Hello Darling, Fun fact: The ladies at RMB love to throw a good party! Whether it’s our team enjoying Pad Thai and sharing stories or hosting a cocktail hour for vendors we work with, our love for a good cocktail (preferably a dirty martini!)) and even better conversations runs deep. It’s in those moments when you are sharing a meal with someone that you slow down and truly connect. For this issue of Montana, we wanted to take that same hospitality and apply it to a wedding day! Creating moments and spaces where in the midst of the hustle and bustle of saying “I Do,” people are able to slow down and connect with all the loved ones around you. A wedding at its root is about two people becoming one, and families coming together, so make sure you plan a day that allows you to cherish those moments together! S TO RY “My husband and I are from two different states so when we first sat down to plan our wedding we decided we wanted a destination wedding, but not your typical tropical one. We wanted a place that was significant to us as a couple, somewhere we could return to often and share with our children. We ultimately chose Duluth, MN where he has a family cabin. With that being said, I knew I still wanted some sort of wedding photos of us in the Montana Mountains. I grew up on a ranch in the Gallatin Valley, so I spent the better part of my life surrounded by those mountainous shades of blue. My husband and I decided to have a first look photo session in the Bridger Mountains a few days prior to our actual wedding date. Kimi + Eric big sky
In 2011, Kimi and Eric met in The Peace Corps in Kyrgyzstan. They were in the same language group. Eric joined Kimi every morning for an early run - where he finally earned his first kiss with her! As expected, they connected deeply through the highs and lows of the unique experience. In 2013, both Kimi and Eric moved back to the states eventually calling Washington D.C. home. Fast forward three years later to Traverse City, Michigan where Eric’s family was vactioning off of the beautiful Lake Michigan. One morning, Kimi woke to find Eric’s mom in the kitchen shaking cocktails. Vacation minded, of course she grabbed a glass. Little did Kimi know that Eric had other plans for the two of them that day. After begging Kimi to go on a paddleboarding adventure, she finally caved. As the couple soaked in the calm and scenery lakeside, Eric pulled a ring from his swim suit and asked Kimi to spend the rest of her life with him. Completely surprised she said, “Yes!” The two made it back to shore safely, without losing the ring, to celebrate with their families. Kimi and Eric planned a destination wedding at 320 Guest Ranch in Kimi’s home state for August 26th.

wander with me It was important for Kimi and Eric to incorporate the places that were close to their hearts into their wedding day. Inspired by their roots, they had custom Michigan and Montana shaped escort cards created. As a nod to their travels and work, a Kyrgyz sign was hung above their sweets table that translated “Congrats, you found each other!” The perfect combination of local love and culture!

Emmy + Jeff bozeman

Modern love with a timeless story - Jeff’s life changed forever when he chose to swipe right on Emmy. From Shakespeare in the Park to drive-in movie dates, the couple hit it off immediately. Emmy fell for Jeff’s spontaneity and free spirit while Jeff couldn’t get enough of Emmy’s contagious smile. In March of 2017, the couple went glamping on an island off the coast of Baja, Mexico. One day they rented a kayak to explore the area. After a full morning of adventuring, Emmy and Jeff decided to dock up at the nearest beach to relax and catch some sun. Just as Jeff mustered up the courage to ask Emmy to be his wife, the wind picked up suddenly and their kayak started to drift away. In a complete panic they jumped up, leaving their belongings as well as the ring behind in the sand! After saving the kayak and settling back down, Jeff couldn’t find the ring anywhere. He started to casually pick up handfuls of sand without giving away his surprise. Finally, he confessed! Emmy and Jeff began their hunt for the lost engagement ring. A few minutes of chaotic searching later, Jeff pulled the ring from the sand and asked Emmy to spend the rest of her life with him. Of course, she agreed! The couple planned an intimate fall elopement in Hyalite Canyon just outside of Bozeman.

The couple enjoyed a short engagement as Emmy and Jeff always knew they wanted to get married in the fall close to home. It didn’t take long for them to fall in love with Hyalite Canyon as a ceremony location. The epic views, pristine elements and quiet surroundings were perfect. Emmy and Jeff’s closest family surrounded them as they became husband and wife.
the non-traditional bride
When Emmy envisioned herself as a bride, she dreamed of wearing a non-traditional, Bohemian inspired gown. She found her little white dress at Plume Bridal. The long sleeved, lace adorned gown was organic, comfortable and, most importantly, Emmy felt amazing in it.
the bison and the fox “Both Jeff and I are passionate about wildlife conservation and wanted to share our love with our guests in a creative and fun way. We gifted each of our family and friends a pint glass decorated with our names and spirit animals - Jeff a bison and I a fox! At the reception they were filled with MAP Brewing Company craft beer. One of my all time favorite details of the day!”

“We were all ready to dance the moment we walked into our reception. My nephew couldn’t hold it in any longer and started the party early by jumping in mid first dance! I don’t think we left the dance floor once!”

Kat and Jake met through a Christian mission organization in Colorado Springs four years ago. The two were friends for several years. Until Kat temporarily moved to Amman, Jordan to work overseas and received a text from Jake on her birthday, which was also his birthday! From there, the conversation never ended. Kat began crushing hard on Jake, but it wasn’t until she moved back to Colorado in December of 2016 to find that Jake shared mutual feelings too. In April of 2017, Jake may have pulled off one of our favorite proposals yet. As he travels often for work, Kat never thought twice about his “long awaited trip to Lebanon.” She dropped him off at the airport, kissed him goodbye and headed to a friends to babysit. Just when Kat arrived, her girlfriend passed her a note from Jake. He had planned a fun day for her! Her girlfriends led her from a mani and pedi, to lunch and finally up to Cheyenne Mountain. As they got out of the car to take pictures, Jake was waiting there for Kat on a blanket with a set picnic and flowers. He asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. Completely surprised she said, “Yes!” The couple planned a destination wedding at Crooked Antler Ranch, just outside of Missoula, on their birthday, September 9th.

