In British Columbia, you can get your marriage licence within three months of your wedding date, at any marriage licence issuer or Service BC location only.

Only one member of the couple is required to be present when applying for the marriage license, but they must apply in person and show proper identification for both parties.

Examples of proper identification include: a birth certificate, IMM/immigration form, permanent resident or citizenship card. A passport or driver’s license is only acceptable in some cases.

Your licence will cost $100, and is nonrefundable.

You must have at least two witnesses at your ceremony, in addition to the commissioner or religious official.

U.S. citizen? No problem! Canada, like the United States, has no legal residency requirement for obtaining a marriage license.

Allie + Troy Courtney Jess Photography captured Allie and Troy’s engagement amongst the fall colors in Cranbrook, British Columbia. Allie and Troy met through a friend nine years before their engagement in university.

They dated for seven years before Troy popped the question in Portugal. They went on a trip to the Azores and found themselves on the edge of a cliff called the sete cidades. While taking in the sights, Troy got down on one knee and asked Allie to marry him.

Kaytee + Scott Kaytee and Scott met while working for the WHL hockey league. She was the director of sales and marketing while he was a linesman for the league. He was known as a smooth talker, and after a couple months of one liners and harmful flirting, one night Kaytee was caught off guard when she handed him his envelope for that game night and he responded with, “Whoa Kaytee it’s light.” She thought that one of the girls might have left out his pay, and in a panic he responded with, “Yeah it’s missing your phone number.” She, of course, responded in laughter and just walked out, disappointed that she fell for his pickup line. The night continued, and as she checked to make sure everything was running smoothly, she noticed the white board that tells everyone the activities for the night was erased. All that was left was a hangman picture with enough spaces for Kaytee’s phone number. By the end of the night, she finally caved and as they say, the rest is history!

Scott proposed around Christmastime on a trip to visit his parents in Calgary. He begged Kaytee to go to the zoo, which she was hesitant about because of the Calgary winter weather. They ended up going and exploring all of the exhibits and decorations for the holidays. They ended their night by walking through the conservatory garden to admire the decorations there when Scott handed Kaytee a piece of paper with a hangman drawing long enough to spell “Will you marry me?” She immediately burst into tears as Scott was down on one knee and they still question if she actually said yes or not.

Kaytee and Scott planned a winter elopement with only their two best friends in attendance. They picked shades of pink and merlot to contrast richly against the fresh blanket of white snow. Their wedding day wasn’t exactly what they planned, as they had to cancel and reschedule multiple times due to the global pandemic, but they couldn’t have imagined a better way to start the new chapter of their lives together.

Katie + Alex Alex and Katie met in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan while Alex was doing his pilot training and while Katie was at University in Regina. They are both into doing anything active, especially mountain biking. Seven and a half years after they started dating, they went biking together at the Fernie, British Columbia Ski Hill and went for a small walk up to a viewpoint. While they were admiring the view together was when Alex popped the question!

They planned a bright summer wedding filled with beautiful moments throughout the day. It’s hard to pinpoint one favorite moment, but for Alex, his favorite part of the day was when everyone started walking down the aisle. Katie’s favorite moment was all of their families getting together and having their loved ones celebrate in one place.

While the photos weren’t taken on the mountain top as planned, they turned out perfectly. When eloping in the mountains you need to be flexible in your expectations, you really never know what type of weather you’re going to get, no matter what the weather app tells you. Safety needs to be a top priority while exploring in the mountains, and you need to know when to recognize that Mother Nature has different plans for you.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Flowers, flowers, flowers! Getting to work with natural products every single day is so amazing. We always feel very lucky that this is our full-time gig.

What is the one thing you wish you could educate your clients on?

We really do have the most wonderful clients, but if we could educate in anything, it would be the cost of flowers. There is so much going on behind the scenes to create the flowers for your wedding or event. The cost of flowers includes shipping, processing, labour and so much more!

What is your dream creation?

A destination wedding, somewhere hot and tropical, where we could create something out of exotic blooms. The more colour the better!

Where do you come up with your ideas?

Kelsey - I find so much inspiration in music and different vintage textiles/fashion!

Sarah - I always have a certain playlist for when I’m making my bouquets. Music has always inspired my creativity and fashion trends are a huge indicator of what’s next for flowers!

What is your favourite wedding season?

Spring and peony season has to be the best in British Columbia!
