Hello Darling! This Montana magazine is so special to me. In the past year, I bet I’ve driven over a couple thousand miles across this great state learning about each new place, the people that make it special and views that make it unforgettable. There are sunrises I’ve seen that I pulled over to try to soak in and sunsets over crystal clear lakes that mesmerize. Make them your memories! I’ve come across unexpected scenery and wildlife sightings that made me realize that I just experienced a “once in a lifetime” moment. These are all some of my most cherished memories that I hold so dear. It’s the quiet moments that Montana shows its rare beauty; it’s in those moments you begin to deeply fall in love with this place. This magazine is full of moments that will capture you in every way! Love stories that touch your soul, inspiration that makes your heart excited and a sense of adventure only Montana can give you. Montana is for lovers! Grab the one that holds your heart and go explore this great state. We traveled from Billings to Whitefish, and all the amazing places in between to create this for you! We hope this magazine is a guide of sorts for your wedding day and the adventure you create here with your love! Thank you so much for letting RMB help guide you to your dream wedding. We wish you a lifetime of love, adventure and wanderlust for the beautiful places we live!

Tera + Matt big sky

noelle johnson photography

Nine years ago, Tera and Matt met on a blind date in Seattle. Neither of them had ever been on a blind date before. The spontaneity seemed fun and wildly romantic! Though the night went well, the two were too young to fully appreciate the opportunity, and they ended up parting ways. A few years later, Matt reached back out to Tera and asked her on a second dinner date, where they spent eight hours together! The chemistry between them was like night and day compared to their first date. The couple was truly able to share what’s important to one another and peel back that extra layer. Through picnic dates with the dogs, to traveling near and far, Tera and Matt instantly fell in love. After two years of dating, Tera and Matt decided to vacation on Vancouver Island. The couple stayed in a gorgeous beach house right on the ocean. Early one morning, Matt’s dog woke Tera up. She sat up in bed and asked Matt if he wanted to join her for a walk along the coast. Secretly, Matt had been waiting for the right adventure to propose. Tera fell right into his trap! Hand in hand, the two met the low tide and rising sun. Shortly after sunrise, the fog rolled off of the ocean and the morning surfers headed for home. Matt grabbed Tera and asked her to dance. With the beach to themselves, the two swayed back and forth in the sand when Matt slowly got down on one knee. He asked Tera to be his wife. She said, “Are you serious? Of course!” They planned a timeless, Montana wedding for July 8th.

a love story worth sharing Tera and Matt incorporated a color palette of blush, neutrals, navy and greenery to achieve their mountain chic wedding. The couple also added lots of personal touches into their wedding decor. They decorated their reception tables with pieces of driftwood the couple saved from their engagement photo session on the beach. It meant a lot to them to tell their love story from start to finish in the simplest ways.

a river runs through it Rainbow Ranch Lodge was everything the couple could have hoped for in a wedding venue. The property was intimate and romantic. Not to mention, the scenery was breathtaking. The river that runs through the property provided them with the rustic feel that they wanted to incorporate into their theme. Most importantly, the staff at Rainbow Ranch Lodge made their special day completely customizable. Tera and Matt were able to provide their guests with a moment and an experience rather than just a large event. It was meant to be!

one tribe “Every single moment was electric. There must have been a certain energy or spirit present on our wedding day, because not a single one of our guests held back. People were truly able to be themselves. The feeling of love and joy was overwhelmingly surreal. It was almost as if we were one tribe.”

underneath the stars Matt coordinated a special surprise for the end of the night. For their final send off as newlyweds, Matt had his groomsmen gather everyone outside. The couple’s loved ones joined together to pour unique rocks and sand that Matt had collected on his and Tera’s travels together into one vase. After unifying, Matt and Tera walked through a tunnel of their guests under the night stars.

