Engagement

Jessica + Patrick

=Music and art brought Jessica and Patrick together. Their worlds collided on a beautiful summer’s day at an Orgone show at Levit Pavilion in Denver, Colorado. band. “Afterwards, Patrick came up to me and told me I had the most beautiful green eyes he had ever seen. I blushed and looked around to see if he was with us or was a total random. I was relieved to know he was good friends with mine and invited him to come to enjoy some more music at our spot downtown in Rino,” recalls Jessica. Two days later they went on their first date and have been inseparable ever since.

A week after the pair moved into their new home, Patrick surprised Jessica by taking her to a nearby trail to watch the sunset. He got down on one knee and asked her to spend forever with him. Jessica immediately said yes.

Audry and Logan’s story all started at a party in college. Little did they know, a few drinks that night would be the start of their forever. 10 years into the relationship, while the two were having a romantic dinner at the top of the Rockefeller Plaza, Logan proposed by sliding a ring across the table! They celebrated with champagne and planned a mountain themed wedding at Taos Ski on August 21st.

“We tried our best to include some traditional New Mexican themes. Much of our wedding included the Zia symbol, including a painting we both started during a ceremony. The Zia is a reminder that all things are bound by life and love, without a beginning or end. We thought this was an excellent symbolism to include in our wedding ceremony. Additionally, we included some polka on the dance floor, as we are originally from Wisconsin and set up a “wish you were here” mantle with pictures of loved ones who were not able to make it. Our wedding planner, Rose, also setup a heart display of luminarias, which is another New Mexican tradition!”

26 rockymountainbride.com / taos wedding guide 2022 “You can’t take it too seriously! There are bound to be a few things that don’t go as planned and in order to enjoy your day you have to be a little flexible! Do not be afraid to delegate to friends and family, and hire a wedding planner!” ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“We wanted our wedding to showcase all of the things we have grown to love about New Mexico. Taos Ski Valley is a special place for us. It is where Logan taught me to ski, and is one of our favorite places to visit. The mountains were calling, and we just had to go!”

Lindsay planned a birthday dinner for Charles at one of their favorite restaurants and included several friends. She made a very special cake decorated with a beach theme that was supposed to be a clue to the secret trip she had planned for the two of them. After the meal, she saw the waitress walking towards the table with a cake. However, she could tell from afar this was NOT the special cake she had made! Before Lindsay could intervene Charles stood up and gave a lengthy speech about how much Lindsay meant to him and ended up down on one knee proposing in front of their friends and everyone at the restaurant. After saying “yes”

Lindsay looked down at the cake that had been placed in front of her instead of in front of Charles. This cake read “Will you Marry Me?” The two planned a garden themed wedding at the El Monte Sagrado for August 28th.

Lindsay & Charles Lindsay and Charles met in their hometown of Austin, Texas. Their desire to surprise each other resulted in a perfect proposal.

“Getting married outside is terrifying, but in New Mexico the weather usually cooperates and it is absolutely magical. Include as many personal touches as possible. All the animals included in our wedding were feared by some to come across as ‘corny’ but they turned out to be total highlights and gave the wedding a very personal and unique vibe. If you make the day about you and your significant other it will be wonderful. Don’t let your wedding fit into a ‘one size fits all’ mold. And GET A VIDEOGRAPHER! Vladimir Chaloupka is amazing!”

“We love the area and love being outdoors. Lindsay’s parents have had a home in Taos for several years and wanting to get out of the cookie cutter wedding scene that plagues Austin, Texas, the ‘wedding capitol of the US,’ so we decided to go where the vibe is laid back, the weather is beautiful and the surroundings serene. We are so very happy with the choice to marry at the foothill of Taos Mountain!”

Jon and Laurie have taken an annual fall camping trip to Twin Lakes, Colorodo, since they first started dating in 2014. It’s a beautiful campsite that overlooks a sea of golden aspens surrounding the Twin Lakes to the East and Mount Elbert towering above us to the South. On October 3, 2020, they again made their way back to our favorite campsite only to discover a “No Trespassing” signs at their campground entrance. “We decided to take the risk and trespass anyway. Over coffee during our favorite time in the morning, Jon proposed.

