BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF THE SITE The Jing'an District is located in the center of Shanghai, with narrow areas, large population, many housing constructions, few green spaces and heavy traffic, thus forming an obviously "hot island" effect in China. And the site is located in the south-west of Renaissance Park ••• •• .1 A place where there are many concerts and carnivals held

Jing' an District. There isn't have much public places for people to rest especially in the hot summer. So, how to create a public shared space for people to change their lifestyles have hecome a problem in front of us.

While the high-rise building benefit from the surroundings it will also service the surroundings, bringing jobs to some low-income people. In the building, people can use public activity space without any restriction, which can enhance the interaction between people and form a harmonious society. The high-rise build ing seems lo be a new symbol of the region, it will inject new vitality into the region and keep people in a positive spirit lo life.

Because of the Sino-Japanese War, most of the vi llages were dcstorycd and this area became the wasteland. The government built the Shi Zikou prison to imprison important war criminals. A fler the reform and opening up, the prison was opposite to the Soochow University and the residential area which was very discordant with surroundings.

Aller the relocation of the prison, the government hoped to change the Pingjiang Road into a comprehensive commercial street with the typical characteristics ofsuzhou city . They hoped the street has classical culture together with the fashionable atmosphere, and carries a deep city history. So, 1 will try to through the research of typology to regenerate the urban texture.

The combination ofthe shed roof building can produce a lot of interesting fonn s, but the prototype was just a terrace, paho or inner courtyard. People living in the north of china designed the quadrangle dwellings to prevent the wind and sand from entering the courtyard. People living in the south of china de1igned the patio because of the wet air. And the combination of shed roof makes the space more interesting and open

The flat roof is the most common form in modern sooiety due to its simple architectural structure. But the prototype were just .some different sized cuboid boxes,

and people only lived indoors. However, with the dc\lelopmcnt of society and

they pay more attention to have the1t semi-public space Due to the structure of the flat roof is simple. and the combination of the blocks 1s flexible which can produce a lot of interesting space so that flat roof are used widely .

o f the city wall, when people walking in commercial street, they will not miss the scenery of the old city wall. On the west side of the site is historical protection buildings, so in the design of architectural layout, the protection buildings arc surrounded by new buildings as far as possible. /\long the waler street, the commercial pedestrian streets arc interspersed in east-west d irection, which wi II be connected with arch bridges, which refl ects the characteristics of Jiangnan water township. In order to regenerate the historical urban texture, as many as possible lo design buildings with courtyards and atriums. Tourists arc better to experience the unique space in the historic district.

The folk craftsmen are the special scenery line in chinese old alleys. It turns out that they arc all interspersed in the corners of the street, the workplace is very casual, and now, by planning, there are some certain buildings for them to work . Through this way, I hope to preserve this particular city culture.

Chess is an indispensable lifestyle for the elderly. In the past, a lot of people used to play chess on the side of the road or at the gate of the lane, so there could be safety problems. Now, through the planning, we have designed an integrated activity building for o ld people, including chess, drama, Suzhou Pintan, newspapers and so on.
