Economic Summit: Our Path Forward 2021 Embracing a new virtual format, the Chamber offered a virtual Summit on December 4, 2020. Chamber Board Chair and People’s Food Co-op CEO Lizzy Haywood welcomed the 250 plus attendees with a fulfilled promise of a content rich program. The program included economists from the University of Minnesota Extension Service, Gus Sauter, former Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager of the Vanguard Group, DMC Vice President and the HR&A Consultants, and Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank President Neel Kashkari. Below please find a section-by-section description of the Summit along with slides that were used by the presenters

SECTION ONE: Olmsted County Business Reaction During the Time of COVID Jennifer Hawkins, Community Extension Educator and Brigid Tuck, Senior Economic Analyst from the University of Minnesota Extension Service presented a summary of the findings they observed over the course of three surveys. We are very grateful to those of you who completed these surveys over the past months.

Click HERE for the slides SECTION TWO: Recovering from the Corona Collapse Gus Sauter, former CIO, Managing Director, and Portfolio Manager of the Vanguard Group, reviewed current market conditions, discussed the various federal aid package outcomes (relief vs. stimulus), and forecasted economic performance under various recovery scenarios. A very special thank you to Mr. Andy Chafoulias of Titan Investments and Development for inviting and securing the participation of Mr. Sauter.

SECTION THREE: DMC COVID-19 Impact Analysis & Recovery Scenarios Mr. Patrick Seeb, Vice President of DMC, moderated a panel of HR&A consultants, Erin Lonoff and Shuprotim Bhaumik. They reviewed their analysis of various recovery scenarios based on different medical milestones on downtown Rochester. These findings discussed various approaches to recovery planning and execution which will be valuable to both the private and public sectors.

SECTION FOUR: Townhall with President Neel Kashkari Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank President Neel Kashkari returned to the Chamber’s Economic Summit to share his insights and policy recommendations on recovery strategies. ABC 6 News anchor Betsy Singer moderated the Town hall.

Commissioner Sheila Kiscaden Receives Outstanding Service Award from the Association of Minnesota Counties Congratulations to Olmsted County Commissioner Sheila Kiscaden for receiving the 2020 Outstanding Service Award from the Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC). The award is presented to individuals who have exhibited exceptional leadership, participation, and service to Minnesota counties and AMC. Kiscaden has served as an Olmsted County Commissioner for eight years and was previously a Minnesota State Senator. Improving health, housing, and human services has been a mainstay of her career. She received the Outstanding Service Award at the 2020 AMC Annual Conference held virtually on Dec. 7.
