A New Wave is Coming to Jupiter

By Ryer Gardenswartz

The Jupiter Hammerheads are entering 2023 with a new look, a new team, and a new manager at the helm. Not to mention new promos, events, and fun all coming to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium this summer.

Jupiter will have a new on-field look when they first take the field on April 6th with new home, away, and alternate jerseys. The uniform facelift reintroduces red into the color scheme as a homage to the iconic Jupiter Lighthouse and to better represent the Miami Marlins. Jupiter will also have new pants with matching red and blue piping this upcoming season.

The block Hammerheads font will continue to don the white home uniforms with a red and blue outline. On the road greys, a new official Jupiter logo will be across the chest. The new wordmark comes from the club’s existing primary logo, with a new color scheme and an emphasis on the fishhook J. The Hammerheads will no longer sport a black alternate jersey as they shift to an all-blue jersey. The Marlins wear all-blue tops during Spring Training at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, and now the future fish will too.

In these new uniforms will be a new squad for the Hammerheads. With plenty of familiar faces returning to the Hammerheads, there will also be some new names to learn as they make their way to the big leagues. The 2023 roster is led by four players in the Marlins Top-30 Prospect List according to MLB Pipeline. Leading the charge is Jacob Miller, the No. 8 overall prospect. The right-handed pitcher is known for his fastball that touches 97 MPH. The 2022 2nd round draft selection played just one game for Jupiter at the end of last season. Ian Lewis, the Marlins No. 15 prospect, is also slated to play for the Hammerheads again. The middle infielder played in 51 games before an injury cut his 2022 season short. Joining Miller on the mound will be Marlins’ No. 16 prospect Karson Milbrandt. Like Miller, Milbrandt also made one start for Jupiter at the end of last season and was a member for the 2022 draft class going in the 3rd round. The righty also has zip to his fastball and some of the best fastball spin rates from the 2022 prep class. Finally, Cody Morissette is tabbed to join the team at the beginning of the season as he rehabs a prior injury. The Boston College alum played for the Hammerheads in 2021 after being drafted by the Marlins in the second round.

Along with a fresh roster, there will be a new manager at the helm for the Hammerheads as Nelson Prada takes over. Prada is no stranger to the Florida State League, having both played and managed in the circuit. Jupiter’s newest skipper played 41 games with the Fort Myers Miracle as a 22-year-old catcher in 1998. Prada then returned to the FSL, serving as the manager for the Clearwater Threshers in 2014. In 2021, Prada joined the Marlins organization and became the hitting coach for the DSL Marlins before being promoted to manager last season. Beyond affiliated baseball, Prada also managed the Spanish national team in the 2021 European Championship. Spain went undefeated in their group and eventually earned third place in the international tournament. Prada also had a role with the national team during the 2022 World Baseball qualifiers that took place in Regensburg, Germany.