Laurie and Jon met at a Crossfit gym. “Jon had great abs, which both caught my attention. We started as friends for a long time while we dated other people, even went on a double date once, then I moved away to China for a year and we maintained our friendship online. When I returned to the States, a romance quickly sparked. I did not have an apartment yet and was still traveling close to full time for work, so he gave me a key to his to have a place to stay when I was in between work trips. Let’s just say I never ended up renting my own apartment…” recalls Laurie.

After saying yes, I went to grab a bottle of champagne that Jon hid in the truck, only to meet a Forest Ranger notifying me that we were trespassing, but all I could respond with was that we were engaged! Thankfully the Ranger, not wanting to spoil our magical morning, left us alone with polite congratulations and a subtle threat that the local police might come. They didn’t and it was a perfect engagement.” They planned a Southwestern wedding at Hotel Luna Mystica for October 2nd.

“New Mexico and the Rockies hold a very special place for both Jon and I. Jon was born in Albuquerque and the rockies have brought a lot of joy to our relationship, since we are mountain bikers, rock climbers, and adventurers. There’s a certain emotion & ease to staying present when stargazing from the back of your truck on the Taos Mesa under the Sangre de Cristo Mountains that we wanted to share with our friends & family by bringing them to Taos.”

Ann & Clint Ann and Clint met in a classic romantic movie way, at the airport on a flight to Savannah, Georgia - their hometown, during the holidays. They met on the last leg of their flights, Clint , flying in from Denver, Colorado, and Ann, from Washington, D.C. Clint made eye contact with Ann, smiled, and lined up next to her at the gate, they started a friendly chat as they boarded ant then sat in their separate assigned seats. The plane landed in Savannah and Clint waited for Ann to deboard only to continue the conversation right where they had left off. They exchanged numbers and spent the next evening meandering through the cobblestone streets of their hometown. From that point on, they traveled the world together and eventually lived in the same city.

Clint is always surprising Ann and so she did not suspect anything when they arrived at their beautiful resort, the El monte Sagrado, for a Thanksgiving holiday. The next morning Clint insisted that they have a proper breakfast at the resort and Ann reluctantly joined him even though she couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t rather ski on the fresh snow that morning. Walking down to the dining area Clint suggested visiting the resort’s greenhouse. While there, he asked the resort manager to take a photo of them and as Ann leaned in to take the photo, Clint got on one knee, grabbed the ring from under the ferns and asked her to marry him. Ann said “yes” on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th - the same day they met in an airport six years prior. They planned a intimate elopement for exactly one year later in the same location.

“It is Vietnamese tradition to ask our ancestors for their blessing on our wedding day. We brought pieces of our alter and lit an incense and prayed to them on our wedding day. Without our loved ones by our side that day, we asked family members and close friends to write us a letter so we can read on our special day.”

taos wedding guide 2022 / rockymountainbride.com 49

“Unfortunate as it was that we weren’t able to celebrate in traditional fashion with a ceremony and reception with all our friends and family present to bear witness - indeed we had a large celebration planned - nothing was going to stop us from making a lifelong commitment to each other on the 7th year to the day that we met in an airport. This was not so much of an ‘elopement’ as it was just a safe, quiet ceremony, replete with our own wedding vows, a marriage license, and a beautiful wedding dress. What better place to do it than in the charming town of Taos where Clint proposed the year prior.”

As a designer, Ann was excited to focus on the details of a place setting for two, their timeless wedding look, and a relaxing stay at the same resort Clint proposed the year prior. She handmade her own jewelry and bouquet. The only vendor necessary for this small ceremony was a photographer. With a friendship that dates back to 2004, there is no other photographer Ann would be more comfortable with than her best friend and talented destination wedding photographer, Melody Adams who captured their day stunningly as well as their favorite moment, having their first dance under the full moon at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.
