UFO 2: Flying (sometimes simply UFO 2 or Flying; also subtitled One Hour Space Rock) is the second album by UFO released in 1971 (see 1971 in music) on the Beacon label; it was issued on CD in 1999 on Repertoire Records. This album is distinctive for its title track, which was among the longest tracks recorded in rock music up to that point and easily the longest song the band ever recorded. The track finishes with a backmasked reading from Rudyard Kipling’s Gunga Din: “Tho’ I’ve belted you an’ flayed you, By the livin’ God that made you, You’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din!” and a slowed phrase “Yes we know, it’s all been done before before before”. The album was reissued on the Flying, The Early Years compilation, along with all of the band’s other pre-Schenker work. New York-based Dust were one of the first “proto metal” bands to crank their amps to 11 and let it rip. Now the group’s seminal albums, 1971’s self-titled debut and 1972’s Hard Attack, are being reissued as a single CD and double vinyl (numbered for collectors) via Sony/Legacy. Featuring a stellar line-up, Dust included drummer Marc Bell (later christened Marky Ramone of the Ramones), bassist Kenny Aaronson (who played with everyone from Bob Dylan to Joan Jett), singer-guitarist Richie Wise, and lyricist-producer Kenny Kerner - both of whom would form a production team and producer Kiss’ first two albums.

Amazon Dust / Hard Attack Editorial Reviews Dust / Hard Attack LP (12 album, 33 rpm) Format: Vinyl

Marky Ramone’s (Ramones, Voidoids) 1st band Dust was a hard rock trio from Brooklyn New York that has been referred to as one of the first American Heavy Metal bands. 1970 was the start of the amazing and long careers for the three members of Dust. Kenny Aaronson (bass, slide & pedal steel guitars) has played bass for countless artists - Bob Dylan, Hall & Oats, Sammy Hagar & Neil Schon, Rick Derringer, The New York Dolls and the list goes on and on. Marc Bell (drums) better known as Marky Ramone, recorded the first Dust album when he was just 17 years old.

ROCK LEGEND NEWS AUGUST 2020 | LEGENDS

After his two year run with Dust, Marc went on to play with New York punk rock legends Wayne County and Richard Hell and the Voidoids, before joining the Ramones in early 1978. Richie Wise (guitar and vocals) is better known for his production skills. His work as the producer on Dust’s sophomore release Hard Attack, caught the attention of record executive, Neil Bogart (founder of Casablanca Records). Richie went on to producer Kiss’ first two albums (Kiss, Hotter than Hell) and the number one smash hits ‘’Midnight Train to Georgia’’ by Gladys Knight and The Pips and ‘’Brother Louie’’ by Stories. Dust released their self-titled album in 1971 on Kama Sutra/Buddha Records. Soon after the album hit the stores, Dust took to the road as the support act for Alice Cooper, Uriah Heep and King Crimson, paving the way for hard rock/metal bands to follow. Their second album ‘’Hard Attack’’ was released in 1972. Shortly after the album’s release, Richie Wise decided to switch gears and continue in the music business as a producer and Dust broke up. Over the years both Dust albums have been highly sort after by hard rock and metal fans all over the world. And now, over 40 years later, both albums have been remastered from the original analog tapes. Marky and Kenny oversaw the mastering for both albums, and agree, these albums never sounded...

The (original) Iron Maiden from 1969

An English pre-doom heavy psychedelic rock band with only one album called Maiden Voyage. The Iron Maiden: • Steve Drewett - Lead Vocals/Harmonica • Trevor Thoms - Guitars/Vocals • Barry Skeels - Bass/Vocals • Steve Chapman - Drums

YOUTUBE COMMENT: By: Richard and Cindy Van Huizen 4 years ago “There’s no formal relationship between the first Iron Maiden and the current one. The only thing that is known is that in 1976 Steve Harris received a phone call from another English person with different accent, threatening to sue them for using the same band name. The threat was never substantiated and became forgotten in the treasures of memory. In fact, Iron Maiden led by Steve Harris are in fact the third band to use the name “Iron Maiden”. Between 1970 and 1976 existed a second Iron Maiden, but nothing was released that is worthy of admiration.”

