Supporting your journey for 50 years The beginning, like most beginnings, was simple. It started on a kitchen table in a small cottage in Skipton, North Yorkshire. Paul and Sarah Howcroft were on a mission: to change how people thought about outdoor clothing. And just like that, Rohan was born.

While other outdoor brands were focusing on specific garments, the team took a step back and really got to grips with fabric technology. They were the first to offer soft shell and the first to create compact travel trousers.

And in a first to beat all firsts, the Windlord Gwaihir Jacket was used on the first ascent of Everest without oxygen. This uncompromising pursuit of excellence snowballed and in the following years innovation followed more innovation. From Bags with Airlight, to UV protective fabric, and insect repellent clothing, to Barricade Standard waterproofing. We were always looking for better then – and we’re still looking for better now. We’ve stayed true to our spirit. It’s the same spirit that our customers embody: single-minded, adventureloving and an unwillingness to settle for business as usual. So as we look to the next half a century, we do so with the same wonder, excitement and sense of challenge that Paul and Sarah felt some 50 years ago.

Let’s get technical.

2-Way Stretch is our classic, tried and tested fabric technology. As the name suggests, it stretches between 2 points, along the width or length, depending on the design. Made with elastane, this durable, intuitive material can be used to create a full range of outdoor wear, such as trousers and jackets.

MultiFlex 4-Way Stretch is identical to its predecessor in many ways, with the hyperelasticity of the fabric being its main point of difference. Designed for high-intensity activities, such as scrambling or hill walking, it offers outstanding flexibility with stretch between all 4 points.

SW Coast Path, Durgan, Cornwall

For our Spring Summer outdoor range, our designers created a customer journey, sketching out a day trip one of our customers might take and taking inspiration from the sights they would see and the environments they would experience.

The day starts with low-level walking across open fields and lakeside paths. The temperature is cool and the colours here are rich, with classic greens and blues reflecting the grass, trees and water.

SW Coast Path, Lizard, Cornwall

As you move to the hills, the colours start to change. Blue lingers in the sky, but the ground beneath your feet becomes rockier. The dominant colours evolve into dusty reds and browns.

The path back down takes you towards the sea, where the colours change again. The navy and red tones of wooden rowing boats and beach umbrellas take over here.
