The Cover Story

lindy hickman photography The number one thing you want for your outdoor wedding is good weather! On the morning of the wedding, I sighed with big relief when I looked out of the window of the Manor House Cottage and saw nothing but blue skies and sunshine. By midday, the weather started to change. In the minutes leading up to the ceremony, all I could do was pray for there to be no rain, for the weather to start playing nice! As my walk began down the aisle my long cathedral veil, that I was so excited to wear, started whipping around so hard that my father had to latch on to it to ensure it would not randomly fly off my head! By the time I reached my handsome groom my veil was a goner. In fact, the wind got so bad that it was hard to hear the officiant in the microphone. Luckily it never rained, the wind was intense for most of the ceremony but in the moment when we started to read our vows the wind subsided and the sun peaked through the gray clouds. It was like God was shining down on our union. In that moment I realized that the weather didn’t matter, nothing mattered, except starting my new life with my best friend by saying “I Do!”’ - Sierrah & Matt, married July 20th

what makes you a rocky mountain bride?

What makes any woman a bride is finding their perfect groom. My life changed for the better when I met Matt. I was blessed enough to find my other half and I hope everyone has the opportunity to find that “one� that they can do life with.

And a little piece of advice, don’t stress too much about the wedding details like I did, as long as your groom is waiting for you down the aisle... well then everything else is just icing on the cake!

Heidi and Alex are high school sweethearts. They fell for one another at a very young age. When college came around, Heidi attended Florida State University, while Alex studied at Washington and Lee University in Virginia. Although the two were apart for their studies, their relationship only grew stronger through family ski trips and romantic reunions. Once Heidi graduated, she packed up and moved out to Los Angeles to be with Alex - finally! After nearly ten years of being together, Alex proposed to Heidi on New Year’s Eve at his best family friend’s home in Brentwood. Just before midnight, overlooking the sparkling, city lights, he got down on one knee and asked Heidi to spend the rest of her life with him. Of course, she said, “Yes!” The couple planned a cozy, winter wedding on March 17th in Beaver Creek.

colorado love While planning their special day, Alex and Heidi were inspired by their love of Colorado. The state is so special to them, because the two grew up skiing and making memories together in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Most importantly, Heidi wanted her stunning ceremony venue, The Beaver Creek Chapel, to be the highlight. She incorporated romantic, soft and ethereal touches into the overall design to complete her wedding day look.

under the night stars “After the ceremony, Alex and I escaped by snowcats for an intimate back country getaway. It was just Alex and I alone together as newlyweds under the night stars. The ride was peaceful and incredibly romantic. In that moment, we were able to reminisce on the day and dote on one another before starting our reception. It was by far my favorite moment!�

Charleigh and Jeremy met in Dallas in late 2015. They played at the same sand volleyball courts and quickly became friends. Multiple times, Jeremy considered asking Charleigh on a date, but nerves got the best of him. They spent six months just hanging out and getting to know each other with no intention of anything happening. But, as the two spent more time together, they began to know they had something special. Charleigh started really caring about him and was charmed by his character and by seeing how he treated people. She finally confronted him about her feelings and in just a few months they were official!

From there, things moved pretty quickly for these love birds. Jeremy moved to Denver for a job which helped solidify their relationship. Six months after the big move, Jeremy popped the question. He surprised Charleigh by flying his entire family down to Dallas and put together the most beautiful engagement party ever to celebrate their love! With roots in Colorado, the couple couldn’t think of a better place to say “I Do!� than on a crisp April 8th in Aspen.

They wanted to keep the natural beauty of the mountains front and center so they accented their wedding with soft neutrals, blush pink and nude. the last dance “We chose to do a ‘last dance’ of the night. It was after everyone had walked outside to light sparklers. It was just us, the musicians and the photographers left in the room. We danced to “Til Kingdom Come” by Coldplay (our very most favorite band). It was such a sweet intimate moment for us and we just danced close, cried, and felt so happy and relieved. I remember thinking ‘Charleigh, don’t ever forget this moment. It is completely perfect.’”

Alex has had his eye on Annie since his Sophomore year in high school. Within a month or two, Alex got the nerve to ask Annie to be his girlfriend. She agreed! The couple dated for no more than four months before Annie realized there were “stronger, more attractive fish in the Carmel High School sea.” The two parted ways. Fast forward 13 years to Annie living in St. Louis and Alex in Denver. Mutual connections brought the two back together under the guise of “single, shared history and lots in common.” So when Annie was scheduled to be in Denver for a work trip, they reconnected over dinner and had a blast. As fate would have it, a few weeks later, Annie had another work trip scheduled and reached out to Alex for a proper date. The rest is history! Within months, their relationship rapidly accelerated between cocktails and concerts, and Alex knew he couldn’t wait another 13 years before making things official. While in Steamboat for the holidays, Alex took Annie on a romantic winter hike and popped the question!

