Wander at the Wetland: Full Moon Snowshoe & Hike: The public is invited to experience winter wonder during the Wander at the Wetland: Full Moon Snowshoe & Hike on Monday, January 13, 2025, 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Nygren Wetland Preserve (3190 W. Rockton Rd., Rockton, IL). Natural Land Institute (NLI) is pleased to present this free family friendly event that showcases the prairies and wetlands at their largest preserve, a 721-acre wildlife refuge and birding hotspot. Guests may come and go at their own pace during the event time. All ages will enjoy walking, snowshoeing or skiing on their own along a trail lined with hundreds of luminaries. The trail is under a mile and folks can warm up at the start of the trail with a bonfire and about halfway around it at the wetland bonfire. Guides will be stationed at four spots along the trail to share information about what they are seeing, to encourage guests to listen and look for signs of wildlife and to notice the full moon glow on the prairie and wetland. Luminaries are sponsored by NorthPointe Health and Wellness Campus. Snowshoes are sponsored by Rocktown Adventures and available to rent at the event for a $10 donation to NLI. Attendees may also bring their own snowshoes or skis. Refreshments such as hot cocoa, cookies and snacks will be available at the red barn where the check-in is located. This is a snow or no snow event and takes place outdoors. Everyone is encouraged to dress for the weather and wear boots. Registration is requested for this FREE event by January 12, 2025. To register visit the calendar at www.Naturalland. org or call the NLI office at 815/964-6666.
