for your

Being born and raised in Colorado, I found my love for the Rockies in a state that holds so many beautiful places. Through the years, I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many of the other states across the Rockies and have found a certain charm to all of them. Something about the fresh air blowing through the evergreens, or the sand blowing across the Southwest deserts, and the aqua blue lakes in the north, I couldn’t think of a better place to say “I do!” than the Rockies. As I begin to plan my own Rocky Mountain wedding using RMB, I hope that within these pages you will find all the inspiration and tips you need to make your day everything you want it to be. We’ve scouted the best of the best in your area to provide you trusted local vendors. Happy Planning!

TA O S 1 0 1 Advice for a perfect Taos trip featuring favorite spots of the area. Planning ahead can make all of the difference for your guests and you.
dylan crossley photo
S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R With its close proximity to snow-dusted mountains and with a mild climate all year round, Taos shines as an ideal wedding location. From June to August, the weather is warm and sunny, perfect for an outdoor ceremony. If you are looking for that warm weather vibe and plenty of rays, July might be your best bet with average temps in the low-80s. On the other hand, if you are wanting a cozy and cool ambiance to your day, look to January and February when the town is often blanketed with snow. For a more moody day, check out August. While there is a chance of rain, storm clouds instantly add a dramatic feel, and they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

W H AT T O P A C K Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of the guesswork out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months, sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony, and reminding guests to drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness.
ACTIVITIES During the winter months, hit the slopes at Taos Ski Valley or Angel Fire Resort. The resorts boast more than 30 trails for beginners and 150 trails for more advanced skiers and snowboarders. Taos Ski Valley is part of the Ikon Pass, which allows you to enjoy more than 30 world-class skiing resorts in the United States. After a day on the mountain, warm up with apres ski snacks and sips. Hike to the highest point in New Mexico, Wheeler Peak. Northeast of Taos and south of the Red River, start at Williams Lake Trail then branch off to Wheeler Peak. This nearly 8-mile out-and-back trail will get your heart pumping and offers stunning views of nearby peaks and a clear lake. The trail is rated difficult and is best accessed from June to October. Filled with history to explore, Taos is home to Taos Pueblo, which is a Native American community and also a National Historic Landmark. Another must-see site is the historic San Francisco de Asis Church in Ranchos de Taos, which is an original pueblo-style church from the 1800s. The final spot to check off your list is the steel-deck arch Rio Grande Gorge Bridge that sits 650 feet above the river.

Make it official In the state of New Mexico, you can get your marriage license at any county clerk’s office. Your partner and you must both be in attendance with proper identification. You will be asked multiple questions while you are there such as when and where are you getting married or if you’ve had any previous marriages. It will cost $25 that must be paid at the time the license is issued. The state of New Mexico does not require you to be a resident or have a blood test but does require two witnesses. There is no waiting period to obtain a marriage license so you can plan your wedding at your leisure. Karen + Micah hotel luna mystica
Karen and Micah met while working on a television show. They were just friends for a couple years before their friendship transformed into something more. After seven years of dating, Karen and Micah set off for a music festival in Napa, California. When the pair first arrived they grabbed a bite to eat before driving out to a stunning vineyard where Micah wanted to take a few pictures. Micah set his camera up on a tripod and was able to capture the moment he proposed for Karen and him to cherish for years to come. They spent the weekend celebrating their engagement while listening to all the live music. Karen and Micah planned a surprise glamping wedding for September 22nd.

Corina + Dallas el monte sagrado
Corina and Dallas met while working together in the orthopedic device industry. After a year and a half of dating, the two set off for a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. On one of the evenings, Dallas surprised Corina with a dinner overlooking the ocean. There was a second surprise in the middle of the dinner when a photographer arrived to do a mini-beach photoshoot of the couple. As soon as the shoot began, Dallas presented Corina with the final surprise of the night - a proposal! Corina and Dallas planned a classic wedding for August 24th.

Q & A with
introducing
Jasper K Photography By: Erin Mitschele What is your favorite part of the job? Capturing moments that will live on for my couples forever. Life is short + you don’t realize how quickly time flies. Documenting their love + the moments they’ll want to relive again + again is my absolute favorite. I love being able to capture these moments not just for my couples, but for their loved ones as well to cherish forever.
Do you have a favorite tool of the trade? I think my favorite tool of the trade is that I have really invested in my education to understand and master lighting. I really understand how light works and how to shoot in any situation that is thrown my way. Whether it be a dark, dimly lit church to harsh sunlight during a ceremony at noon. I am prepared for any lighting situation and how to create beautiful images with any circumstance.
Where do you come up with your ideas? I am a super nerd so I get a lot of inspiration from the books I read and the shows/ movies I watch. I am also a huge fan of COLOR!! I love bright and vibrant colors so I love to showcase them in beautiful ways! Also -- I am a proud Taosena gal so anytime I can showcase my culture or how I grew up, I am all for it!

What they should look for when choosing a photographer. It is so much more than just liking their photos and if they are in your price range. You have to find someone that you truly connect with and that will capture your vision to a T. There are so many variables to consider when choosing a photographer -- what moments do they focus? Do they focus on capturing family/traditional portraits or do they have a strictly candid style? Are they going to dive deep and capture what YOU want from your day? Sooooo much to consider, but this is something that I am hoping to help couples with! Especially because I am a newlywed and I have been in those exact same shoes not too long ago!
What is your favorite journey? Working Weddings in Australia for a year.
What is your idea of perfect happiness? Beautiful sunny day exploring in the mountains.

Having a professional photographer on hand to capture the moment you say “yes” gives you a keepsake to cherish for a lifetime.
This is a great time to show off your partner as well as your new ring. Cheers, you have officially been upgraded to fiancé.
While the bling is the number one focus of a #ringselfie, the background view is also important. Try a few different angles to get the ultimate shine from your bling.
To cast those stunning prisms all around, you need bright direct light. Move your fingers back and forth to create these dashing rainbows.
Add a filter from VSCO or Instagram to brighten any shadows and keep the focus on your ring. Our favs are Lightroom, KiraKira+ and Instasize!
