Stories that Matter: Talent in Greater Rochester Powered by The 2023 Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 Awards mark the 37th annual celebration of Greater Rochester’s fastest-growing, privately-owned companies. The growth we’re celebrating tonight is made possible by the over 20,000 people that work tirelessly for our Top 100 companies, giving their all to help uplift their companies and in turn, our region as a whole. Each of these individuals has a story that matters, and they deserve to be celebrated for the role they played in shaping the story of our community. Finding and developing the talent that powers these organizations has never been more critical than it is today. Every day we hear stories of labor shortages from our members. While the Greater Rochester region is not exempt from struggles and broader trends in the economy, this community is also uniquely suited to continue to grow and innovate in spite of them. Our area has long been a hub for innovation across industries. The people who call Greater Rochester a home maintain the entrepreneurial spirit and innovative nature that has been present here since the 1800s. Our region has the infrastructure in place to continue to develop a new generation of talent. Nineteen colleges and universities call Greater Rochester home, leading efforts on technological breakthroughs and creating civic thought leaders. We are rich in workforce development opportunities to bring new talent into our region, retain what is here, and continue to expand the labor pool and workforce pipeline to better meet the needs of businesses. Investments are being made in our future, and our community is attracting national attention to propel us into a new era of success. Each of the companies being recognized today is enabled to succeed because they are investing in their talent and developing leaders. As we consider our workforce opportunities and challenges, it is important to broaden our view of talent. Our labor force is strengthened by “hidden talent” that has historically been sidelined. Being intentional about an expanded view of diversity and inclusivity of people with all kinds of lived experiences is an important step towards changing the labor shortage we’re facing. Celebrating people who make a difference is what the Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 Awards is all about, and that includes all Rochesterians who have the ability to uplift our region through their unique skills and value. All 20,000 employees for the 100 companies on our list are people who have challenges that they have overcome, and stories that matter. Their personal and professional growth fuels the growth of their companies and communities. These are the people who are coming together and finding solutions to problems of all sorts. Each individual win contributes to the broader synergies of our region and creates a win for us all. Thank you to the talent in our region, past, present, and future, for helping to shape the Greater Rochester region into the hub for business and personal success we all know and love.

Bob Duffy Greater Rochester Chamber President and CEO

Honoring the Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 each November is the premier opportunity for celebrating business growth in the Greater Rochester/Finger Lakes region. As the region’s number one resource for talent, advocacy, and business support, this annual celebration of our fastest-growing, privately owned companies is one of our all-time favorite occasions. This year marks the 37th time we’ve come together with our top local business leaders to celebrate their successes and contributions to our community. The Top 100 companies are some of the most powerful economic drivers for our Rochester region. They are the fastest-growing companies thanks to their leadership, employees, and customers. Despite the many challenges facing business in Greater Rochester and across the globe today, they are thriving and growing – and they are creating jobs and economic growth. We are grateful to our Top 100 companies for making the Rochester region so successful. The Greater Rochester region has an entrepreneurial spirit and spark that continues to garner attention from around the country. In August of this year, Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse submitted a joint proposal to earn federally designated Tech Hub status as the NY SMART I-Corridor (Semiconductor Manufacturing and Research Technology Innovation), bringing us one step closer to realizing the 2019 prediction by MIT professors Gruber and Johnson that this Upstate NY super-region is poised to jump-start America’s economy. The PGA Championship brought hundreds of millions of dollars in economic impact and hundreds of hours of international media attention to Rochester. Thanks to these efforts and so much more, Greater Rochester Chamber programs like CampusROC, Veterans Connect, and Greater ROC Remote continue to engage and attract record numbers of talented individuals to our region. The 2023 Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 companies employ nearly 13,000 people in the Greater Rochester region and employ over 7,000 more across the country. This year, these companies generated over $5.4 billion in revenue, creating an undeniable impact on our regional economy. The companies and executives here today not only inspire us to keep growing, but also showcase the ways that our local businesses contribute to the vibrant, diverse, and innovative community that we live in. I want to extend a big thank you to all of tonight’s sponsors who made this celebration possible and are investing in business growth. Thank you to ESL Federal Credit Union for their ongoing support as our presenting sponsor, our reception sponsor M&T Bank, and KPMG for their continued partnership in tabulating results. Additional thanks go to premier sponsors Paychex and Waste Harmonics, our program partners, 13WHAM/Fox/CW, Audacy, CMI AV, Floreano Convention Center, and all of our corporate and supporting sponsors. Finally, congratulations to each of the outstanding companies on our Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 list! Each of these organizations is uplifting people through personal and professional growth opportunities, providing great service to customers, and contributing to the vibrancy of our community. You should all be proud of all your accomplishments, which are helping to propel our entire region to a new level of success and acclaim. Enjoy celebrating tonight with your teams - it is well-earned! Cheers to our 2023 Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100, and here’s to continued growth and innovation in 2024!

