Wildflower Dreams

As the majestic mountains harmonize with delicate clouds of wildflowers, the sea meets the sky in a perfect balance of yin and yang. Nadia Hung and Honour and Blessing Events wanted to capture the natural beauty of Whistler in this gorgeous elopement shoot. Delicate drapey fabrics, light pastel colours and the customized floral clouds by Garden Party Flowers helped to achieve the illusion that the couple was floating on clouds. It’s what every couple feels after they’ve just tied the knot, basking in the newlywed glow that gives the sun a run for its money.

WILDFLOWER DREAMS The elopement announcement designed by Maurelle Calligraphy truly brought everything together seamlessly. Between the stunning custom sketch of the Whistler area, to the unique raw-edge stationery, the piece felt authentic and organic. Add in a pastel pink envelope and a handmade wax seal and you have a match made in heaven. The bride’s light grey gown created by Hannah Tikkanen was truly a thing of ethereal beauty, with its open back and feminine shape.

Whistler never lose an opportunity to see anything beautiful

W H I ST L E R 1 0 1 Advice for a perfect trip to the Sea-to-Sky Corridor featuring favourite local spots. Like all of British Columbia, the weather can change in the blink of an eye. Planning ahead can make all of the difference.

S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R Located among the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, just two hours north of Vancouver, Whistler is an all-year round haven for lovers of the outdoors. With two majestic mountains, Blackcomb and Whistler, the area boasts amazing views and a vibrant base village. Skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking and hiking are only some of the great activities that visitors can enjoy. The area is a beautiful and popular location for mountain wedding escapes. During the winter, Whistler can often see temperatures hovering around -5°C, meaning it’s important to layer from December to February. April is a beautiful time in Whistler as the summer colours and pretty blooms begin to emerge. This unique locale offers dozens of ways for couples to say “I do” and relax in the company of family and friends. An elegant sea to sky celebration is sure to be in your future if you choose Whistler as your ideal wedding location.

EILLEY ALEXIS PHOTOGRAPHY

W H AT T O P A C K Since Whistler is located in the mountains, it’s a good idea to pack a knit cap, chunky scarf and multiple layers, especially if you’re visiting in the wintertime. If you’re engaging in any type of winter activity, base layers and gloves are crucial to brave the winter cold. As for the summer months, sunglasses and a functional backpack will get you through any kind of day trip in the area. If you’re planning on hiking or venturing out into the woods, it’s essential that you bring a can of bear spray with you at all times! You can never be too safe. At high elevations it’s important to drink lots of water, so toting around a big water bottle will ensure that you’re staying hydrated! Overall, it’s always key to check the weather before you leave and to plan for any occasion in your busy weekend.

ACTIVITIES There is something for you and your honey, whether you’re adventure enthusiasts, foodies or art connoisseurs. Be ready to start your trip off on a high note by skiing or snowboarding Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort. Take the Peak 2 Peak gondola for full views of the amazing mountainscape. You won’t ever regret seeing the sights and tackling those runs. When you’ve gotten in all of your skiing for the day, it’s time to eat your way through Whistler Village! Dining is Whistler Village is world-class, and you’ll seriously want to try every. single. restaurant. Depending on what you choose for your rehearsal dinner venue, you should make it your goal to get one of Basalt Wine + Salumeria’s decadent charcuterie boards. Pair your charcuterie board with a grilled caramelized pear, burrata, prosciutto, walnut and honey-glaze salad with a good glass of wine, and you’re set to go! Stop by one of the many breweries in the area, like Whistler Brewing, Whistler Brew House or Coast Mountain Brewing, for a satisfying night cap. For other activities, try hiking the Musical Bump, High Note or Rainbow Lakes trail! You won’t be able to get enough of the mountain views and scenic lakes. Head into Whistler Village for a day of shopping and exploring. Lululemon Athletica, Roots Whistler, Armchair Books, Whistler Winter Wear, Mount Cashmere and Plaza Galleries are just some of the many shops that call the Whistler Village home. Next up is relaxation, and Whistler has so many opportunities to choose from! Escape to Aviva Wellness Massage Spa, the Scandinave Spa Whistler or the Spa at Four Seasons Resort for a full day of R&R. The ticket for a spectacular wedding weekend is a day of rest and relaxation - it’s good for the mind and soul! whistler wedding guide 2020 / rockymountainbride.com

Any Service BC location can also issue a marriage license. Examples of proper identification include: a birth certificate, IMM/ immigration form, permanent resident card or citizenship card. A passport or driver’s license is only accepted in some cases. Local Wedding Inspiration

Kari + Lucas riverlands weddings and events

Kari and Lucas got engaged in the best spot of all, the comfort of their sweet new townhome in front of a brilliant sunset. For their wedding, the pair brought to life an elegant, classic and slightly vintage-feeling dream of a day. Their subtle pastel colour scheme, fun ‘outdoor living room’ and DIY decorations really set the tone as slightly refined, yet still casual. The bride’s handmade “no ugly crying” hankies for emotional guests were absolute showstoppers and SO clever. Lucas also amped up the fun by doing tequila shots with Kari’s parents - the closest thing that they have to a tradition!

