Dear Members and Guests,

As we step into the vibrant month of June, I am delighted to share some exciting news and updates from Rockledge Country Club. Our community is buzzing with activity, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about the direction we’re headed. First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your patience and support as we undergo several renovation projects. It’s an exhilarating time for us. For approximately 2 Months, Holes 7,10,12 will be shut down and hole 5 will be played as a par 3.

Our driving tee received new sod on the tee surface which was installed on May 31st, and this week we will be sprigging the range floor and landing area. As we wait for the new sod and range landing area sprigs to take hold, we expect our driving range to fully reopen approximately June 11th hitting off the mats. We will also be bringing in some hitting nets which will allow players to be able to take some swings to get loose prior to teeing off. Our Short game area and putting green will be open as usual during this process.

The construction of our new retaining wall is underway on Hole #17. This pond project along with bank restoration and pond cleanup that has taken place on all our other ponds will greatly enhance our water flow and provide a visually appealing landscape. These improvements are all part of our commitment to the future of Rockledge Country Club.

With Father’s Day just around the corner, we have some special golf packages lined up that we’re sure you’ll love. Keep an eye out for the flyer detailing these exciting offers, it's our way of helping you celebrate the wonderful dads in your life with a memorable day on the greens.

I am also thrilled to announce our Wedding Expo, scheduled for July 14th. This event will showcase our beautifully renovated clubhouse and wedding site, featuring some of the best local vendors in the area. Whether you’re planning a wedding or simply curious about our new facilities, this expo is not to be missed.

Our Junior Camps kicked off this week, and it’s wonderful to see so many young faces eager to learn and enjoy the game of golf. If you haven’t already, make sure to reserve a spot for your junior golfer. It promises to be a summer filled with fun, learning, and lasting memories.

Don’t forget to sign up for our annual July 4th Scramble! It’s the perfect way to celebrate Independence Day with friends and family on the course. In addition to golf, Pickleball continues to grow with our range of activities. If you’re interested in learning this fast-growing sport, sign up with Keri Keen and join the fun. It’s a great way to stay active and meet new friends in our community.

Finally, a little bit of rain, heat and long days (sunshine). The exact recipe Bermudagrass needs to thrive. We are seeing very rapid healing of weak and wore out areas now that conditions are favorable for growth. Unfortunately, when most of our traffic occurs, the grass is in a state of very slow growth. We are generally warm enough to keep the grass a greenish color, but not warm enough to create any meaningful growth for recuperative purposes.

Our goal in the summer is always to create a healthy enough turf to withstand winter. Some turf varieties hold up better than others. We have a variety of many different Bermuda types on our course, and it is always the same areas that have issues with the cooler weather.

Our fairway and driving range projects are about to commence! Friday, May 31st is the scheduled day to begin sodding the driving range tee. It will most likely take a couple days to complete this. On Tuesday, June 4th, the fairway sprigging project will begin, taking about 3 days to complete. Once again, we will be sprigging holes 5,7,10 and 12 with a hybrid Bermuda called Tiftuf. Expected completion will be about 8 weeks.

A new retaining wall is in the works for hole #17. The old wall served its purpose well for many years and now it is time for a new one. Construction is set to begin soon on this project so stay tuned for more information. Goosegrass has once again reared its ugly head and we are attacking it with vengeance. This is a difficult perennial weed we deal with constantly. As the soil temps warm the goosegrass takes off. We do have a pre-emergent down to control new seedlings, but the existing larger plants are more difficult to control.

I will sign off with a new slogan. “Keep your carts on the path around tees and greens”. If everyone did this, we would have better lies around the greens during the winter season.

We are thrilled to be starting our course renovation projects this month and are beyond excited for what lies ahead in a couple months.

We have developed a temporary play schedule to allow for 18 holes to be completed, such as playing 2 balls on some holes to be able to record an 18 hole score. We have developed a special scorecard to use to help in this process, these will be available at the golf shop counter. According to the USGA, we will not be posting scores into the GHIN system while the course in under construction, so please do not post scores played at RCC during the temporary playing schedule.

We have partnered with two local courses for the summer, to allow for our Gold, Silver, and Bronze Members to enjoy reciprocal play if desired, which is often a nice benefit during green aerifications, etc. Members may play Savannah Golf Club on Merritt Island for a $24 cart fee, and may play Duran Golf Club in Viera for a 20% discount before 12:00PM and a cart fee only after 12:00PM. Simply identify yourself as a Rockledge Member when calling, or if you need any assistance, please see a golf shop staff member.

We are excited to report that our inaugural PGA Junior league team won the local championship! Several of our players will be advancing to the regional all-star team in postseason play. The month of June kicks off our Summer camp season for the junior players, we will be offering 4 camps this year, if you have children or grandchildren interested, please see the golf shop for details and signup instruction.

In the golf shop, we will be receiving a fun summer theme line of shirts from Bermuda Sands in early June and will be one of only a few local golf shops that stock Nike apparel and shoes coming h f ll
