Plus,there’salltheawesomesport,likethepulsatingPhoenixsmashingsixesalloverEdgbastoncricketground inthethrillingHundred.Ortheunforgettablelast-everBlackSabbathconcertrockingtheraftersoffVillaPark, andtheemotionallychargedfuneralparadeforourOzzywhichdrewthousandsontothecitycentrestreets. Trulyamazingscenes!

OneofPaul’shighlightssofarwastakingona majorcommissionforCoventryBiennial.In collaborationwithUniversityofWarwickprofessor GraemeMacdonald,thelarge-scalepiecetitled, MemoriesofaFutureCitycataloguesimagined futureeventsinCoventryleadingtothetransition fromfossilfueltocleanenergy.Itrepresentsthe dynamicsofenvironmentandtime,andtheforcesat playinenergytransition.Thecompletedpiece consistsoffourpaintedpanelssattogethertoforma

Notlikehislivelytechnicolourpiecestoday. Musingonthefutureandtheriseinpopularityof AI,Paulsays:“Icanseeitcomingoverthehorizon andI’mawareofthethreat,butIdon’tthinkAIcan replicateoils.Iguessscamsarepossible.”ForPaul, hisartisaspiritualexperienceaswellasphysicaland surelysomethingthat’ssafefromthemarchofthe techrevolution. ■

WONKYWALLS

Ourplumberannouncedhedidn’tdofloorsordecoratingbut recommendedpeoplehe’dworkedwithbeforewhichwasgreat. Havingsaidthat,tryingtoensureaccuratetimingsfordifferent tradeswastricky.OurhouseisVictorianandeverything’swonky, takesmoretimethananticipatedandthereforecostsmore.The addedtimespentonplumbingknockedofftheschedulewhich meanttheprojecttookthreeweeksratherthantwo.Nottheend oftheworldatall.

Werippedeverythingoutandstarted again,keepingplumbinglargelywhereit was.Wejustmovedthebasinandshifted theangleofthelootogiveusmore space.Itwasafairlysimplejobnot takingintoaccountthewonkyoldwalls andabodgejobbythepreviousowners. Thecostwasstillanarmandaleg,but thatseemsstandard.
