Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE HOLE ON THE COURSE AND WHY?
A: Hard to pick, but I’d probably say Hole 18 It has the complete package you want in a golf hole - strategy, a fair test, and aesthetics. From the tee you have one of the better views on the golf course, and from the tee you’re strategically trying to hit the left
side of the fairway to give yourself a better angle to the green, bringing the fairway bunker and left barranca in to play. As you approach the green you see the clubhouse in the background and feel the natural amphitheater of the green, almost sensing that a crowd is watching. Depending on where the hole location is, you might have 23 club variance from a back pin to a front pin, and multiple ways you can get a shot close using the friendly contours that McClay Kidd implemented. Hole 18 is a fabulous culmination to our golf course.
Q: WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST SO FAR ABOUT RHCC?
A: There’s a genuine family atmosphere here, where members and staff alike take pride in creating a welcoming environment for everyone You can feel how connected people are and that makes RHCC a very special place.
Q: WHICH RHCC EVENT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO?
A: I’m especially looking forward to the many events that bring the membership together and showcase the incredible atmosphere here at RHCC Of course, we’re excited to host the 3-Day Split Rail Member-Guest, one of the signature events of the year, where we go all out to create an unforgettable experience for both members and their guests It’s always exciting to see the energy, camaraderie, and competition that week brings to the club I’m also looking forward to many of our other popular events throughout the summer, especially the Couples Twilight Events where 120 members enjoy golf in large groups, on-course food stations, and evenings filled with great dinners, music, and socializing around the club.

Q: WHAT’S ONE FUN FACT MEMBERS MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?
A: One fun fact members may not know about me is just how much of my life has revolved around golf and the experiences that come with it I’ve been fortunate to travel on golf trips with members to eight different countries, and I’ve made 14 trips to Bandon Dunes over the years My wife and I even played five rounds of golf on our honeymoon, which probably tells you all you need to know about us Some of my favorite golf memories are my wife making a hole-in-one while pregnant with our first daughter, and each of us having a holein-one at Pacific Dunes (Junko on Hole 11, myself on Hole 14)
Q: WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE MEMBERSHIP AS WE MOVE INTO THE SUMMER SEASON?
A: As we move into the summer season, I’d encourage members to take advantage of one of the best times to enjoy our golf course, the late afternoon hours The long summer days create an incredible opportunity to get out for a few holes or a relaxing evening round when the course is quieter and more peaceful The lower sun and long shadows really highlight the beautiful contours and character of the golf course in a way that feels completely different from earlier in the day There’s something special about being out on the course in the evening during summer, and I hope everyone gets the chance to experience it

For 51 years, Gabino Robles has been a dedicated and familiar face on the grounds crew at Rolling Hills Country Club, helping maintain the beautiful course and grounds that members enjoy every day. His commitment and hard work have made a lasting impact on the club and everyone around him. Through decades of early mornings and countless hours spent caring for the course, Gabino has become an important part of the club’s history and culture. His loyalty and dedication over more than five decades are a true testament to his character and the invaluable role he plays at Rolling Hills Country Club.

ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

NICOLA SAFFREY DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES

an employee at Rolling Hills Country ecades serving members and guests with unmatched dedication, kindness, and warmth. Abel had a way of making everyone feel welcome; creating memories, building relationships, and leaving an imprint on generations of golfers.
At the center of his legendary status was his signature creation: “Abel’s Apples.” This beloved snack became an iconic staple; crisp, refreshing, and always prepared with care, Abel’s Apples were both a treat and a tradition. Golfers eagerly looked forward to seeing Abel at the Halfway House, knowing their round wasn’t complete without stopping for one of his famous apples. It became a symbol of comfort, consistency, and the special touch Abel brought to every day.
The Halfway House itself was once simply a stop along the course, but Abel transformed it into something much greater. Following his passing, it was only fitting that this cherished location would be renamed “Abel’s” in his honor.
Today, Abel’s name lives on not only in the clubhouse history, but in the hearts of every member and guest who had the privilege of knowing him. “Abel’s” stands as a lasting tribute to a man whose legacy was built on simple acts of kindness, hard work, and a passion for serving others.
For those who stop by, it’s not just a Halfway House it’s a reminder of the man who made Rolling Hills feel like home. Abel’s story is one of loyalty, heart, and enduring impact. His memory continues to inspire, and his legacy remains a treasured part of Rolling Hills Country Club.
May was jam-packed full of fun at RHCC! Our ladies learned how to design the perfect basket bouquets at the Ladies Design & Unwind: Floral Arranging–and just in time for Mother’s Day! We celebrated all of our RHCC moms in style at our Tiffany’s-themed brunch, where all of our families indulged in an afternoon filled with dazzling food, stunning decorations, and special gifts for mom.
There was no shortage of good times for the whole family this month! Our Family Night: Revenge of the Sixth brought galactic levels of Star Wars fun. Kids Club taught our kids to bake a variety of sweet treats during their “Sugar-to-Table” series, from raspberry tiramisu to s’mores brownies. Finally, we all kicked off the summer season together during our Memorial Day BBQ Celebration, where our families got to spend some quality time at the pool–and take a spin on the mechanical bull!
The competition on the Golf Course was stiff this month, with the men showing out during our Stag Day & Men’s Match Play Day. Our ladies got glam for our Dollywood-themed Ladies 2-Day Member-Guest: Ladies on the Links, and each golfer put on a performance that would make Dolly Parton proud. We rounded out May with our Couples Twilight, where after 9 holes our golfers got to enjoy a delightful wine dinner.
Thank you for spending your May with us – check out all of the fun!

