TheinceptionoftheRockinghamCounty(RoCo) QuiltTraildatesbackto2015whenitwasinitiated bythePiedmontConservationCouncil(PCC), thankstofinancialsupportfromtheNorth CarolinaDepartmentofCommerce. CollaboratingwithRockinghamCountySoil& WaterandtheRockinghamCountyTourism DevelopmentAuthority(TDA),PCCworkedtobring thistrailtolife.Presently,RoCoTDAisthesole entityresponsibleforitsmaintenance.
Everyquiltblockfeaturedonthetrailholdsits ownuniquemeaningandstory.manyparticipants chosetheirinstallationwithspecialsignificance totheirfamily‘sheritage.otherblocksserveasa tributetoRoCo’srichagriculturalheritage, creatingacelebrationofthearea’sfarming legacy. Theself-guidedtourofthetrailallows bothresidentsandvisitorstoimmersethemselves inthescenicrurallandscapeofRockingham County.Thisincludesexploringhistorictobacco barns,vineyards,farmstands,andcountrystores alongtheway.
