Keeping a polar bear alive is a tough test for a coat.

In the Arctic, temperatures that can freeze the breath inside our lungs are further chilled by winds that exceed one hundred miles per hour. They are as much a part of this wild landscape as the ever shifting clouds and moss covered lava fields. As deep rooted in the island’s history as the first settlers who arrived with them over one thousand years ago.

They are a pure breed – the only horses in Iceland.

No new horses are allowed to enter, and once a horse has left, it may never return.

And like every single Icelander, their lineage can be traced back to those who took the first steps on these wild shores.

This purity is a consequence of centuries of near total isolation; and it is fiercely protected.

This unique horse is still a central part of life on the island, which for centuries was without roads or bridges. Even today, they are used to round up the sheep from remote mountainsides during September.

During the freezing winter months, they grow a thick shaggy coat to fight the cold. They have a unique run called the tölt, a fast trot that is much quicker and smoother than a conventional trot.

It avoids bouncing the rider around and it can be maintained for great distances over terrain that would be totally unsuitable for leggier European horses.

The Icelandic horse is perfectly adapted to life on one of the world’s most unforgiving islands.

And for over ten centuries the Icelandic people have consistently protected their þarfasti þjónninn ~ most valuable servant.

The Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre is run by the charity UK Youth.

The Factory Youth Zone is a charity run state-of-the-art youth centre which provides a unique, safe place where anyone aged 8-21 can discover somewhere to go, something to do, and someone to talk to.

UK Youth is a charity at the heart of a national network of organisations dedicated to supporting young people to realise their potential. Their focus is on developing and promoting non-formal learning opportunities for all. Through regional associations and local youth groups they reach 750,000 young people each year.

Today their work makes a lasting impact by encouraging young people to take responsibility and become involved citizens.

It gives a voice to people who are too rarely heard and builds skills that will remain useful throughout their lives.

Skilled staff work hard to remove obstacles to participation and ensure that all the activities on offer at The Factory can be taken up by all members alike. The Gift Your Gear donations allow the young people to take on challenges such as their recent trip to Mount Snowdon, where they faced some rather difficult weather conditions.

Delivery Our standard charge is £3.95 to mainland UK addresses; you should have your parcel within three working days. Please call for a price, or check online if you need next-day or worldwide delivery. Alternatively, we also offer a Deliver to Store service. You can pick your order up from a Rohan store with no delivery charge. Someone from the shop will give you a call when it’s ready for collection.

Returns or Exchanges Please package the clothes carefully and include your exchange/ re‑order form which came with your original delivery.

Use recorded delivery or something similar. If it’s more convenient, take them into your local shop.

Our Guarantee Rohan products are designed and manufactured to be as functional, comfortable and durable as we know how. If for any reason they don’t live up to your expectations, we will be amazed, disappointed and keen to know why. We will then offer you a replacement, a refund or a repair. Damage from wear and tear will be repaired for a reasonable charge.
