WE HAVE A DREAM Virtual Community Celebration Monday, January 18 | 10am - 2pm

“Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for JUSTICE. Say that I was a drum major for PEACE. I was a drum major for RIGHTEOUSNESS. And all of the other shallow things will not matter. I won’t have any money to leave behind. I won’t have the fine and luxurious things of life to leave behind.

But I just want to leave a COMMITTED LIFE behind. And that’s all I want of say.”

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrates the life and achievements of Dr. King. A social activist and Baptist minister, Dr. King played a key role in the American civil rights movement from the mid-1950s until his assassination in 1968. He fought for equality and human rights for African Americans, the economically disadvantaged and all victims of injustice. Dr. King, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, drove change through peaceful protest and watershed events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the 1963 March on Washington, which helped with the passage of the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act.
