ARBOR DAY

Our group of volunteers was small, but mighty! Between passionate staff, dedicated councilmembers, a few eager children, and of course, our tractor for the holes, we were able to plant 21 trees along the north end of Caterpillar Park during our Arbor Day Tree Planting event.

The group planted three different species of Oaks, two of which are native: Quercus agrifolia (Coast Live Oak), Quercus lobata (Valley Oak), as well as Quercus shumardii (Shumard Red Oak).

The group also planted two Parrotia persica (Vanessa Ironwood) trees

In the years to come the goal is to establish some additional shade in the park turf areas as well as create a wildlife habitat suitable for various bird and beneficial pollinator species.

We hope you’ll join us next year for this fun family-friendly event!

Partial System Closure

The construction of the new SMART (Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit) station in northern Petaluma requires a partial system closure on March 23 and 24 and April 13 and 14.

Throughout these weekends, the SMART rail line will be closed from the Sonoma County Airport station to the Cotati station. Regular weekend service will be maintained between the Petaluma Downtown station and the Larkspur station.

Executing construction on an active rail line is a multifaceted undertaking. Given to the location of the construction closure, implementing a bus bridge would have meant an unreasonably lengthy detour for riders. Following a thorough assessment, SMART determined temporarily closing a portion of the system was the most practical solution.

For assistance with trip planning, please do not hesitate to reach out to SMART Customer Service at (707) 794-3330 or customerservice@sonomamarintrain.org. Additionally, transit alternative maps are available online. Dates of the partial system closures are subject to change based on weather conditions affecting construction