The two planned a mountain, modern wedding in Telluride on July 23rd.

They incorporated modern touches, fancied up the charmingly rustic tavern with a black tie dress code and paired deep, dramatic accents with natural elements.

new york inspired “I had a vision of the dress in my head. From the beginning of the dress search, I knew I was not going to find it anywhere. To save time, my mother and I went straight to a boutique that a family friend owned. I described my vision to her, and she agreed that I most likely would not find it off the rack.

She connected us with a custom dressmaker in New York City that worked for Modern Trousseau.

From there, we passed back measurements and sketches, and that’s how I got my dress! It came and it was perfect in look and fit.”

Amanda and Mark met one night in Denver while at a mutual friend’s birthday party. There was an instant attraction, and it didn’t take long into their first date for them to realize that they were two of a kind. In four years of dating, they have enjoyed fly fishing, rafting, entertaining and cooking every recipe from their stock of Bon Appétit Magazines.

While visiting Amanda’s parents house in Summit County before Christmas, the two went snowshoeing and Mark popped the question! Amanda said “YES,” and they started to plan a romantic, winter wedding on December 2nd that encompassed who they are in every detail!

dinner party vibes Amanda and Mark wanted their wedding to reflect who they are as a couple in almost an “eerie” way.

They wanted something modern, warm and organic. So they incorporated a color palette of white neon, white marble and black to create an experience their guests would recognize at their wedding. The couple’s love of hosting friends for dinner, Mark’s passion for cooking Italian food and Amanda’s eye for table design curated the perfect look and all came into play for their wedding. They wanted every detail to reflect their lives together. They had their college banners flying high as the couple walked back down the aisle, their dog’s face printed on the cocktail napkins and they served carefully curated meat and cheese boards before the reception for guests to enjoy.

the little white dress Amanda had a bridal shop as a client, so she was lucky to have a good idea of what she wanted for a dress.

She loved the designer, Tara LaTour, and customized a top to combine the styles of two of her favorite gowns. She finished off the look with blue velvet high-top sneakers!

She had gorgeous bouquets and boutonnières for their families, and the rest of the decor was fruit, vegetables and cheese. Amanda and Mark were able to donate, repurpose or compost nearly all of the “florals” after the wedding!

“We had a lot of details to really customize the day. My dad handmade cutting boards to place at every place setting, while my mom macramed a handle for each. Our friend and artist, Alli K Design, made a custom mountain sketch that adorned each favor and an enamel camping mug along with the calligraphy ‘I love you to the mountains and back’. I collected vintage drink stirrers to pair with our custom cocktail napkins, featuring our dog in a tuxedo. All of the dinner napkins also brought in an element of our favorite pup, ink-spot black and white to match Romo’s spots. As we walked back down the aisle, our guests waved our college banners, Texas A&M and Colorado, that my mom and I cut out and sewed together. Our families have played a huge role in teaching us what to look for in a partner. We had our parents and grandparents photos blown up to poster size and hung them in the reception hall.”

Melissa and Jason met through a mutual friend at Balboa Park December Nights in San Diego. The park was shut down to host outdoor libations and local connoisseurs. When Jason first caught Melissa’s eye, she thought to herself, “Who is this tall, dark and handsome man?” The two were attracted to each other right away. Conversation sparked while they sipped Glogg through the night. The rest was history! Melissa and Jason share an intense connection and chemistry, which helped them fall in love quickly. Being together felt right and exciting! The couple dated for a little over a year when they decided to embark on a new adventure together and move to Boulder, Colorado. Once they settled into their new home amongst the foothills, Melissa found out she was pregnant with their first boy, Zander!

Shortly after Melissa and Jason welcomed their baby boy into the family, Jason popped the question one morning at home. He got down on one knee and asked Melissa to be his wife. With no hesitation she said, “Yes!” They planned a romantic, fall wedding in Breckenridge on October 2nd.

We are Paul and Katie McPherson, a husband and wife photography and videography team. We thrive on loving our three beautiful children and keeping up with our family. We have a love for travel and adventure paired with great food and comfy beds. We enjoy music, Hulu and movies, especially cozied up with a bowl of ice cream on the couch together.

We’re goofy and a little cheesy. We love each other deeply and aren’t afraid to show it.You might catch us making out on the sidelines or in passing during a wedding. “Inspired by the spring after a long winter, I wanted to infuse that fresh and vibrant feel into a more romantic look. I loved how all the greenery and floral felt like they were growing up from everywhere! A color palette of muddy purple tones, apricot, hints of plum and white with lush greenery create a gorgeous combination, inspired after dreaming of it one night! Foraged floral and greenery gave the soft palette a more untamed and natural feel. A vintage bed, delicate intimates from BHLDN and Free People and a lovely bride completed the look!�
