A Level Results Profiles

SARAH – MEDICINE AT CHURCHILL COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE Well done to Sarah, who achieved four outstanding A* grades at A Level in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Further Mathematics. These excellent results have started her on the next exciting stage of her education – in October, she will take up her place to study Medicine at Churchill College, Cambridge, and there is no doubt that she will thrive in a challenging environment. Sarah certainly has a bright future – everyone at Roedean wishes her well!

CARISSA – VET MED AT PEMBROKE COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE Well done to Carissa, who achieved A*A*A* in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology and takes up her place at Pembroke College, Cambridge, to study Veterinary Medicine. She is fanatical about reptiles, and snakes in particular, and she is incredibly excited about studying Veterinary Medicine at such a prestigious institution. We wish her all the best.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS FOR GRACE Ever since she arrived as a full boarder at Roedean in Year 8, Grace has played an active part in so many areas of school life, always positive and fully committed. She sang in choir, had roles on the stage, played Double Bass and Bass Guitar in numerous ensembles, and was an excellent Pastoral Prefect. She achieved BCC at A Level, and will be studying International Relations and Politics at the University of Lincoln – she has already travelled widely and lived in various countries around the world, so she will, no doubt, go far in this field.

HOLLY IS GOING TO ART FOUNDATION AT BRIGHTON MET Holly joined Roedean in the Sixth Form from our sister school in South Africa, and her talent for Art was immediately clear. The South African education system means that she had no formal qualifications when she arrived, but she has achieved A*CC at A Level. She is looking forward to developing her already impressive artistic skills on her Art Foundation course, and this will be a wonderful platform for a successful career in this field.

FLORENCE – 3 A*S AND AN EY APPRENTICESHIP Congratulations to Florence, one of our outgoing Head Girls, who, with A*A*A* at A Level in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, and Chemistry, could have the pick of where to go next. She has decided not to follow the typical path, but instead has made the exciting decision to take up a highly-coveted Strategy and Transactions Apprenticeship with EY. She started last week, and is enjoying the challenge of it: ‘I’m absolutely loving it – I end up with two Master’s degree level qualifications, one being the ACA which means I’m officially a Chartered Accountant, and the other is the actual L7 apprenticeship, in Accountancy and Taxation.’ To get to this point, Florence succeeded in all seven rounds of selection, and, of the 40,000 graduates and apprentices who applied, only 1004 started last week. Good luck, Florence – we are proud of you!

DRAMA FOUNDATION FOR ISOBEL Well done to Isobel, who achieved BBC at A Level, and will be the first student for a good number of years to take up a Drama Foundation course.

The one-year course at Mountview is highly respected, and it focuses in large part on diverse performance skills. This will suit Isobel perfectly – she has taken principal roles in many Roedean performances, demonstrating a wonderful talent for characterisation, and we wish her well.

ROSIE’S GOING TO CAMBRIDGE Congratulations to Rosie, who achieved A*A*A*A* in A Level Art, Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics – she leaves Roedean to take up a place at Magdalene College, Cambridge, where she will read Natural Sciences. This was not, however, the position on Results’ Day: the blunt algorithm used to calculate grades initially gave her AA*A*A, and this meant that she had not met her Cambridge offer.

Rosie responded with incredible maturity: ‘When I got my Cambridge offer in January, I knew that I could get those grades – so it’s a shame because if I had taken the exams, it would have been fine, but the pandemic has stopped that.

I’m still positive about possibly getting in, but, if not, I loved St Andrews so that will be great.’ We are delighted that, after eight days of uncertainty, her grades have changed to those she would have achieved, and her place at Cambridge has been confirmed. Congratulations, Rosie – and good luck!

FOURTH GENERATION TO UCL FOR SHAN Congratulations to Shan, who achieved A*AB at A Level in Art, Mathematics, and Physics. She leaves Roedean to take up a place at The Bartlett, at University College London to read Architecture. She is incredibly excited to carry on a family tradition, as she will be the thirteenth member of her family and fourth generation to study at UCL. Shan, one of Roedean’s Deputy Head Girls and the daughter of a Roedeanian, loved her time at School: ‘I will treasure the memories and experiences gained there.’ Good luck!
