KEY OBSERVATIONS:

ACTIONS:

• In February, 1948 users visited The Forge compared to 1605 in January - an increase of 21.4%. 90.6% of these visitors were new.

• The unfolding COVID-19 event provides ADC with an opportunity to complement its residential delivery of professional joint military education by increasing its continuous, accessible and adaptive digital content on The Forge.

• February has seen a massive increase in total page views, up 180% from 4338 in January to 12132. This metric highlights that visitors are exploring the site and finding engaging content. This observation is supported by an increase in the average session duration time - in February it was an all time high figure of 11min 24sec compared to 2min 03sec in January. • Targeted marketing and outreach for the ADC Sci-Fi Writing Competition garnered 655 page views - it can be speculated that this has provided a gateway to visitors motivating further exploration of the site. • Computer/laptop visitors viewing The Forge spent a massive 20min 43sec on average in February. Mobile phone visitors spent 1min 19sec. • 9% of visitors were ‘referred’ to The Forge in February with the majority arriving via The Cove. • Sydney displaced Melbourne (now 3rd) as the top city visiting the site. • Internationally, Malaysia jumped from 10th in January to 5th in February to become the second ranked NESB country behind India. • The two articles published in February ranked 2nd and 4th for readership behind the dependable Edwards and Diab articles.

• With an inevitable increase in JPME stakeholders accessing learning content remotely, it’s recommended that FLI be provisioned with extra resourcing to expedite article publication with no less than 11 articles awaiting editorial scrutiny. • It’s recommended that the strategy to reinvigorate The Edge component of the site be enacted as soon as practicable. The Edge, complemented by a strategic communication outreach campaign (Twitter, Spotlight etc.), can be utilised to publish and share targeted JPME-pertinent posts (e.g. ASPI, DefenceConnect, Feedspot etc.), plus Defence news, events and updates. • Given the popularity of the ADC Sci-Fi Writing Competition, it’s recommended ADC look to record the winning stories (and honourable mentions) using a contracted voice actor. These Orson Wells-esque artefacts can be posted to The Forge podcast-style providing rich, accessible content particularly for those in isolation.
