BAGLEY’S BLOG

Ari Neuenkirk and Grace Seder, Community Services Program Coordinators for the City of Rohnert Park, recently celebrated their one-year work anniversaries! Both are dedicated to creating inclusive, engaging experiences for residents. We asked each of them some questions to help you get to know them better and here is what they had to say:

Ari Neuenkirk, Community Services Program Coordinator

1. Tell us a little about your background

I’ve always had a passion for serving my community. I grew up on a military base and was constantly seeking opportunities to get involved. I graduated from Sonoma State University with a Bachelor’s in Communications and later earned a Master’s in Macro Social Work from USC. Throughout my professional career I’ve worked in graphic design, marketing, recruitment, program development, and event planning. Outside of work, I love reading, dancing, hiking, crocheting, writing music and all things holistic wellness related!

2. What is your role in the Department?

Within my role as Community Services Program Coordinator, I oversee all the recreational contract instructors as well as provide logistical support for our community-wide events. I also work alongside the Community Services team to plan, promote, and execute numerous special events for the Rohnert Park community.

3. What has been the most rewarding part of your position over the last year?

I love watching events and programs come to life! Special events often take months of careful planning and coordination, so seeing all that effort payoff is extremely rewarding. Also, providing affordable, fun-filled opportunities for community members to connect and enjoy themselves fills me with pride!

4. And a fun question to end with — what is your favorite motivational quote or saying?

My favorite motivational quote is, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” Recreation offers the community many opportunities to grow and challenge themselves not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Our programs and events give people a chance to expand the edges of their comfort zone and truly live life to the fullest capacity.

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY SERVICES

1. Tell us a little about your background.

My background is primarily in summer camps. I started working at youth camps during my college years and quickly fell in love with the job. I worked my way up at a camp in Sebastopol, eventually becoming the program manager for a few years before stepping away to travel internationally for a year. I’ve also gained experience in the service industry at local restaurants, as well as working with students with disabilities.

2. What is your role in the Department?

I’m a program coordinator, and I have the privilege of planning and overseeing programs such as Teen Camp, Camp Burton, and Preschool Camp, with hopes to develop more in-house programs in the future. I also help manage our facility and picnic rentals. Additionally, I contribute to our community events. One thing I love about our department is how we continually refine and add programs to better serve the community, so my role evolves as our offerings expand.

3. What has been the most rewarding part of your position over the last year?

The most rewarding part of my job has been hiring, training, and seeing our part-time staff excel in their positions. Our summer camp staff were incredibly dedicated to creating a positive experience for the campers. When campers don’t want to leave at the end of the day, it’s clear that our programs made a special and meaningful impact.

4. And a fun question to end with — what is your favorite motivational quote or saying?

One of my favorite quotes is by Mr. Rogers: “Love and success, always in that order. It’s that simple and that difficult.” It reminds me to prioritize care for others before the pursuit of success. In my job, when we care for the community—whether in our programs,

or events— we are succeeding.
