EDITOR’S LETTER
Growing up in the Canadian Rockies, I looked towards the transition into the beautiful autumn season with great anticipation. There is something wondrous about the fall, a fresh start - a new beginning. I’ve always thought that the fall and winter are a magical time in the Rockies, when beautiful warm colours transition into sparkling white landscapes that are simply picture perfect. I never would have imagined when I left Alberta five years ago that I would have the honour of working with the talented creatives that make weddings and love stories in our region pure magic. I feel immensely blessed to have been able to stay connected to the place that will always feel most like home.

Calyx Floral Design is a floral design studio crafting the most astonishing floral arrangements with amazing creativity, style and attention to detail. Located in Red Deer, Travis Mills began her career as a 14-year-old student working part-time in a flower shop and her passion for flowers bloomed from there. To demonstrate different bouquet styles, Travis created two whimsical and natural bouquets, utilizing the same flowers and colour scheme. Burgundy, plum, peach and blush highlighted the contrast between the blooms creating a luxurious yet natural feel.

Timeless Glamour
Tulle & Tweed Photography, along with Beauty Bride Weddings and Bespoke Blossoms, dreamt up this elegant autumn wedding inspiration that boasted moody shades of burnt sienna, rich goldenrod and deep burgundy, with elements of lush velvet, slate table settings and feminine florals. The unique atmosphere of the Deep Cove Winery on Vancouver Island made the location all the more magical and romantic. The bride’s beaded blush-coloured Willowby by Watters gown was reminiscent of the roaring twenties, and the Great Gatsby class that characterized the era. The groom’s handsome ensemble consisted of a grey and navy tweed suit by Outlooks for Men, a chocolate wool overcoat and a detailed scarf and tie.

On one brisk Saturday morning in October, the pair followed suit with their usual ritual. What to expect from your engagement session “Have fun with it! This is the best time before your wedding to let loose, play around, and hang out with your honey and your photographer. Do something that makes you feel comfortable, and go somewhere that has meaning to you two. Trust your photographer, as they are there to guide you and make you look and feel your best.”

Early in their relationship, the couple spent lots of time at Dustin’s vacation home in Arizona. It quickly became their favourite getaway. Six years later, in their very favourite place with a number of close friends, the pair got engaged. Victoria and Dustin took a golf cart up to an elevated tee box to have one last look at the sparkling town below. When they got to the top, string lights trailing across the fairway reading “MARRY ME” came into view for Victoria. How to choose your outfit “Coordinate your outfits by choosing outfits that go together and stay on the same formal level. Embrace colour and patterns by picking one item of clothing and use that as a jumping off point for colours. Be comfortable and wear outfits that you feel the best in. It all started with a meet up at a ballpark in Airdrie and culminated with a picturesque proposal at beautiful Arrow Lake in B.C. How to make your engagement session personal to you “Pick a location that means something to you. I’ve done engagement sessions in pubs, bowling alleys, clients’ own homes, and even a movie theatre. Picking a location that fits in with your lifestyle and interests will not only make you feel more comfortable but will make it your own. Bring a prop for your session. This can be your pet, a fun hat, pizza, or even some beer! Adding a prop not only gives you some fun shots, but it also adds some creativity.”

Courtney and Keaton met while at bible school in Texas. For Courtney, it was something more than love at first sight - she knew that it would be a one-of-a-kind adventure for both of them. Keaton, with the help of Courtney’s sister and their photographer connected with BC Helicopters to plan the most romantic proposal. How to choose your photographer “Make sure to have a clear idea of the style you love. This will help so much in narrowing down the large selection of photographers in your area. Get to know your photographer! Your photographer is going to spend a large chunk of the day with you. Stalk them on social media and meet them for a coffee to make sure you like them. Inspired by the magic the fall season brings to the Rocky Mountains, Coco & Ash created a setting at Sundance Lodges filled with tones of deep rust, mustard and forest green. Their team dreamt up a modern, yet casual trapper tent wedding to evoke that feeling that you get on your last camping trip out in October. Here and There Web Studio fashioned rustic wood-inspired invitations that matched the outdoorsy vibe of the wedding. The elegant emerald hand stamped seals put the finishing touch on the paper suite.

