Residential Trips 2025-2026

The School is delighted to offer 17 residential trips in 2025-2026, and these will provide experiences to suit students in all year-groups. These complement a range of non-residential trips, as well as lectures and workshops in School, and Years 7 and 8 regularly enjoy a wide range of day-trips. There are also expeditions in the summer term for those undertaking the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, and an exciting trip to explore Morocco, a Ski Trip to Italy, a philanthropic trip to Moldova, and a fantastic opportunity for an exchange to Roedean South Africa.

Costs Of Residential Trips

The costs for these trips are informed estimates, which we hope will help with planning and budgeting, although it is important to be aware that the precise costs will be made clear when places are allocated. This is because the cost of both travel and accommodation are fluctuating a great deal currently. For trips which require an early deposit to secure a place, the cost will be confirmed at this point.

Payments for these trips will generally be added to your daughter’s School bill, and, wherever possible, payments will be spread – this will be clarified in the correspondence for each trip. Families which receive means-tested support may apply for financial support for curriculum trips.

Visas

If your daughter requires a visa to travel on an international trip, it is the responsibility of parents or guardians to secure the necessary documentation. In the unlikely event that this cannot be secured in good time, it may not be possible to refund the costs of the trip.

How Places On Trips Are Allocated

If your daughter is keen to go on one or more of these trips, please complete this form which will allow you to indicate which are of interest, as well as ranking them in order of preference.

It may be that some trips are over-subscribed, in which case the School will prioritise certain students; for example, for trips with an academic focus, those students studying the subject or intending to continue with it in the following year will be prioritised. Older students with fewer opportunities over the coming years may also be given priority.

Off-Setting The Carbon Footprint Of Residential Trips

The School is keen to make trips as sustainable as possible, but some emissions from travel are unavoidable. We are exploring different options, including funding local hedgeplanting projects to off-set the trips’ carbon footprint, and Roedean recently planted 105 trees awarded to us by the Woodland Trust at the south-west corner of the site.

Calshot – Geography GCSE Field Trip

The annual Geography field trip to the Calshot Activities Centre is a landmark start to the Year 11 GCSE course. The weekend’s key purpose is to spend the compulsory two days ‘in the field’ required by all exam boards in our subject. We carry out physical fieldwork on the River Darkwater, and human fieldwork in Lyndhurst.

Calshot is also Hampshire County Council’s outdoor activity centre, so we embrace the opportunity to partake in a range of activities, including rock climbing, dry skiing, and archery, in between the Geography sessions, which bonds the cohort and always leaves indelible memories.

Iceland – Geography & Cultural Trip

Iceland is simply a ‘must see’ location. Unlike anywhere else, the country’s stark and otherworldly but breathtaking beauty draws visitors from all over the world.

Whether climbing on glaciers, swimming in geothermal pools, driving in between dormant volcanoes, treading on black beaches, or walking up or behind majestic waterfalls, Iceland always thrills and always leaves the visitor with a plethora of memories.

Touring with a school party can also give access to certain sites less visited by independent tourists. Our Geography trip is as much about experiencing the warm and inviting Icelandic culture as the raw and magnificent natural features.

This trip will be an exciting opportunity to visit this amazing city, which is steeped in historical context, particularly during the Cold War, and this is also the reason why it is a melting pot of different stylers of architecture and design.

Dorset – A Level Geography Field Trip

All A Level Geography courses require students to spend four days ‘in the field’ during the course. At Roedean, we visit the fantastic Leeson House field centre outside Swanage in sunny June to fulfil this compulsory requirement. However, with the experience of 30 years of Dorset visits, the Head of Geography is able to guide our students around the best examples of coastal geomorphology and coastal management that England has to offer, alongside the students’ NEA (coursework) preparation.

The trip also utilises the excellent Leeson House tutors and their specialist field equipment. The Swanage field trip has become a ‘rite of passage’ for senior Geographers and the girls will always remember their days spent on the Jurassic Coastline of Dorset.

Over a period of a week, 12 remarkable students will teach English to Ukrainian refugee children, supported by the NGO, Hope4. They will also visit an orphanage outside the capital, which has become the focus of our fund-raising in Year 11 and the Sixth Form.