Devin + Mark bozeman

orange photographie

Devin and Mark met at a Campus Crusade summer camp in Lake Tahoe. Though they both went to Montana State University, they didn’t meet until week two of the ten week camp! Devin was instantly drawn to Mark and his heart. During one of the last weeks in Tahoe, the two spent an entire day together. Devin found herself at the end of the day only to begin a scavenger hunt back at camp. Six letters later she was at the beach where they had their first date. Mark was waiting for her with flowers, and he asked her to be his girlfriend! Fast-forward a couple years later, Devin came home to find another scavenger hunt waiting for her. Over two days of letters, her best friend helping guide her and one epic video Mark made of all the people she loves, he popped the question at Hyalite, her favorite spot in Montana! They planned a beautiful celebration of their love on July 21st!

Devin and Mark wanted their wedding to have a natural and Bohemian, modern feel that complimented the surrounding forest and mountains. They used natural tones with hints of evergreens and rose golds dispersed throughout to create the perfect look!

it takes a village “My favorite wedding detail?! MY OH MY! That is really difficult. Honestly, I loved every single detail, but the details wouldn’t have come together so incredibly if all of our family and friends weren’t there. My favorite detail was the people that came. The people that attended are family to us. Regardless if our guests didn’t know each other very well, we wanted everyone to feel like they were a crucial part of our family. That has continually been the response we have heard even six months following.”

wildflower “I chose Remy at Labellum to put together our lovely flowers. She is not only the kindest soul you will ever meet, but she is a creative genius when it comes to floral design. I knew we were going to jive together perfectly. I chose a multitude of colors and textures: mustard greens, oranges, deep maroons, eucalyptus leaves, and lots of feathers. I wanted it to appear as if you were walking along a riverside and picked up a bundle of wildflowers. On the day of, when Remy came upstairs to our bridal suite to drop of our bouquets, I was literally brought to tears by how gorgeous they were. I was so thrilled I gave her complete freedom. She completely read my mind and crafted my dream bouquet.”

advice to rocky mountain couples “My piece of advice for any bride and groom on their wedding day is to take five minutes, or even just a few moments, every hour of your wedding day to intentionally close your eyes, take a deep breath and soak up all the memories. This helped me stay present and be so full of joy my entire day. It’s true, the day goes by so fast, and no one can prepare you for that. But, you can take a deep breath of gratitude each hour. I promise you it will impact how you remember your day in the most positive, memorable and thankful way.”

Krystykka + Derrick roberts

capturing his creation photography

Krystykka and Derrick met through mutual friends on a Halloween night in Great Falls, Montana. Derrick has somewhat of a shy personality. However, when he saw Krystykka dressed up as Clay Matthews, a linebacker that plays for the Green Bay Packers, he had to introduce himself! The two connected immediately, and they exchanged numbers that night. Over the next few years, Krystykka and Derrick’s love story sparked and grew.Their love and careers eventually brought them to the state of Utah. The day after Krystykka moved down to join Derrick, the couple and some good friends planned a scenic hike in Park City, Utah. In the middle of their hike, Derrick grabbed Krystykka’s hand, got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. She said,“Yes!”The couple planned a rustic yet classic celebration with their closest family and friends on July 1st.

Rocky Mountain Bride Montana

heartfelt heirlooms It was important for the bride to incorporate vintage touches and sentimental family heirlooms into her wedding. Her grandmother crafts furniture out of old wine barrels, and Krystykka couldn’t think of a more personal décor piece. Instead of having their guests sign a traditional guest book, the couple’s family and friends left well wishes on a wine barrel! The wooden barrel now stands proudly in the entryway of their home. The couple will carry it with them and cherish the hand crafted piece forever.

the perfect match “While dreaming of the one, my only wish for my wedding day gown was that I wanted some fun sleeves. Other than that, I was completely open minded. One morning, I walked into Belle en Blanc and found my Lillian West gown within an hour. I couldn’t believe it! I adored the intricate lace details and the feminine, open back. My mom even teared up when she saw me, and she is not one to get emotional at a fitting. It was almost as if the dress chose me!”

promising forever “The day flew by, yet it was near perfect. It was humbling and moving to witness the amount of travel and time our loved ones were willing to take to support our marriage. Honestly, the only problem we experienced was running out of champagne in the morning, and we restocked! Everything I had planned and envisioned came to life. Promise forever with the love of my life – I would do it all over again tomorrow.”

puppy love Krystykka and Derrick have the sweetest English bulldog, Murphy. Of course, they wanted to include their fur baby into their special day as much as possible. Their custom cake topper showcased a sillouette of the two of them embracing as newlyweds with Murphy by their side. Looking back, it was easily one of their favorite details!

advice to rocky mountain couples “Start early and plan ahead. Most importantly, enjoy being engaged and sharing that special chapter together!”