Kristee + Travis victoria, bc
Margaritas seemed to signal every monumental moment in Kristee and Travis’s love story. From the pair’s first coupling to the long anticipated proposal, the fun drink always summed up the bride and groom. This meant that a custom margarita bar was necessary for the couple’s August 20 “un-wedding.” All 30 wedding guests took part in singing “On Paper” by Faren Rachels, the song that Kristee insists encapsulates the pair’s story to a tee. The McLachlans snapped stunning photos of the day and caught the joy and love that was on the couple’s faces as they proceeded down the aisle. Kristee, a wedding planner herself, envisioned moody jewel tones and an all-white dress code for their wedding, to accentuate the natural beauty of Malahat, B.C. The couple specially flew in their florist, María Limón, from Mexico, and Travis headed up most of the wedding decor to create a look of pure perfection!

One can call Kimberly and Bryton’s story a fairytale, or a sequence of scenes right out of a romantic comedy. Bryton was immediately smitten with Kimberly, upon first glance in the halls of Mount Royal University. He went from semester to semester carrying a note with him at all times, in hopes of running into his dream girl again. In the fall of his fourth and final year, he saw a Mystery Blonde Girl - now, we all know how the rest of the story played out. While vacationing in Paris, they got engaged in the famous Tuileries Garden and went on to get hitched in Calgary on September 20, the city where their romance started.

Azuridge Estate Hotel served as the most beautiful venue for Erich and Lauren’s dream November 4 wedding, after the couple won the hotel’s wedding contest! The couple’s spirit animal readings set the stage for their unintentional theme, “the fox and the heron,” with Erich as the fox and Lauren as the heron. Each guest received a spirit animal tarot card, which put a fun spin on the traditional wedding favour. The day was spectacular and magical with live music, the smiling faces of Lauren and Erich’s favourite people and of course the couple’s golden retriever puppy, Penny!

Tamara Jones officiated the ceremony and presented the couple as an official pair for the first time. Juan & Angie created memorable media keepsakes for the couple to cherish in years to come. A late night snack of pierogies paid homage to Erich’s sweet Polish grandmother, who could not be in attendance, and the tradition of midnight pierogies the couple started with her.

Sephra + James field, bc
Sephra and James got engaged at Spanish Banks, in an intimate moment filled with Landeau roses, champagne and a few of the couple’s close friends. It was one and a half years later that the couple tied the knot, with the help of Danielle from Something New. Much like their engagement, their February 1 wedding ceremony was a small gathering of 50 of their closest friends and family members. Looking back on their perfect day, the pair describes their wedding as rustic, cozy and inviting, with snow-capped trees and a thick blanket of snow outside. Snow started to fall minutes before the ceremony, turning Emerald Lake Lodge into a real-life storybook snow globe. Between the roaring fire, the flickering candles and the faces of Sephra and James’s loved ones, the entire day was one to remember.

Brittany and Tony started off their perfect May 25 elopement as early birds, watching the rain cascade down the beautiful mountains that surround the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Spending the day as just Mr. and Mrs. Roberto made their wedding all the more special and intimate. Each moment was romantic and relaxing, two words that sum up the pair and their one-of-a-kind love story. Harneet + Sim va n c o u v e r , b c
Travel had a way of working itself into Harneet and Sim’s whirlwind romance. The two had just come back from Southeast Asia, when they met online and instantly bonded over their mutual love for venturing to foriegn countries. Eight months passed between their meet cute and proposal, illustrating that their connection was kismet. In late December, Sim gave Harneet a scrapbook titled “Harneet and Sim’s Bucket List.” When our bride opened the book, she was met with the words, “Our Wedding,” and a sparkling engagement ring resting on the page!

KEEPING UP WITH TRADITION
While 2020 threw some curveballs, it was nothing that the couple couldn’t handle together. Harneet and Sim downsized their guest list, making it intimate and stress-free. One of Harneet’s favourite moments was getting married under the pergola that her father built for them. The bride and groom honoured Sikh tradition by having their vows recited to them, while walking around the holy scripture four times. Harneet and Sim had a storybook send-off in a dream getaway car, a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS convertible. They rode into the mountainscape with glimmering sparklers, glow sticks and their closest loved ones in the rear view mirror. Next travel destination for the couple? A getaway to Bali!

2 ounces Woodford Reserve 0.5 ounces Canadian maple syrup 3 dashes Angostura bitters 1 Twisted orange peel 1 Cinnamon stick
Directions Fill a glass with Woodford Reserve Bourbon whiskey, maple syrup, bitters and ice. Stir and strain onto a king cube. Garnish with a twisted orange peel and cinnamon stick!
