosting storage, the plan aims to reduce reliance on imports while protecting Queenslanders from supply disruptions and sudden price spikes.

Importantly, the plan also focuses on easing cost-of-living pressures. Removing state taxes on fuel price rises will deliver direct savings at the bowser, while improved transparency, through a proposed national fuel supply dashboard, will help governments better anticipate and respond to future challenges.

But while infrastructure, safety and economic resilience are critical, so too is supporting the health and wellbeing of our communities. Cancer continues to touch far too many families across Hinchinbrook and throughout Queensland.

Every 20 minutes, another Queenslander receives a diagnosis, a sobering reminder of the importance of research, support services, and community awareness.

Events like Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, held recently at Queensland Parliament, highlight the power of community in supporting those impacted by cancer.

Backing the work of Cancer Council Queensland ensures that individuals and families facing this challenge are not alone. Something as simple as hosting a morning tea can make a real difference.

Together, these priorities - better roads, stronger community safety, a more secure energy future, and genuine support for Queenslanders’ wellbeing - reflect a clear focus on delivering for North Queensland. It’s about addressing the challenges of today while building a more resilient, secure, and connected future for our region.

Balgal Beach Pharmacy Never Too Young #N2Y June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, a time to encourage people to learn the signs of bowel cancer and act early. Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers, but when found early, it can often be successfully treated.

Many people may not notice symptoms at first, which is why awareness and regular screening are so important. Common symptoms can include changes in bowel habits, • blood in the stool, • thin stool, • ongoing stomach pain, • unexplained weight loss, tiredness, or feeling that the bowel has not emptied properly.

While these symptoms do not always mean cancer, they should always be checked by a doctor if they continue.

Risk factors are • a diet low in fibre, • high red meat consumption, especially processed meats • being overweight • alcohol and smoking.

• family history of bowel cancer including history of polyps, and Inflammatory bowel disease People over the age of 50 are encouraged to take part in regular bowel cancer screening. Screening tests can detect early signs of cancer before symptoms appear.

In Australia, eligible adults aged 50 to 74 can complete a free home screening test through the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. The test is simple, private, and can help save lives through early detection.

Lifestyle choices can also reduce the risk of bowel cancer. Eating a healthy balanced diet, staying active, limiting alcohol, avoiding smoking, and maintaining a healthy weight all play an important role in bowel health.

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity to start conversations, encourage loved ones to complete screening tests, and remind everyone that early detection matters. A simple test could make all the difference.

RNC Community Bus Passenger Guidelines Our community bus is one of the most important services we offer in Rollingstone. It keeps people connected, helps households manage the rising cost of living, and makes it easier for locals to get to appointments, shopping, and community events. It’s been fantastic to see the service so well used — every full bus is a sign of a strong, connected community.

To keep the bus safe, comfortable, and accessible for everyone, we ask all passengers to follow a few simple guidelines: • Keep aisles clear — Bags, parcels, walkers and personal items must not block the walkway at any time.

• Limit groceries and parcels — Space is shared, so please only bring what can fit safely under your seat or in the designated storage areas.

• Secure your items — Loose bags can shift during travel. Please make sure everything is tucked away before the bus departs.

• Be mindful of others — Seats are for passengers first.

Larger items may need to be left at home or transported another way.

• Let us know if you have a walker or mobility aid – we may need to adjust passenger numbers accordingly.
