Dear Members,
Spring is the air! What a wonderful time to be a member of Rockledge Country Club. What makes RCC so special is the warm, welcoming membership. The sense of community is not only recognized in the comradery between members but the positive member to staff interaction Thank you all for contributing to such a wonderful culture.
We are so excited to see all the momentum that 2023 is bringing. I am personally overjoyed to welcome all the new golf members and hope that each of you are enjoying everything Rockledge Country Club has to offer. Pickleball is on fire. We are so happy many of you are joining us for lunch. The event staff has been rocking the first quarter of the year. Let’s keep it up RCC!
Thank you to all the members who represented Rockledge Country Club in the Florida State Golf Association’s Inter-Club Matches. We hope that you enjoyed the competition and meeting other players from around the Space Coast.
This year “The Rock” is ready to roll with our annual Men’s Member Guest. It is such a fun time to be had by all. Before we even kick off the weekend, I must applaud my staff as they roll up their sleeves and help make this memorable experience happen .
We expect our new fleet of carts to arrive in April so be on the lookout for them. You won’t have to worry about your phone dying on the course as they are equipped with charging ports so that you can keep your phones charged during your round.
Don’t forget to adjust your clocks to “spring forward” March 12 and enjoy extra daylight, which means extra golf!
All my best, Andrea

It’s hard to believe that is almost been a year since I started here at Rockledge Country Club and I could not be more appreciative of everyone’s graciousness and hospitality as I was getting up to speed on things here
I am looking forward to continuing to enhance the golf experience here by adding fun new events to the calendar. As some of you may recall we added the Summer Sunset Series last summer along with the Men’s Match Play Tournament last fall.
• Congratulations again to Ron Ferrell and Ken Conrad for being the leading point winners in the Summer Series, and
• Congratulations to Matt Stevanus for winning the Match Play Tournament (which hasn’t been hosted here in nearly 10 years). We were able to present the RL Brown Cup to Matt as the Match Play Champion – this Cup which resides in the clubhouse was originally presented to Mr. E.L. Horwood in 1919 – a true piece of history from Rockledge Country Club’s early days here on the Space Coast. This trophy is being refurbished and Matt’s name is being added to a new custom base that will be attached to the Cup!
Some of my goals for my second year are to continue to add to the golf programming with new events for members and guests alike to compete and have fun. The calendar of events will include the following events:
• Men’s Member/Guest Tournament – March 9th, 10th, & 11th
• Club Championship – May 20th & 21st
• (New) Member/Member Team Event – June (Date TBD)
• (New) Apollo Amateur Championship – July 22nd & 23rd
• Men’s Match Play Championship – September 25th – November 11th
• (New) Platinum Coast Team Championship – September 23rd & 24th
• (Renewed) Beyel Ladies Invitational – October (TBD)
• Platinum Coast Invitational – December 16th & 17th

Look for other events to be added to the calendar – which will soon be available on the club’s website Along with the above event we will be adding back the Friday night couples, holiday scrambles/tournaments, and the Summer Sunset Series.
Management has recently approved an upgrade to our current Golf Genius Tournament Management system which will allow us to take event registrations online, manage event scoring to include live scoring with their tournament app, and track player participation throughout the year so that we can recognize a Player of the Year.
I look forward to being able to provide you with an update in next month’s newsletter as we begin to add event registration to our website where you’ll be able to sign up for events as soon as they are live on the club’s event calendar, as well as find results from the events as they are being played!
On a separate note, some of you may have noticed cones at 25 yards and 50 yards off the greens on the front nine on Saturday afternoons Those are tee markers for junior golfers that are participating in the weekly junior golf classes (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays) every other Saturday I host between 12 and 24 junior golfers for a 9-hole tournament I’ve created 28 new golfers (defined as a golfer who can shoot 36 from 25 yards off of the green), and several have progressed all the way back to 150 yards which means they have shot 36 or better from 100 yards.
I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone for their support (compliments, equipment donations, etc.) as I work to build a junior golf program here at Rockledge Country Club In addition to the golf instruction and Saturday afternoon 9-hole junior tournaments, the Club will be hosting the Florida State Golf Association’s ‘Florida Junior Tour’ two-day (36-Hole) junior golf tournament here in May and I am looking to add a “Platinum Coast Junior Invitational” later this summer!

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE
What a warm February it was! I believe it was one of the warmest on record. We recently put down a fertilizer and weed pre-emergent to the entire course The timing was good as the warmth will help allow Bermuda grass growth. We certainly need the Bermuda to wake up from its winter semidormancy as the traffic and cool nights have taken a toll. The turf gets a little thin in areas that receive heavy traffic, so any conditions that promote growth are most welcome! Oddly enough, when it heats up in the summer, we are not a fan of all the growth.
We have been removing a few trees around the course for various reasons. Some of them are dead, some are dying and diseased, some are dangerous safety hazards and some are simply overgrown and out of place. We will continue this process throughout the season as time permits.
The annual men's member guest tournament is coming up fast! We are working hard to have the course as nice and playable as possible. Mother Nature dictates the playability to a large extent, and so far, she is cooperating. As of this writing there were still a couple spots open, so if you are on the fence about playing, there is still time to get in on this exciting weekend full of action!
I want to bring to your attention some cart driving issues. We have rules that require carts on paths around tees and greens. These rules are in place to protect the turf while it is not growing much. I want to ask for your support, once again, to please observe these cart driving rules: Blue flag carts are required to remain 30 feet from greens. Pull carts should not be on top of tees or between bunkers and greens. These rules are pretty similar to what most golf courses ask of their patrons and help keep our course beautiful for you to play on To those of you abiding by these rules, Thank You! To those who are not, or who were unaware for whatever reason, we would appreciate your cooperation going forward. Thank you for helping us protect our turf!
Yours in Turf, Jerry
