Roedean girls love STEM. Come for a taster of the activities that have them hooked on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Who should come?

Any girls with a sense of curiosity for the world around them and who are keen to make an early start on developing the skills that will be vital for many future careers in our increasingly technologically advanced society.

What will you get from the day?

Experience of new and exciting experiments and activities and the chance to develop skills in all of the STEM areas. The girls will be challenged, amazed and inspired in equal measures. They will be working with highly-qualified, enthusiastic and passionate members of our STEM team to get a real flavour of the buzz surrounding these subjects at Roedean.

Hockey

ENGLAND HOCKEY Autumn 2021 DATE:

This is a unique opportunity to attend a professional hockey masterclass led by an England Hockey player, training and playing on Roedean’s all-weather hockey pitch. Our last Hockey Experience saw us welcome to Roedean Kate RichardsonWalsh who was captain of the women’s England Hockey Squad for 13 years, captaining them to the their first Olympic Gold Medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Who should come?

Schools should send full hockey squads of girls or individual applicants with a passion for hockey.

What will you do?

You will train on our fantastic all-weather hockey pitch and will establish and refine new skills in the morning. There will also be an opportunity to hear the player speak about her career to date, which will equally enthuse and inspire.

In the afternoon, you will participate in a fun tournament.

What will you get from the day?

A fantastic day, delivered by a professional, international player, you will learn new skills and hone your existing ones. This will be of particular interest to aspirational hockey players, and especially if you are considering a hockey scholarship at Roedean in the future.

DISCOVERY DAY

Discovery Day is one of the highlights of the year and is focused around themed academic activities.

Who should come?

This day is open to registered girls for 11+ 2021 entry and 13+ 2023 entry and is the first formal admissions event. Girls following the early-entrance programme and who have already accepted their place are also encouraged to attend.

What will you do?

You will take part in a day of exciting themed lesson experiences. The girls take a Non-Verbal Reasoning test on this day, and have a short group discussion, after which conditional offers are made.

February

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS BE BRAVE, BE BOLD ...and you may discover hidden talents!

Who should come?

What will you get from the day?

This exciting day will be suitable both for the experienced performer/artist and the novice. The project will allow for all levels of experience and ability.

This day will be great fun and it will also allow you the opportunity to try something new, to learn new skills, and maybe to discover new interests and talents. Each of you will take part in the final performance which will be staged in our professionally-equipped theatre, with full lighting and sound designs to support your performance at the end of the day.

What will you do?

You will participate in a carousel of creative workshops, culminating in a themed performance in the Theatre; last years’ theme was Frozen! The day will include Art, Dance, Drama and Music. You will wear costumes, and use props and sets you have created yourselves in the Art workshop. The day will include a technical and dress rehearsal, and your parents will be invited to watch the final 15-minute performance, where you will be able to showcase your efforts.

RACE ACROSS THE WORLD...

Journey through the Ancient World and beyond with our Classics and Modern Foreign Languages departments on a travel and languagethemed Experience.

DATE: Thursday 24 February 2022 TIME: 9:30-15:00 BOOKING: 11+ 2022/3 & 13+ 2024/5

Who should come?

Girls with an interest in learning more about the Ancient World, and a desire to combine their passion for languages with a sense of adventure.

What will you do?

In Classics, you will ‘Race Across the Ancient World’ exploring the different methods of travel and transport in the Roman Empire! Plot and budget your route as a Roman to see how quickly you can race around the ancient world to visit the Colosseum and other impressive sites. You will also discover the different foods found around the Ancient World and the amazing entertainment at Roman Dinner Parties.

Learn about the influences on Roman food and create a dinner party plan to wow your guests! Will you have dancing slaves serve your starters or choose an exploding cake for dessert? Plan your very own dinner party Roman style!

In Languages, you will ‘Race Across the Modern World’, travelling across Europe and China . You will be issued with your own individual passport and as you successfully complete different activities, you will be granted access to the next country. If you are keen to learn more about Chinese calligraphy, discover a plethera of fun and insightful facts about French, Spanish, German and Italian culture and learn helpful greetings in various modern foreign languages, then this workshop is for you!

What will you get from the day?

During the day, you will use a range of skills such as problem-solving, analysing, teamwork, gain an insight into other cultures, and have lots of fun in the process.

ENGLAND NETBALL A fantastic and exciting opportunity for you to attend a professional masterclass with an England superleague netballer.

Last year, we were lucky enough to welcome, Sasha Corbin, to Roedean. She represents the Hertfordshire Mavericks and made her international debut for England in 2007 at the age of 19.

The Masterclass was a fabulous day. Ella and her teammates thoroughly enjoyed the day. The skills session in the morning was excellent and and the inspiration obviously paid off as Ella and her teammates had an outstanding day at the IAPS Nationals on Thursday and become National IAPS Champions!

What will you do?

In the morning, teams will practise drills and skills focussing on attack and defence. In the afternoon, there will be a fun tournament where teams will be able to put their coaching into practice. There will be an opportunity to ask questions, followed by a presentation of medals and a ball for the Player of the Tournament - parents are welcome to attend.

What will you get from the day?

You will hear about cutting edge tactics, delivered by a professional international player. This valuable experience will further develop your netball skills, especially if you are considering a netball scholarship at Roedean in the future.