T W O V I N TA G E H E A RT S

Hearing Lucas say “I do” was the icing on the cake for Kari! It was so special to hear her groom saying those words officially in front of all of their loved ones. The thoughtful speeches from everyone who made one really highlighted how near and dear to their hearts each guest was to the happy couple. Between the amazing wedding decor, beautiful backdrop and incredible people, Kari and Lucas’ day couldn’t have been imagined any better.

Amanda + John fa i r m o n t c h at e a u w h i s t l e r

It all started off with Coffee Meets Bagel, the dating app, that is. After their first introduction, Amanda and John just knew they were meant to be. On December 30, 2018, John had much bigger plans than Amanda could have ever expected. She was told that they were doing a lake snowshoe tour, and as the pair walked down to the dock together, Amanda noticed that the couple right next to them was her best friend Steph and her husband Reid. As our bride turned around to tell John, there he was…down on one knee asking her to be his partner for life. Of course, Amanda replied with an excited “yes,” and the celebrations ensued, champagne and all!

SUMMER LOVIN’ After many venue visits with no location feeling ‘quite right,’ the dynamic duo headed to where it all started, Whistler, B.C. Amanda and John decided that it was so charming and captivating, that they just couldn’t wait to share it with all of their loved ones. One of the traditions that was included in their wedding, despite coming from different religious backgrounds, was the breaking of the glass…or in their case, sabering of the LaSalle Champagne! The pair had a wonderfully beautiful welcome box for every single one of their guests that featured things like rosé, beer, chocolate and granola. Since their wedding, Amanda has actually been offering these boxes in different designs and sizes for all sorts of events!

Saman + Manny GREEN LA K E

Both nearing the end of their undergraduate studies, Sam and Manny had very little time to meet a romantic partner…clearly the universe had a different plan for them. Upon meeting through a dating app in December of 2017, the two connected instantly and couldn’t be separated from that day forward. Their proposal came two and a half years later, while the pair embarked on a beautiful summer trip to Whistler for the August long weekend. whistler wedding guide 2020 / rockymountainbride.com

“YES!” The weekend was planned as a way to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of the week. Manny is notorious for going with the flow, but this weekend was different. He asked many questions about their schedule for the day, things that he normally wouldn’t ask. After a long day of adventures, they found themselves at Nicklaus North Golf Course, which was a surprise to Sam since she thought they were heading to Vallea Lumina. As they walked along the beach at Green Lake, Sam and Manny stumbled upon a picnic set up with champagne, flowers and photos of the couple. Obviously, this picnic was meant for them! Manny got down on one knee as the sun set in the distance, and you know where the story goes from here…of course, Sam said yes!

Q & A with Colleen Conroy Makeup & Hair @colleenconroymakeup | colleenconroymakeup.com

What is your favorite part of the job? When I go to work it feels like I’m having a good old fashion girl’s day. I love that my clients feel like friends, and that I have the opportunity to make them feel beautiful and amazing on such a special day.

Do you have a favorite tool of the trade? I can’t even count how many times I have said out loud “I am so happy I have my Zuca Artist Backpack”. It is a special backpack designed specifically for pro artists. It is super comfortable and has all the right compartments. I bought it while living and working in Montreal (so I didn’t have to lug a rolling kit in the full Canadian Winter) and it turned out to be one of the best things I’ve ever bought!

Where do you come up with your ideas? I think it’s really fun to see what is on trend and relevant when it comes to bridal looks. But what I love the most is investigating with clients about how they want to feel. Knowing their vision helps create my vision, and it is so fun combining those two together…that and Pinterest lol

What is one thing you wish you could educate your clients on? That they are gorgeous, makeup or no makeup!

What is your best hidden talent? I play the banjo! (although I’m still a bit of a newbie, so not sure if that qualifies as talent haha!). I also went to school for photography, which I don’t think a lot of people know.

What is your favourite wedding season? Being in Whistler I feel slightly partial to winter weddings. Every season is gorgeous here, but there is something so magical about winter weddings in this area.

Which job would you like to try for a day? I once had the opportunity to lend a hand in the Set Decoration department when I first started out in TV & Film. It was a ton of fun! I helped as a buyer so I went out and purchased items for different scenes. I’m a shopaholic at heart, so I felt like I was basically born for that (lol), however, I would love to try out the actual set design aspect!

What is your Biggest Indulgence? Skin care, chocolate chips, and Peloton classes.

What is your Astrology sign? I am a Cancer, which means I tend to feel all the feels right there with you!
