winter cover

A couple times every year growing up, we would drive down I-25 and make our way to where the land meets the sky. So many of my favorite memories are from those trips over the years. It was when I first began to feel at home in another place other than Colorado. This is something I still feel present every single time I cross that border, a special kind of homecoming that is truly inexplicable. In all honesty, I didn’t think my adoration for New Mexico could grow any stronger, but this past year has challenged that previous belief. Creating and dreaming alongside the incredible vendors featured throughout this magazine sparked something inside of me and made my heart grow even bigger with awe. I feel incredibly lucky to have guided this magazine into fruition and watched as it became a physical representation of the place I cherish most. I know that this year may have thrown previous plans out the window, you might still be waiting to celebrate your wedding, or perhaps you’re newly engaged and searching for a place to start. Regardless of where you are in your planning journey, my greatest hope is this magazine serves as a reminder that whether you have 100 guests or it’s just the two of you, you can still make your day a pure reflection of your partner and you. In these pages you will find inspiration no matter your style or favorite spot in the state. From north to south, make your way from the eclectic rehearsal dinner at The Stakeout in Taos to a dreamy wildflower wedding in Las Cruces set amongst the gorgeous Calhoun Flower Farms. Some of the sweetest gems of locations are scattered throughout this magazine and all offer a different take on a uniquely enchanting New Mexico wedding experience. My advice would be to sit down together on the couch with a glass of wine (or one of the craft cocktails featured in the magazine!), flip through every page and really look at each element to see what you both love. Go through the vendor lists and take a peek at each vendor’s work to see if they’re a right fit for you and your vision! This magazine was specially made with you in mind and a whole heck of a lot of heart behind it. In all the madness and unforeseen pivots this time has required, remember that your love story is the greatest gift and deserves to be honored as such.

In October 2019, Chainé Pena opened Chainé in the historic plaza of Santa Fe. Chainé’s passion for cooking started at a young age where the kitchen was truly the heart of her family’s house. From there, she went on to partake in a pastry program and eventually a macaron class in France. Chainé became enthralled with the idea that a simple cookie can be transformed into an entire dessert experience in just a few bites.

Yasmeen & Robbey / Carlsbad

While Yasmeen and Robbey grew up in the same town, the two didn’t officially meet until after college. Having numerous friends in common, Yasmeen and Robbey had been following each other on social media for a bit, when Robbey invited Yasmeen to come listen to him preach at his home church. The night was filled with nervous anticipation, and the two barely spoke a couple sentences to each other; however, both were absolutely enamoured by that first meeting. After spending a year of their relationship long distance, as both are missionaries in different parts of the world, Yasmeen and Robbey were finally reunited in California. Robbey took Yasmeen to Lookout Point in Laguna Beach, a place where Robbey used to go when he lived in California to pray for his future wife. There in the spot that held so much meaning, Robbey got down on one knee and asked Yasmeen to marry him! She excitedly said, “Yes!” as the pair’s family and friends jumped out from behind their hiding spots to celebrate with the newly engaged couple.

Jessica & Chauncy / Grenville Jessica and Chauncy met online and immediately hit it off! The pair talked every night for six months before finally deciding to meet in person. Chauncy invited Jessica to ride with him to a roping competition in Amarillo, Texas. While Jessica was hesitant to go because Chauncy seemed too good to be true, Jessica’s mom urged her that she couldn’t pass up meeting the “sweetest man in Texas.” When Jessica hopped in Chauncy’s truck and locked eyes with him, they both immediately knew they were each other’s person. Seven months later, Jessica planned a weekend full of cookouts and horse racing for the couple’s families to finally meet. After the ninth horse race and surrounded by family, Chauncy pulled off the biggest surprise of the weekend by proposing! The couple’s engagement shoot was set at Jessica’s family’s sixth-generation ranch.

Dana & Andrew / San Ysidro

Dana and Andrew met on New Year’s Eve, when Dana wandered into her best friend’s neighbor’s apartment and immediately spotted Andrew. During their junior year of college, Andrew transferred to the same university as Dana, and she eventually worked up the courage to ask him out. While the couple soon fell in love, time wasn’t on their side as both were set to go abroad in a few short months. Despite the distance, Andrew figured out a way to visit Dana in Morocco, and the two now consider that date their anniversary. Five years later, the pair was living in New Mexico and soaking up all the wonderful things the state has to offer from hiking among the red canyons to quiet mornings sipping coffee on their patio. Both Dana and Andrew are from Georgia, but New Mexico felt like the home they had been waiting for, and the home they chose together. After a hike followed by a picnic in a park, Andrew asked Dana to marry him!

While sitting next to each other, they chatted and found out they had a lot in common; Ali is a nurse, and Teddy was recently accepted to medical school. Even Ali’s sister from across the table could tell they made a good match and sneakily mouthed to Ali, “Marry him.” During the summer, Teddy visited his family in Ethiopia, Africa, which made Ali realize how much she liked and missed him. THE PROPOSAL For their two year anniversary, Ali and Teddy took a trip up to Durango, Colorado to go white water rafting. After the adventurous day, Teddy suggested they finish it with a hike in the Jemez Mountains. Once they reached the top of Jemez Falls, Ali took out her camera to capture the stunning scene as Teddy set up a dinner picnic. As they finished their meal, Teddy pulled Ali up and started to talk about their relationship and the love they share. He then got down on one knee and asked Ali to marry him, in which she responded, “Yes! Yes! Yes! Ali and Teddy planned a traditional wedding with a twist of Ethiopian culture for March 17th.