LIONHEART was formed in late 1980 by

Dennis Stratton (lead guitar/backing vocals, exIron Maiden), Steve Mann (lead guitar/backing vocals, ex-Liar), Rocky Newton (bass guitar/backing vocals, ex-Wildfire), Frank Noon (drums, ex-Def Leppard) and Jess Cox (lead vocals, ex-Tygers of Pan Tang). The band began playing gigs which included regular shows at London’s Marquee Club but had problems maintaining a consistent line-up. The core personnel of Dennis, Steve and Rocky remained but various singers passed through the band including Rueben Archer, John Farlham and Bob Hawthorn. They eventually settled as a 4-piece with Dennis and Rocky sharing lead vocal duties. The drummer’s stool was variously occupied by Les Binks (ex Judas Priest), Niko McBrain (ex Trust and subsequently Iron Maiden) and Clive Edwards (ex Wild Horses). Between 1981 and 1984 LIONHEART played regular live shows and supported both Def Leppard and Whitesnake on their UK tours. In between gigs they spent many hours writing and recording demos of new songs while searching for a record deal. It wasn’t until 1984 that CBS Records in the USA offered them a contract, by which time they had recruited Chad Brown on lead vocals. They flew to Los Angeles in March 1984 to record their debut

album Hot Tonight with producer Kevin Beamish (REO Speedwagon) and session drummer Bob Jenkins (Leo Sayer, Kiki Dee). The album was recorded at the legendary Sound City Studios in Van Nuys and mixed at Kendun Recorders. Upon their return to the England LIONHEART recorded a high-budget video for the single Die For Love. The late comic genius Rik Mayall played the part of the mad professor, which in later years achieved cult status on YouTube due in part to the wonderfully wooden acting of the band! Unfortunately, planned UK tours as support to Kansas and Foreigner were cancelled at the last moment. Promotion of the album suffered and LIONHEART found themselves in limbo. Chad Brown left the band in 1985 to be replaced by Keith Murrell, with his Mama’s Boys band-mate Toby Sadler coming in on keyboards. More demos were recorded with the new line-up but unfortunately the momentum had been lost and the band eventually decided to take a hiatus. Rocky went on to record backing vocals on 2 Def Leppard albums and join Michael Schenker with Steve, while Dennis spent 15 years with Praying Mantis. In 2016 LIONHEART was invited to play at the Rockingham Festival in Nottingham, UK and all

original members, apart from Chad Brown, agreed to it. Lee Small from SHY came into the band as lead singer and helped to elevate the band to a new level. The show created quite a stir, not least within the band itself, and it was decided to carry on with the subsequent recording of a new album followed by an acclaimed appearance at Sweden Rock.

“This is one of my albums of the year and came completely out of the blue. You need to check it out.” - The Rockpit, Australia “The Reality of Miracles is a true hard/melodic rock masterpiece.” - The Dirty Room

The resulting record, “Second Nature”, was created between November 2016 and May 2017 and was produced, engineered and mastered by Steve Mann in his own Flying Vivaldi Studio in Hannover. A mini tour of Japan with Praying Mantis took place in June/July with further UK shows with Airrace in November/December. The album was released on King Records in Japan on 21st June and on AOR Heaven throughout Europe on 25th August.

Genre AOR / NWOBHM

The latest record “The Reality Of Miracles” took 2 years to put together and was again recorded, mixed and mastered by Steve Mann in Flying Vivaldi Studio. LIONHEART signed a world-wide deal with Metalville Records who will release the album on 31st July 2020. King Records will be releasing the record in Japan and Korea on September 23rd 2020. Early reviews of the album are very positive:

Lionheart was originally formed in 1980 during the NWOBHM period and consists of current and former members of Iron Maiden, MSG, UFO and Shy.

