Dear Members & Guests,

Let me start by personally thanking everyone who came out and helped kick start the cleanup from Hurricane Ian. Words cannot describe the gratitude I personally feel towards those of you who jump right in to help. The long history of relationships I witness both on the golf course and in the clubhouse has always warmed my heart.

Who would believe eight years ago October that I would still be here, lol.

Through the ups and downs, I have encountered many who have made my job incredible. The golf business is as good as the greens roll, the beer flows and the people feel a part of it. Know that every one of your voice's matters, and if you feel unheard or have an idea that you would like to share to make your experience better, I am all ears. Sometimes things may seem out of my hands, but you have my word, I will openly take any outlook that betters the health of the club and furthers your experience.

Things take time, and rolling with change is constant, but sharing the same goal will get us there. Remember, the goal is “still” for Rockledge Country Club to be a premiere golfing experience for all that have the pleasure of playing here. In addition, it is a wonderful place to get married, a great place to celebrate the life of a loved one, and so much more.

NEWSFLASH: We are excited to let you know that we will be having a Thanksgiving Dinner event! Make sure to get your reservation as this will be a limited event.

Rockledge Country Club is growing, both membership and new staff. Ann Marie is winning over hearts in F&B. Mike Pryor is shaping up our golf department beautifully and Patricia is busy with selling events.

Membership, please note if you have had a problem meeting your F&B (food & beverage) minimum, we will need you to place your wine order no later than December 1. Ann Marie or Patricia can take your order. We will not be able to take orders after that date.

The business model has changed for the club after Covid as expenses across the globe have increased. We are no different than any other business and have felt those increases. Membership will also not be able to afford the discounts of the past and will feel a slight increase as of December 1, 2022. If you would like to discuss your membership, or how any 2022 increases will affect you personally, please reach out to Mike Pryor and he can discuss your options.

We are looking forward to a great season of golf. Soon, our northern friends will begin to join us for all the fun! Be sure to check those calendars for all the upcoming events! Don’t forget to try out Pickleball for another fun option this Fall at the club.

2022 Men’s Match Play Championship I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who is competing in the 2022 Rockledge Country Club Men’s Match Play Championship. This week the “pool play” portion of the championship will wrap up and bracket play will begin on Saturday November 5th with the Round of 16 – for those who advance through “pool play.” The remaining schedule is as follows: Round of Sixteen Matches Scheduled for Saturday November 5, 2022 Quarterfinal Matches Scheduled for Sunday November 6, 2022 Semifinal Matches Scheduled for Saturday November 12, 2022 Final Match and Consolation Match (to determine 3rd & 4th place) is scheduled for Sunday November 13, 2022 All Match Play Participants will play in a separate shoot-out event on Sunday November 13th and then attend the awards luncheon and presentation of the W.W. Brown Cup to the 2022 Match Play Champion.

Rockledge Country Club will be hosting the 2023 Ladies Match Play Championship in January and I would like to invite all ladies to compete in this new event that will be added to the annual tournament calendar.

Ladies Golf Groups Each week here at Rockledge Country Club we have several days where ladies get together to play golf and they would like for you to join them. While you are more than welcome to play anytime, this group of ladies gets together to play on the following days and the current group sizes can range from four to twelve golfers.

Tuesdays at 9:30 am Thursdays at 8:00 am Fridays at 9:30 am Saturdays at 10:20 am Times can fluctuate but we make every effort to try and keep this schedule consistent. You may know some of the ladies who play on these days, and if you don’t, they would love to have you come and join their group. I would be happy to make an introduction, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

2023 Florida State Golf Association Men’s and Ladies Inter-Club Championships Would you be Interested in competing in a team event representing Rockledge Country Club? The Florida State Golf Association’s Inter-Club Championship is an event that you should strongly consider. Please let me know if you are interested and I will be happy to contact the FSGA to sign up both Men’s and Women’s teams to represent Rockledge Country Club and compete against other club teams from all across the state of Florida.

FSGA Men’s Inter-Club Championship The Interclub season includes a six-week regular season, two rounds of playoffs, and a State Championship held at Innisbrook Resort - Island & Copperhead, April 18-19, 2023. The Interclub Matches are a state-wide competition between clubs. Last year over 150 clubs competed!

There is a $150 per team entry fee for Interclub; there are no greens fees for matches.

The most you will pay will be a member cart fee. Interclub allows players of a variety of skill levels to get together with friends and enjoy a fun and challenging competition at different courses around the state for a minimal cost.

FSGA Women’s Inter-Club Championship The 2nd Women's Interclub Season (2023) includes a six-week season, two rounds of playoffs, and a State Championship. This state-wide NET competition begins locally with matches against clubs in our area.

There is a $50 per team entry fee to join the FSGA Interclub. There are no greens fees for matches; however, the most you will pay will be a member cart fee. Playing in a team event can be one of the most fun competitions you can have in the game of golf. Just ask any of the players in the 2022 Inter-Club Challenge Cup – a local team competition between RCC, Duran, Viera East, and Baytree. The win this year was the third win in a row - congratulations!

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE

Hello again, everyone! It’s finally fall and I know that is a welcome time of year in Florida. Goodbye to the hot, sweltering days of summer, and welcome to the warm days and cool nights of fall.

Your golf course will go through changes as the weather turns. For those of you that prefer a faster ball roll on the greens, the cooler nights will slow down the growth of the Zoysia and the result is quicker green speeds. The rough won’t be nearly as “rough” for the same reason. There is a trade-off however. The cooler weather stops or severely slows down growth. This means any worn or weak areas will not recover very well. This is why we stress proper cart driving etiquette. The more traffic an area receives, the quicker it will wear out.

Overseeding of the tee boxes will take place sometime in November.

There will be some watering of the tees periodically throughout the day as we attempt to germinate the seed as quickly as possible. The newly renovated new tees will not be overseeded to eliminate competition. The new root system will fair much better without having to compete for sunlight, water and nutrients. However, the black tee on 6 and #11 tee will be overseeded. We had some setbacks on those tees, and they are not fully covered. We will overseed them in the fall then address the issues we have with those in the spring.

Finally, a big thank you to all the members who came out on a Saturday morning and helped with the cleanup from Hurricane Ian. Our damage was minimal but we did have a lot of debris on the ground. It was a huge help and we are grateful for it!