Kat traveled back home to Chicago, where her family still lives, to go dress hunting with her mom and sister. The ladies went to over five local dress shops, yet Kat failed to find the one. That’s when she found BHLDN. In the shop, she tried on the classiest long sleeved gown adorned with the most beautiful lace. She immediately knew it was the dress she would walk down the aisle in.
the morning of “My wedding day was literally the best day of my entire life. The night before, my entire family stayed in the same cabin together, and the next morning we woke up slow and enjoyed each others company. I took my nieces and nephews down to the creek that runs through the property before getting ready with my bridesmaids. It was such a peaceful start to my wedding day. I wasn’t stressed out in the slightest. At that point I knew that whatever was going to happen would happen. Above all, I was about to marry the love of my life.”

Lindsay and Mike met through a mutual friend at work, a place neither of them were looking for love. Immediately after meeting Mike, Lindsay reported back to her friend that she was going to marry him one day. There was just something special between the two of them! On their first date together they drove up to the mountains. From that mini road trip forward, Lindsay and Mike knew that their coming together was fate and they began doing everything possible to make their lives one. One day the couple went out fishing at Seebee Dam and spent the day casting, at the base of the Rockies, with no bite (per usual). As they packed up their rods for the day, Mike reached into his pocket, pulled out a ring and said, “Well, I guess there is just one thing left to do. It doesn’t even matter that we didn’t catch any fish today, because I already have the best catch of all. Will you marry me, Lindsay?” The answer was obvious. The two planned an authentic, mountain wedding on top of their favorite Montana mountaintop for September 17th.

the perfect fit “Through countless searches and endless daydreaming, I always came back to one dress - The Remmington Gown designed by Mrs. Hayley Paige. I am the type of woman that once I have my mind made up about something it becomes my focus and I make it happen. After doing some research, I knew there was a boutique in Calgary that carried the dress. However, we quickly came to find that it was literally half of our wedding budget. For some reason, I just couldn’t let her go. It was the gown I pictured myself marrying Mike in. Back to the internet I went. That’s when I discovered a gal that had recently been married in the Hayley Paige gown. I took a leap and messaged her. Not only was she the sweetest, but our measurements were almost identical, and she was more than happy to see the dress worn again as she planned to sell it. We worked out the details and in just a few short months, I had the dress of my dreams in my possession.”

Vanessa + Drew red lodge

Vanessa and Drew already had heard about each other through mutual friends in Austin but never met until they joined the same intramural softball team one night. That game, whether it was Vanessa or fate, Drew hit two home runs! His parents happened to be visiting and were in the stands enjoying the game and saw the sparks between him and Vanessa. On the drive home Drews mom said, “hey who was the woman on Third base?” As they say, mom’s know best! The rest was history. The couple dated for three years before taking a huge leap together, and moving to Cody, Wyoming in search of mountain living and outdoor adventures. That next summer, Drew surprised Vanessa with a guided ascent with Exum guides, up the Grand Teton to a summit of 13,775 feet. The trip turned out to be anything but relaxing as they endured thunderstorms and graupel, a frigid night at 11,700 feet, Drew’s horrible muscle cramps and frozen feet and almost 5,000 feet of ice axes and crampons. After overcoming all of this together and reaching the summit, Drew still managed to propose, making for an unforgettable experience on top of the world! Vanessa said “Yes!” and the two planned a sponataneous Setpember elopment in Red Lodge.

the elopement story “We had decided early on that we wanted to get married surrounded by nature, and the Beartooth Mountain range was an obvious choice for us. Drew and I had driven the beautiful Beartooth highway about 10 days before the elopement, to scope out the spot. We camped overnight and had a wonderful summer night in the mountains. The weather from that point forward was beautiful. I had to fly to Denver for work and arrived back on the Thursday before the big day and the weather had taken a serious turn. Snow was expected at high elevations, then worse – the highway was closed, due to snow. So our spot we meticulously and thoughtfully picked was no longer an option. So with that in mind, we thought, well let’s get to Red Lodge, where we had dinner reservatons that night and go up into the mountains, working backwards. Drew went ahead to scout with his family and I stayed back getting ready with my family. Problem is once you get about 5 miles north of Red Lodge, you lose service. So my family and I made our way to Red Lodge (about an hr away) and I was going to meet my photographer at a coffee shop, and let her know about Drew’s quest to find the perfect spot.We anxiously waited there for probably about 20 minutes until Drew called letting us know he found the perfect location! The fact that I was hearing from Drew meant he was back in service range, so he had to climb the long and windy Beartooth highway, find a spot, and drive all the way back down just to be able to call me. We climbed up the highway winding around each switchback, and as we climbed the clouds got less and less dense, and you could see snowy mountain peaks in the far distance. Since it snowed so early, this was really a very rare view and the highway closed shortly after this day. The spot is called Rock Point Vista, elevation 9190’, and is a well-known stop during the summer months, usually over crowded with tourists, but this day it was just us,the chipmunks and the amazing view that belonged to just us!”
beauty in the snow “This is a tough question, but I think I just was so happy and relieved with how beautiful it was that day, even though the weather leading up to the moment was just about the worst weather you could ask for, cloudy, and zero visibility it was somehow so beautiful, and felt like the moment was just ours.”
advice to rocky mountain couples “This may be specific to my very chaotic day, but I would say anywhere in the Rockies, you can’t ever predict the weather. I would say you have to be open to any of the possibilities (even snow in September) and know that no matter what it will be beautiful. My September elopement worked perfectly as our Christmas cards/elopement announcement!”