Bailey + Andrew

suzana shambra photography

Bailey and Andrew met while attending the University of Montana Western. While they knew each other throughout college, they didn’t start to really get to know one another on a deeper level until Bailey moved into the house Andrew was living in. They became roommates for her last semester of school. Hanging out at home and grocery store shopping quickly became an excuse to spend more time together. A couple weeks later, both Bailey and Andrew knew that they were more than just roommates. The moment Andrew sat Bailey down and told her he wanted her in his life as a girlfriend, the two have been inseparable ever since. Months later, the couple went on a mission trip to Mexico where Bailey completely fell in love with Andrew and his heart for serving others. From then on, their love only grew! Andrew planned the best surprise proposal for Bailey. It was a little after their one year anniversary and the day before the Super Bowl. He set up a romantic dinner and movie for the two of them. However, when they arrived at the restaurant, all of Bailey’s friends and family were there! She thought for sure this was the moment. Everyone also kept using the word “ring” as much as they could which only made her anticipate the moment! Dinner and the movie happened, and yet no proposal. The next day they had family over for the Super Bowl. Andrew had Bailey’s sister keep her busy until halftime S’mores by the fire. As Bailey walked outside towards the campfire, she noticed a large group of people gathered around. In the middle of the group, Andrew was waiting for her on one knee with his great grandmother’s vintage ring. The two made it official on March 25th with an industrial, romantic wedding!

Rocky Mountain Bride Montana

real wedding

urban chic Bailey and Andrew planned an industrial chic meets black tie wedding! They incorporated a variety of textures (concrete, woods, brick, metals, and silk) combined with string lights, chandeliers, pendant lights, lamps and hundreds of candles. To accent the warm lighting, they used a color palette of champagne and neutrals.

the little white dress “I got my dress from Marcella’s Bridal in Spokane, WA. It was kind of a lucky experience. We had been dress shopping all day, and I called last minute to schedule an appointment at the shop. The owner, Marcella, answered the phone and scheduled us for her last opening of the day. When we arrived, she asked me what I was looking for in a dress. I showed her pictures of dresses I liked and shared with her things I love to do. It meant a lot to me that she wanted to get to know me before selecting gowns for me to try on. Sure enough, each dress she chose was 100% me. My mom and good family friend, Monica, refer to Marcella as ‘The Bailey Whisperer’, because whatever she said I did or agreed with. As stressful as dress shopping can be, it was nice to have someone else do the thinking for you! The dress I chose was her sample gown that she had just gotten into her shop a few days before. She altered a few things and then sent me out the door with it by 6pm that evening! To say her shop is amazing is an understatement.”

Rocky Mountain Bride Montana

delightfully diy Bailey and Andrew planned and created almost everything for their wedding by themselves or with the help of friends. Bailey’s mom is an amazing wedding planner and owns her own home decor store, The Vintage Home, in Missoula. She did an amazing job making their day perfect. She found all the lights, candles, rentals, and dresses. Every little detail she was able to perfect for Bailey and make her vision come to life. Bailey’s dad built the couple’s head table out of steel pipes and pretty wood, which now is the couple’s dining room table in their home. All of their family and friends pitched in to help decorate, craft the food, design the flowers, set up and clean up the next day! The couple felt so blessed by the love and support of everyone. It truly made their day perfect.

Rocky Mountain Bride Montana

real wedding

a little bundle of joy “The best part about the entire day was that Andrew and I had a little secret. We were 17 weeks pregnant the day of the wedding, and we only told our closest friends and family about it. It was fun that we got to share a special little secret together the whole day - as if we weren’t glowing enough already! At one point we asked Suzana, our photographer, to take a picture of us with our hands on our very, very small baby bump. In shock she said, ‘What!? I had no idea!’ That was fun for us to get to tell her in that way, and, of course, she took a beautiful photo of it - she is amazing.”

advice for rocky mountain couples “Plan without expectations. There were a lot of ideas and visions we wanted to incorporate, but never turned out. However, when it comes down to it, if you just go with the flow, and don’t expect your day to be ‘perfect’, it will turn out that way on its own.”

Shelby + James f l at h e a d l a k e

mackenzie keough photography

Shelby and James met in Bozeman through some mutual friends. From the moment they met, they knew there was something special about each other. The two fell in love while fishing, ice skating, hiking and spending time outdoors exploring Montana. It wasn’t long until James knew Shelby was the one! Shelby has spent summer vacations at her Grandparents cabin since she was a little girl. James knew it was her favorite place on earth and planned an epic boat ride proposal for Shelby. After spending the day on the water, James suggested the two take the boat out to watch the sunset. With lake hair and sunburned skin, Shelby was not expecting it! Surprised, she said, “YES!” The two started planning their wedding at the very spot the proposal happened! Friends and family gathered by Flathead lake on July 23rd to celebrate the new Mr. and Mrs. and danced the night away under Montana’s big sky!

embraced by nature’s beauty

Since James proposed to Shelby on Flathead lake, the two couldn’t think of a better place for their wedding. They adore adventuring together in the outdoors. While they were dating, they spent many hours together walking, hiking and fly fishing around beautiful places in Montana. The wedding was inspired by the beauty seen all around the cabin: the blues of the lake and the silhouette of the mountains, the oranges of sunrise and sunset and the green trees of the surrounding forest. Shelby wanted her friends and family to experience the love and memories of that special place and for them to feel surrounded by the beauty!

the perfect venue With the help of family, friends and Better to Gather Events, Shelby and James transformed her Grandparents’ property into her dream wedding venue. From the whimsy, hand-dyed fabric in blues and whites that swayed in the breeze behind them as they said their vows to the lighting of the hillside as guests danced the night away, it was beyond what Shelby could have imagined!

a nautical send-off

To close the celebration, the newlyweds ran through an archway of sparklers down the lawn, onto the dock and into their waiting chariot (or boat) with a “JUST MARRIED” banner flying in the wind. How fitting that the story started in a boat and ended in a boat on the breathtaking Flathead Lake!

advice to rocky mountain couples “At the end of the night, after all the planning, diy-ing, phone calls, and stress, you will still be married. That is the best part - committing yourself to the one you love while surrounded by people who love you dearly. Also, don’t be afraid to ask anyone and everyone for help. People are always willing!”

from the bride “Both Nick and I were nervous about the shoot as neither one of us really likes being in front of the camera. Kristin put us at complete ease, and we were laughing and enjoying ourselves the entire time. I asked Kristin to choose a spot that had mountains and trees. She recommended a spot near Luther. My favorite par t of the day was peeking at the first picture from Kristin. It was really hard to visualize what she was seeing and how we looked in the moment (I was convinced we were going to look extremely awkward!) However, the first picture just blew me away. I literally couldn’t wait to cherish the rest.”

by: labellum, a contemporary flower boutique

“Montana has become a very popular destination for weddings. Whether our couples are local or come from other states, the mountains, rivers and grassy prairies offer the perfect backdrop to say “I Do”. Choosing the right flowers to complement such natural settings is just as important as the location. As a florist and flower grower in Southwest Montana, most of our weddings take place in the warmer, summer months. We are able to grow and order from nearby farms a variety of gorgeous flowers. There is also a flower making a comeback this season, the carnation! It is no longer the flower of your Grandmother. We are planning on using heirloom varieties for our weddings next season. They are ruffly, have an alluring fragrance and come in all the right colors. See colors shift from white, blush and light pink vibes toward more moody tones like defused rich pinks mixed with muted deep purples. Centerpieces will be abundant and lush and styled in ceramic containers with an earthy look and feel.” floral
