Rohan and the history of Alpinism.
Over forty years ago Rohan were at the very heart of a fundamental change in the way people were climbing the world’s highest mountains.
Alpinism was being reborn. And the men and women that were climbing in this new style were shunning the siege tactics of the past. They needed to travel light and take minimum equipment. This in turn meant they demanded much more from their clothing and kit. Resisting siege tactic style expeditions, they preferred to carry their own gear from home, across the globe to base camp and finally to the mountain tops.
The younger members of this group had a big influence on early Rohan design disciplines and these principles are still deeply embedded in Rohan’s products today.
It’s not surprising that phrases such as ‘function dictates form’ and ‘fit for purpose’ became real and unimpeachable in all Rohan thinking around this time. Alpinists were hard task masters. Garment failure was not an option.
Rohan learnt their trade in a hard school. And in 1978, Rohan was worn on what many consider as the expedition that saw Alpinism come of age. The first ascent of Everest without oxygen by Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler.

ELEMENTAL PROTECTION
Rain
All clothing with this symbol is guaranteed to be 100% waterproof And highly breathable membrane technology means you won’t get wet from the inside either.
Wind
Cutting down windchill can make a big difference to your comfort and safety. We offer two ratings: Windproof and Highly Wind Resistant.
Heat
Keeping comfortable in the heat can be harder than keeping warm in the cold. We choose the right fabric weights, employ AirflowTM weaves and use Dynamic Moisture ControlTM technology.
Cold
All materials for cold weather, that carry the warmth icon, are rated Base, Mid, High or Extreme allowing you to select what you need with accuracy.
Sun
All Rohan fabrics for hot weather, that carry the sun icon, are tested for their Ultraviolet Protection Factor and rated either 20+ or 40+

Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. The pack size is tested and listed.

InterchangeTM
For maximum performance, zip one of our InterchangeTM mid-layers into a matching shell. It makes a lined winter jacket without excess layers

By stripping out unnecessary fabric our clothing is lighter and less bulky as well as quicker drying and more breathable.

OUR TECHNOLOGIES
BarricadeTM
BarricadeTM is different to conventional waterproof fabrics, it is dynamic and responds to your body temperature and the humidity of the surrounding environment. The steamier it gets inside, the better the membrane works and the more vapour escapes.
InsuloftTM
The most practical and thermally efficient insulator available. Tough, lightweight, packable, easy to wash and fast drying.
Anti Odour SilverTM
An advanced silver technology inhibits the growth of bacteria and greatly reduces odour. It is permanent, and will not wash out or wear out.
Dynamic Moisture ControlTM
Keeps you cool and reduces heat stress in hot or humid climates. In colder, wetter conditions it moves water vapour away from the skin.
AirflowTM
Staying cool in the heat is actually more challenging than keeping warm in the cold. The most effective fabric technology is to use open weave structures that disperse heat through convective cooling.
800+ Goose down
650+
We use 2 levels of down fill in our garments. Our jackets for the coldest environments use 800+ fill power goose down. We use the European measurement system; if we used the North American system, we would expect a rating of at least 850. For our lighter weight insulation jackets we use 650+ fill power goose down.
Hydrophobic Down
Hydrophobic down uses nano technology to encourage water to bond to itself rather than the down. It dries 60% faster and retains far more loft than untreated down.
Durable Water RepellencyTM
This water resistant finish will withstand at least twenty washes and at this point, its performance will still remain at 80% efficiency.
Coolant
TM
Embedding microscopic mica crystals into the knit of the fabric has an active, cooling effect on the body.
Heat Yarn
A heat generating performance fabric that reacts with body moisture to generate heat. It also offers wicking, temperature regulation and anti bacterial properties keeping you fresher for longer.

Shipments from the UK to the US are subject to Federal import regulations which can incur duties and taxes levied as the parcels enter the country. But you don’t need to worry about that. Our systems are designed to settle this duty on your behalf – so the price you see is the price you pay.

Our Guarantee
Rohan products are designed and manufactured to be as functional, comfortable and durable as we know how. If for any reason they don’t live up to your expectations, we will be amazed, disappointed and keen to know why. We will then offer you a replacement, a refund or a repair. Damage from wear and tear will be repaired for a reasonable charge. We absolutely do our best to delight you with our service. If we haven’t, please let us know. It’s the only way we’ll get better.
Shipping
Your order will be despatched direct from our warehouse in the UK. Most parcels will be delivered within 10 business days. We charge a flat rate of $25 for shipping. The shipping charge is non-refundable.
*To qualify for free shipping you need to have spent over $75 after any discounts have been applied.
Returns
If you are not entirely happy with your order, simply return it to us in the condition you received it within 30 days and we’ll happily exchange or refund you in full. Please call 800 334 3750 or email us@rohandesigns.com to arrange for a free returns label to be sent to you. We aim to process your refund within 14 days from receipt into our warehouse.
