MAKE IT OFFICIAL Marriage licenses are obtained from the Clerk of District Court’s Office Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm and no appointment is necessary. The license can be purchased for $53 with cash, a credit or debit card; checks are not accepted. The license can be used immediately or within 180 days from the date of issuance. It is valid in any county within Montana, but not in any other state or country.

After the marriage ceremony the license must be returned to the Clerk’s office within 30 days for completion.

Maleese + Fredrick Maleese and Fredrick went to highschool together, but did not officially start dating until after they both graduated.

They reconnected at a summer concert and the rest is history.

Seven years after they began dating, Frederick proposed at sunrise in the mountains of Montana. He flew to Denver and back in one day to purchase the perfect ring that Maleese had fallen in love with.

Niki + Luke

Niki and Luke met after Luke’s performance at the Rib and Chophouse in Butte. He sat down next to Niki and she asked if she could buy him a drink. Little did she know that Luke had seen her before the show and immediately was interested. He took his chance to introduce himself and the two quickly fell in love!

Luke proposed on the second anniversary of them meeting at the Rib and Chophouse. He and Niki had looked at rings, but she had not picked one out yet. Due to the lack of a ring, Niki thought that there was no way Luke would propose. He chose to take the sweet route and proposed with a watermelon ring pop.

Audriana + Karch Audriana went to a small summer gathering with a guy she recently met when Karch swooped in and stole her attention. They talked by the fire for at least an hour and Audriana was hooked. She told her friend that he had to be in her life, even if it was just as a friend. Thankfully, Karch felt similarly and the two started dating.

Karch received the ring to propose to Audriana at work so she would not see it. He was talking with a friend at work when he knew that he had to propose immediately. He showed up at the coffee shop where she worked at the time and knocked on the door. Audriana thought that she was being robbed as she could only see the bottom of Karch’s jacket. When she opened the door, there was Karch on one knee. She was so surprised at the time but knew Karch was the one she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.

Ally + Chase Ally and Chase went to the same highschool, but did not cross paths until college. Chase’s family moved to Maryland while Chase was still in highschool. A few years later, Ally and Chase ran into each other with a group of mutual friends and immediately hit it off. They like to think they did not meet in highschool because the timing would not have been right and that they met at the perfect time. Chase planned the perfect quiet proposal, which was perfect for Ally because she always told him she wanted a private proposal. She came home from work and Chase was in their living room on one knee with candles lit when he called their dog over who had a harness on with the ring in it.

They celebrated that night at dinner with Ally’s family.

Ally and Chase planned an intimate wedding at Foster Creek Farm for July 24th. They and 85 of their closest friends and family celebrated with a wedding weekend in Bozeman packed full of fun activities. Ally’s favorite moment of the day was when they did a venue reveal with their planner, Kate from Social Graces. They spent over a year and a half planning out the details and working with amazing vendors, so it was special to take a few moments to see their dream wedding vision come to life.

Dana + Jean-Marc Dana and Jean-Marc’s love story began on December 12, 2014. It was a beautiful night in Charleston, South Carolina when Dana decided to attend a cancer benefit. Unbeknownst to Dana, a young naval officer in a tuxedo saw her from across the room and knew he had to speak to her. Eventually, he noticed her speaking to a few mutual friends and seized the moment. After a few pleasantries and extremely smooth banter, Jean-Marc got her number. He invited her on a date the next day and Dana accepted.

Their engagement happened during the peak of the pandemic in April 2020. It was a bright, sunny day and Dana and Jean-Marc went on a walk to Central Park. He took Dana to the famous Bow Bridge in the middle of the park and proposed with a saxophonist played Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Their photographer jumped out of the bushes and captured the moment. Even in the middle of a mostly desolate New York City, they created their special moment.

PLANNED TOGETHER Planning a wedding in Big Sky while living in New York City was an adventure for Dana and JeanMarc. Their August 7th wedding day at Rainbow Ranch Lodge was their first big project together and showed that they could do anything if they put their minds to it. Jean-Marc was thrilled to get his Hatian family to the mountains of Montana and Dana’s family had a phenomenal time coming from South Carolina. They partied well into the morning with their favorite people in the world and loved every moment of their wedding day.

Much like their love story, Amy and John’s wedding was perfectly unique — starting with their welcome party. They wanted a fun way for everyone to identify how fellow guests knew the couple. To do this, they used a little bandana game, which was the perfect accessory for their BBQ, Western-themed party. Guests were instructed to choose a white bandana for knowing the bride, a black bandana for knowing the groom, or a red bandana signifying that the guest had met the couple in college.

BIG SKY BEGINNINGS

Despite them both being natives of Southern California, Amy and John’s paths didn’t cross until they both attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas during freshman year English class. Amy jokes, “I’d love to say it was love at first sight – but we didn’t start dating until the next year.” Amy and John bonded over a group ski trip to none other than the beautiful, Big Sky which is where they chose to say their vows.

The couple’s rehearsal dinner took place at the Spanish Peaks Mountain Club, a ski and golf community located in Big Sky. The couple’s family and friends celebrated their union at the very place they fell in love, surrounded by dramatic views of the Speak Peaks Mountain Range and a beautiful love story.

Amy described their overall wedding theme as, “classic with touches of playfulness”, which couldn’t describe the essence of their wedding more. She focused on a clean, crisp look but was sure to include small touches that felt personal to her and John. For example, because they traveled frequently during their 7 years of dating, they paid homage to their favorite travel locations with location-specific signage by Tailor and Tied. Another personal touch was their Tailor and Tied’s Beer Tap truck, which they called “Tabby’s Taps” - a reference to their beloved Catahoula, leopard pup.

S E N T I M E N TA L L O V E

Amy had dated John seven years prior to their engagement, making her excited and ready to start their lives together as a married couple. Their wedding took place on August 28th, 2021 on a beautiful day in Big Sky Bozeman, Montana, surrounded by family and friends.

Amy remembers her favorite moment of the day stating, “not to sound cliché, but my favorite moment was standing up at the altar getting to marry the person I love, surrounded by the people I love in one of the most beautiful settings.” Big Sky Bozeman holds sentimental value to the couple, as it’s the place they began their love story seven years prior. The couple chose to be wed here as an homage to their love story. Amy describes Big Sky Bozeman as “truly heaven on earth”.

Beth + Kris Beth and Kris met through mutual friends at work at an annual awards banquet. The two dated for four years when after two failed travel attempts, Kris finally popped the question on Beth’s 30th birthday at her favorite local Italian restaurant, Baroncini’s in Iowa City, IA. Beth had tasked Kris with telling her one nice thing every day during birthday week, and on the night of the proposal he told her he couldn’t tell her, he had to show her this one. Then he got down on one knee and the rest is history. The two planned a classic western elopement for October 11th.

“We decided to write our own vows and exchanged them during the ceremony. Listening to each other read these heartfelt words, certainly made for a magical moment. Also, right after the first kiss, our family surprised us and poured champagne for everyone. We had a toast with Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” playing in the background with snow flurrying in the air. It was amazing.”
