FROM THE DESK OF A. BEYEL Dear Members, October…is there a better month of the year as to weather, football, local activities, our Great Course Conditions and hopefully, a continuing relaxation of the COVID 19 restrictions?!

As of September 11, the Governor established Phase 3 conditions such that we are able to increase dining and event capacity going forward, but remember that masks continue to be suggested and “common sense social distancing” is encouraged.

We have begun the final edits with our New Website and are proud to announce that it will go live within 2 weeks. Look for some exciting news coming in the next few days on your personal member portal login info. The RCC team has been working very hard on a modern update to your experience.

I am happy to announce we will be hosting our 59th Annual Platinum Coast Pro-Am beginning on December 5th. This event is very important for RCC to carry on for the local golf community and we aim to represent a great tournament for our participants.

On the Course The first hints of fall are finally arriving, and it is quite a welcome relief from the oppressive heat and humidity we deal with all summer. We are not out of the woods by any means, and tropical systems can still develop and create havoc. We recently had to close the course for a couple days due to excessive rainfall. When the course reaches its saturation point there is not much we can do except wait for it to dry out.

The fall cultural plans are in place, and we will be fertilizing and applying preemergents to control winter annual weeds. We will over-seed the tees once again to provide a nice rye grass base for winter play. Bermuda grass growth slows tremendously in the cooler months of fall and winter, so it is vital to protect the turf by avoiding and/or eliminating wear areas. We have embarked on a campaign to educate our players as to the importance of proper cart driving while enjoying your rounds. Employing course marshals, strategic signage throughout the course and written and verbal messages are all ways we will be addressing this issue. Your cooperation and understanding will be crucial to the success of our efforts.

Finally, the greens aerification process is complete, and we had some great weather that allowed us to move sand into the holes properly. We are approximately 2 weeks down the road since punching and starting to see improvement. This necessary evil is normally a 3-week healing process to achieve a decent surface.

It feels like the last of the summer heat has started to pass! A few cooler mornings are coming. You may have noticed some changes this week and moving forward with Florida entering phase 3 of the recovery plan. Food and Beverage Dear Members, I am extremely pleased that the Governor has loosened restrictions on our operation and entrusted us with maintaining a sensible and safe environment for our members and guests while dining and attending events.

With that responsibility we aim to continue offering a great 19th Hole experience. We love and appreciate our golfers and understand that you are our biggest supporters! Our Staff appreciates all of the great feedback.