TWO BECAME ONE

“We wanted to incorporate some cultural traditions into certain parts of the wedding. During cocktail hour, we had Ethiopian music playing, and they performed their traditional coffee ceremony for the guests. During our reception, we also had some Ethiopian songs played, and it was so fun to watch everyone dance to them even if they were not from there.

Briana + Evan s a n ta f e

After being acquaintances through the same friend group for a few years, Briana and Evan truly connected ringing in the 2016 New Year. A few years later, the pair had already decided to get married without an official proposal by designing Briana’s ring together. One evening, Briana returned home late from work to be greeted by a completely transformed apartment filled with pink and white flowers, a sprinkling of rose petals, romantic candles surrounding a bubble bath and Briana’s favorite champagne. Amidst all the splendor, Evan got down on one knee and proposed! Briana and Evan planned an ethereal desert wedding for September 14th.

“It started to rain that special Santa Fe downpour type of rain about 45 minutes before the ceremony was supposed to start, which you’d think would have been the lowlight not the highlight, but it was truly a blessing. Something magical happens when your minute by minute wedding schedule is suddenly totally upended! It brings out the absolute best in everyone, at least that’s what we experienced.”

Elise + Brandon albuquerque

Elise and Brandon met while attending the same university. The pair’s paths crossed at the campus cafeteria, but they didn’t talk much until Brandon found Elise on Facebook. Eight years later, Brandon wanted to ensure the proposal was a complete surprise and ended up changing his plans last minute when Elise discovered his initial intention. Right after Thanksgiving, which happens to be Elise’s favorite holiday, the two headed to Jemez with some friends to cut down a Christmas tree. After selecting the perfect tree, Brandon got down on one knee and asked Elise to be his forever. Elise and Brandon planned a modern autumn wedding for September 21st.

M O U N TA I N T O P N U P T I A L S After some last minute change ups, Elise and Brandon ended up tying the knot on top of Sandia Peak at Ten 3 with just family before heading back to Elise’s parents’ house for a large tented reception. The mountaintop nuptials held a special place in Elise’s heart as her parents had met skiing decades earlier at the same spot.

Carly + Chris s a n ta f e

While Carly and Chris officially met in college, the pair didn’t start dating until after graduation when they were both back in Dallas, Texas. After four years of dating, Carly and Chris planned a trip to Santa Fe for Carly’s birthday. Chris insisted that he head there a day before Carly to drive out their dog and for Carly to meet them later by flying. In reality, Chris wanted to take the day to find the best spot to propose! Once the couple was together with their pup on the five mile hike, Chris proposed in the most perfect location! Carly and Chris planned a garden wedding for September 28th.

CERULEAN & FUSCHIA

Bold colors of cerulean and fuschia popped throughout Carly and Chris’s big day from the invitation suite and tabletop vases at the reception to the ranunculus and dahlias in Carly’s bouquet. These vibrant colors set the stage for the fun-filled wedding, including a vintage Mercedes that took the couple to the reception, a “tequila donkey” to welcome guests and dining under a lantern-lit tent with their closest family and friends.

Gianna + Jeffrey sapello

Gianna and Jeffrey met in an unconventional way. Jeffrey was working at an athletic shoe store at the time Gianna was training for a marathon. He fitted her for a new set of shoes, and the pair hit it off! After a year of dating, Gianna came home to the couple’s apartment and was met with a trail of tealights, rose petals and love notes written by Jeffrey. The final note said to go outside onto the deck where they had shared their first kiss. When Gianna opened the door, she saw Jeffrey dressed in a sharp outfit with a bouquet of flowers. He dropped to one knee and asked Gianna to marry him. Through her happy tears, Gianna said, “Yes!” Gianna and Jeffrey planned a casual fall wedding for October 18th.

Sara Jean + Matt las cruces

Sara Jean and Matt met on a rooftop in Seattle. Six years into dating, the duo set off for their nightly walk around their neighborhood. As they were walking, Matt pointed out a giant pinecone, which immediately excited Sara Jean because she loves pinecones. They went to check it out when Matt picked up the pinecone, opened it up to reveal a ring, and proposed! It took Sara Jean completely by surprise, and she happily agreed! The moment was caught on camera by the couple’s friends and future wedding photographers, Southwest Creative Co. Sara Jean and Matt planned a boho autumn wedding for November 9th.

Getting a manicure will ensure your nails and fingers are looking their absolute best as you show off your new engagement ring.

caporal captures photo + film

Having a professional photographer on hand to capture the moment you say “yes” gives you a keepsake to cherish for a lifetime.

This is a great time to show off your partner as well as your new ring. Cheers, you have officially been upgraded to fiancé.

While the bling is the number one focus of a #ringselfie, the background view is also important. Try a few different angles to get the ultimate shine from your bling.

To cast those stunning prisms all around, you need bright direct light. Move your fingers back and forth to create these dashing rainbows.

Add a filter from VSCO or Instagram to brighten any shadows and keep the focus on your ring. Our favs are Lightroom, KiraKira+ and Instasize!