Congratulations to Sean Shannon on winning the 2026 Men’s President’s Cup. This marks his first President’s Cup victory. A special congratulations to our runner-up Andrew Wolstan for reaching his first finals appearance.
Sean Shannon’s path to the 2026 title was nothing short of dominant, highlighted by consistent play and decisive victories of 2&1, 3&2, 2 up, 2 up, and 6&5.
The championship match didn’t start smoothly. On the opening hole, Sean’s drive found the right rough, and his attempt to advance his second shot landed in the fairway bunkers on the right side. Meanwhile, Andrew Wolstan split the fairway off the tee and stuck his approach on the green, setting up a makeable birdie look. Despite a strong recovery effort, Sean dropped the first hole.
From there, it was all Shannon.

He bounced back immediately with a birdie on the second to square the match. After halving the third with pars, Sean shifted into another gear winning holes 4, 6, 7, and 9 to build a 4 up lead heading into the back nine.
With momentum firmly on his side, Sean never let up, closing out the match with a 6&5 victory over Wolstan to claim the 2026 title.

Congratulations to our champions: Overall Net Champions Ryan Clady & Doug Austin (-7), after a scorecard playoff. The Triple Play format, beautiful weather, and vibrant membership energy made for an exciting day on the course, while the Southern-style BBQ and live jazz created the perfect atmosphere to celebrate afterward.
Tip of the hat to Monica Masuda (Guest), Stefani Goldenberg, Gina Shoemaker, and April Mascola (Guest, not pictured) for riding away with the Ladies Member-Guest Overall (Net) Championship, turning in a standout performance. The ladies enjoyed a fantastic evening featuring a special dinner, lively line dancing, and custom cowgirl hats that brought the perfect western flair to an already unforgettable day on the course.

Congratulations to our Couples Twilight winners on a fantastic evening of golf during our “Wines Around the World” event! Cheers to Mike & Monica Maynez and Mike & Sophia Mackiewicz for capturing the front 9 title, and to Antonio & Angela Fontana, Brett & Deborah Keshtkar, and David & Melody Howell for capturing the back 9. Thank you to all who joined us for a memorable night of great golf, wonderful company, and a toast to more nights like these!
The USC Women’s Golf team delivered a historic season in 2026, proudly representing both the University of Southern California and their home club, Rolling Hills Country Club, on the national stage. The Trojans advanced all the way to the NCAA Championship Match at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, ultimately finishing as national runners-up after an impressive week of match play. USC defeated Duke and Arkansas in thrilling 3-2 victories to earn a spot in the National Championship against top-ranked Stanford, showcasing the depth, resilience, and competitive spirit that defined their remarkable season.
Kylie Chong clinched the decisive point against Duke in the quarterfinals, while Elise Lee secured the semifinal victory over Arkansas to send the Trojans into the National Championship match. Jasmine Koo, Catherine Park, Bailey Shoemaker, and the rest of the USC lineup consistently battled against the nation’s best, demonstrating poise under pressure and tremendous teamwork throughout the postseason.
Although USC fell just short in the final, the season will go down as one of the finest in program history. The Trojans captured eight tournament victories, including seven consecutive wins entering the NCAA Championships, along with USC’s first-ever Big Ten Championship and a national-leading 16th regional title. The team also claimed the inaugural GameAbove Invitational hosted at Rolling Hills Country Club, making the season especially meaningful for our membership.

"This is still one of the best seasons in the history of USC women's golf," Silverstein said. "We won seven tournaments in a row heading into this week and we were runners-up this week. They have a lot to be proud of. This would've been the cherry on top and would've probably put us in a different category of all-time teams, but unfortunately, it didn't fall our way today."
We are incredibly proud to have members of the USC Women’s Golf team representing Rolling Hills Country Club at the highest level of collegiate golf. Their dedication, sportsmanship, and success continue to inspire our membership and showcase the exceptional talent connected to our club. Congratulations to the entire USC Women’s Golf program on an unforgettable season and an outstanding national runner-up finish.

As Course Culture Month comes to a close, I want to extend a sincere thank you to all of our members and guests for embracing the spirit of care and consideration on the golf course. The small actions repairing ball marks, sanding divots, raking bunkers, following cart guidelines, and showing courtesy to fellow golfers may seem minor on their own, but together they make a tremendous impact on the quality of our course and the experience we all enjoy. Your partnership and commitment help us maintain the exceptional conditions that make our club special. On behalf of the entire groundscrew team, thank you for doing your part and for taking pride in our golf course. The little things truly do make a big difference, and we appreciate your continued support in preserving our course for everyone to enjoy.