WILD HORSES Were a British Rock Band, Active During the Late 1970’s and Early 1980’s

Wild Horses was formed in the summer of 1978 by ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson and ex-Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain. At an early stage, the line-up featured former Stone the Crows and Wings guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and former Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones, but eventually stabilized with the addition of drummer Clive Edwards (ex-Pat Travers, Uli Roth) and guitarist/keyboardist Neil Carter (ex-Wilder, Gilbert O’Sullivan). This line-up recorded the Trevor Rabin-produced eponymous album in 1980, released by EMI who signed the band after their 1979 Reading Festival appearance.

Carter left the band in August 1980 after the band’s UK tour with Ted Nugent in order to join UFO and later Gary Moore. His replacement was guitarist John Lockton (ex-Next Band, Red Alert) whose first appearance was on the band’s Japanese tour in the autumn of 1980 followed by the release of the Stand Your Ground album in the spring of 1981. In June 1981, Robertson and Edwards both left Wild Horses in the wake of the band’s Paris Theatre show in London. Robertson teamed up with Motörhead a year later and recorded Another Perfect Day in 1983, before moving on to join fellow Scotsman Frankie Miller on the Dancing in the Rain album in 1986. Edwards continued with a number of different acts, including Bernie Marsden’s S.O.S., Grand Prix, and Lionheart. Bain assembled a new Wild Horses line-up featuring Lockton, former Lautrec stepfather and son team, Reuben (vocals) and Laurence Archer (guitar), and The Def Leppard E.P. credited drummer Frank Noon. The Archers and Noon left only months later and went on to form their own band, Stampede, and Wild Horses ceased to exist, with Bain joining his former Rainbow bandmate Ronnie James Dio in Dio, while Lockton became a member of German hard rockers Victory.

WILD HORSES are: Jimmy Bain - Bass, lead and background vocals Brian “Robo” Robertson - Guitar, lead and background vocals Niel Carter - Guitar, Keyboards, background vocals Wild Horses members Laurence Archer and Clive Edwards were part of the UFO line-up that recorded the High Stakes & Dangerous Men and Lights Out in Tokyo albums in the early 1990s, before spending time in Medicine Head. After being involved with the reformed Stampede, Archer and Edwards launched X-UFO in the summer of 2011 along with Rocky Newton and Danny Peyronel. Both Wild Horses and Stand Your Ground have seen repeated re-issues over the years, the first coming in 1993 via EMI-Toshiba Japan as part of the ‘Legendary Masters’ series. European re-issues, including various bonus tracks, followed in 1999 (Zoom Club), 2009 (Krescendo), and 2013 (Rock Candy). On 25 February 2014, a bootleg quality Wild Horses live album, titled Live In Japan 1980, recorded at the band’s Nakano Sun Plaza, Tokyo gig on 29 October 1980, was issued via Krescendo. The same recording had first surfaced in 2012 as a Japanese bootleg titled Heavy Ride. Reservation, by the British rock band WILD HORSES, was taken from the self-titled debut album, co-produced with Trevor Rabin at Konk Studios in London, and released on 14 April 1980 on EMI Records.

IRON CLAW

From Dumfries, Scotland, Iron Claw shared the stage with some legends over the 54 months they were in existence, bands like the Kinks, Spencer Davis Group, Troggs, Pink Fairies, Mick Abrahams Band, Juicy Lucy, Barclay James Harvest and East of Eden. Times were hard, money was always tight, but sometimes the music was transcendental. Years active 1969–1974, 1993, 2010–present YouTube Comments Tony Coleby 4 months ago “I’m hearing sounds which would must have influenced The Cult’s ‘Black Angel’ and half of Iron Maiden’s debut album. EtArcadiaego 1 year ago “Sounds like Maiden riffs NWOBHM 5-10 years ahead.’

