The road to Fontainhas
It may be true that a lot of unlikely things are done for love. And if the old wives’ tales in Cape Verde are true, then the road to Fontainhas has to be right up there as one of the most surprising.
On the archipelago’s second largest island of Santa Antão, the old road from Ponta do Sol to Fontainhas takes a tortuous path around towering peaks and jaw dropping ravines. It’s a startling road that is said to have been built by one of the early Portuguese colonials allowing him to reach his lover who lived in the tiny village of Fontainhas –a little huddle of houses clinging to the mountainside.
For hikers, the landscape around Fontainhas on Santa Antão is reason enough to come to Cape Verde, and like everything about this little group of Islands in the Atlantic, off the west coast of Africa, it’s a startling mix of ingredients. Arid volcanic rock quickly transforms into verdant forests that cling to mountainsides and then in another instant, shift to perfect, deserted sandy beaches or charming colonial towns.
The people, food, music and language are an unpredictable mix of African and European that leaves most visitors wide-eyed and entranced. Colour, warmth, passion and pride come together to create a Creole culture that reminds you of Cuba, West Africa and Portugal all at once. You can dance at exuberant carnivals, dive for 16th century shipwrecks or hike deserted mountains – there’s lots of reasons to fall in love with Cape Verde.

Making a shirt this light, which looks this good, that feels this much like a regular shirt really takes some doing –and requires the application of some incredibly advanced fabric technology.
The big challenge with making extremely lightweight fabrics using standard weaving techniques is that the finished shirt becomes sheer, unpleasantly clingy and generally not very nice to wear.
To solve this we’ve worked with one of our most innovative fabric mills to develop a new, three-dimensional weaving technique.
This gives the shirt a reassuringly solid feel and a robust structure – but adds nothing to the weight.
Our Aura Shirt Short Sleeve weighs in at an astonishing 110g. And looks and feels great.
It also offers high protection from the harmful effects of UV radiation and, with our Dynamic Moisture ControlTM finish, complete comfort in hot and humid conditions.
It packs down to the dimensions of a decently-sized apple (the sort you remember from your childhood) and
offers high levels of both durability and tear resistance.
Our Aura Shirt takes advantage of sophisticated Anti Odour SilverTM technology from Polygiene® to minimise the growth of bacteria.
It’s simplicity itself to wash. Just throw it in the machine, or the nearest stream, and hang it from its integrated Dryloops.TM You’ll find it dries in a matter of hours, ready to go again. No ironing required.

Shipping
Your order will be despatched direct from our warehouse in the UK. Most parcels will be delivered within 10 business days. We charge a flat rate of $25 for shipping. The shipping charge is non-refundable

Returns
If you are not entirely happy with your order, simply return it to us in the condition you received it within 30 days and we’ll happily exchange or refund you in full. Please call 800 334 3750 or email us@rohandesigns.com to arrange for a free returns label to be sent to you. We aim to process your refund within 14 days from receipt into our returns department.