It all started when these boys, all around their 15s, attended a Black Sabbath performance in November 1969 at the Youth Club, when they were touring Sweden, at that time Sabbath had not yet released their debut album, but already had the famous “war pigs” in its repertoire, with lyrics totally different from the song officially released. Inspired by the Sabbath these guys started doing their shows, becoming the first Black Sabbath cover band, but as they were not happy to be just on the covers, they started working on their own record, so called vocalist Mike Waller. In 1970 they began recording the album, the band moved to London and recorded there in studios with the idea of recording an 8 track LP. The following year the band had a second meeting with Sabbath and this time they got access to the guys for a chat and asked Sabbath for help to launch their material for a label, Iommi and his troupe asked for a copy of the master that was given to them later when the members of Iron Claw traveled to Newcastle and had again with them. Later they were warned that the band threatened to sue them for sounding too similar to them. In mid-May, 71 vocalist Mike Waller decided to leave the band and so came the end of Iron Claw. Iron Claw, hard rock band from Dumfries, Scotland. Formed in 1969 by bass-guitarist Alex Wilson. Broke up in 1974. Reformed in 2010. First studio album issued in 2011. But Iron Claw finally broked in 2013. “...On January 15th 1971 at Edinburgh Empire, Iron Claw met Black Sabbath after their concert, and Sabbath agreed to listen to a copy of the Claw tape, which was duly supplied to them on January 18th 1971 after their Newcastle City Hall concert. ...Towards the Spring of 1971, word filtered back that Sabbath’s management was “unhappy” with the soundalike Iron Claw, and a veiled threat of litigation was mentioned if this first attempt was released.” (Rockadrome) Reference: https://www.classicrockforums.com/threads/iron-claw.27232/

Artist Biography by AllMusic DIRTY TRICKS This blues-based UK Heavy Rock, Acid Rock outfit was formed in 1974 by vocalist Kenny Stewart and guitarist John Fraser Binnie. With bass player Terry Horbury and drummer John Lee completing the line-up, they drew inspiration from Bad Company, the Faces, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. However, they never graduated from support status, as their attempt to bridge the divide between hard rock and heavy metal was handicapped by weak material. They released three albums on Polydor Records during the mid-70s that failed to reflect the energy they generated in a live setting. In 1976 Andy Beirne took over as drummer, but the band was soon overwhelmed by the growing punk movement. Beirne later joined Grand Prix, Terry Horbury teamed up with speed metal outfit Vardis and guitarist John Fraser Binnie was recruited by Rogue Male in 1984. Members: Andy Beirne, Kenny Stewart, Terry Horbury Listen Back Off Evil

The debut album from British hard rockers DIRTY TRICKS is long overdue a CD release not least of all because their sound perfectly bridges pure 70s hard rock and the NWOBHM sound that was to follow. Kenny Stewarts distinctive vocals and the wonderful guitar playing of John Fraser-Binnie helped set this band apart from their contemporaries. Originally released by Polydor records in 1975, Dirty Tricks is classic British rock with a hard blues-based edge. It is no surprise at all that, in later years, this excellent band has found cult status around the world-listen and believe! YOUTUBE: Ursprungsbo

The Flying Hat Band The Flying Hat Band were an early 1970s Birmingham, England hard rock act that, alongside Judas Priest, ranked as the Midlands’ favourites to succeed.[1] Despite not having released an album, the band proved a successful club act and eventually went on to support Deep Purple on one of their European tours. The band folded in April 1974 following Glenn Tipton’s departure to become the second guitarist in Judas Priest, who at the time had just signed their first record deal with Gull Records. Peter “Mars” Cowling joined Canadian rocker Pat Travers in 1975, and was part of Travers’ band for several years. Trevor Foster joined folk rock group The Albion Band and Little Johnny England.

& The Stooges - Dirt 0 HQ)

The Stooges, also known as Iggy and the Stooges, were an American rock band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1967 by singer Iggy Pop, guitarist Ron Asheton, drummer Scott Asheton, and bassist Dave Alexander. Playing a raw, primitive style of rock and roll, the band sold few records in their original incarnation and gained a reputation for their confrontational performances, which often involved acts of self-mutilation by Iggy Pop.