Jay Green KPMG Rochester Office Managing Partner

Recognizing Outstanding Achievements and Contributions We are thrilled to gather once again to honor the achievements of the 2023 Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100. Although the list of companies is constantly evolving, the total revenue for the 2023 Top 100’s most recent fiscal year exceeded $5.4 billion. This measurement period (2020 through 2022) includes a significant portion of the pandemic, and the stories behind the numbers reflect how our region is adapting to new or changing opportunities in the marketplace. For example, 54 companies on the 2023 Top 100 list were not included in the previous year’s list, including 12 of the top 20. Only 16 companies have made the list for the past five years, and even fewer (3) have made it for the past ten years. This highlights the remarkable consistency required to remain on top in Greater Rochester’s competitive business community. Regarding industry representation, construction (+8), manufacturing (+6), wholesale/ distribution (+4), and technology (+2) companies outperformed service (-11), financial services (-6), and retail (-1) businesses on the 2023 Top 100 list. Construction companies comprised four of the top ten, which certainly is a bellwether for future growth in the region. Lastly, we always look forward to the “nominations received” metric to gauge how companies in the Greater Rochester area feel about their success. We are delighted to report that nominations increased by 4% from the previous year. The future looks bright for our business community, and we wish everyone continued success in their endeavors.

GreenSpark Solar It is an honor for GreenSpark to join many incredible local companies once again as a Top 100 Fastest Growing Company. Congratulations to all nominated companies, especially our partners, Heritage Christian Services, who have used solar to amplify their mission and growth by investing their energy savings back into their organization in the form of increased employee wages. We are proud to be amongst companies that propel growth in ways that benefit people and the planet alongside profit. The good news is, data shows that when weaving social and environmental missions into business models, companies will experience greater results. According to McKinsey, “financially successful companies that integrate environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) priorities into their growth strategies outperform their peers...The message is clear: not only can you do well while doing good- you can do better.” Additionally, many consumers and investors are now associating green businesses with lowered risk around regulations and carbonrelated costs, making the reward for companies improving ESG even more tangible. The B Corp certification allows GreenSpark to easily convey to customers that we abide by a triple bottom line of People, Planet, and Profit. The third-party certification, run by a non-profit called the B Lab, is awarded to businesses that meet ever-evolving social and environmental accountability standards. In Rochester and beyond, the B Corp business community continues to grow as companies realize that investing in their employees, customers, community, and environment makes profits greener. Solar offers a cost-effective solution for businesses to reduce operating expenses drive revenue growth, reduce their carbon footprint, and achieve overall greater results. We look forward to electrifying more Rochester regional businesses with solar in the future.

Conifer Realty, LLC 585.324.0500 • WWW.CONIFERLLC.COM The United States is facing an affordable housing crisis. This pressing situation forces many people to choose between a quality, affordable home and meeting other basic needs such as food and healthcare. But Conifer Realty is changing the housing landscape for the better. “The challenge is more widespread than many people realize,” said Conifer Reality president Sam Leone. “You can earn a strong income and still have a hard time finding a realistic place to live. We’re here to change that.”

3

The nationally ranked, full service real estate company has developed more than 21,000 affordable, high-quality, apartments across more than 300 residential communities. Here in the Rochester area, Conifer developed and manages more than a dozen properties including the Erie Harbor, 200 East Avenue, and the iconic Park Square. Conifer also manages a half-dozen other properties across Monroe and Ontario Counties. Founded and headquartered in Rochester, NY in 1975, Conifer now employs more than 500 team members with other offices in New York City, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Leone says that to continue to be recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies after nearly half a century in business is a testament to Conifer’s ability to continually evolve and remain relevant. Leone attributes much of Conifer’s success to its expertise across multiple disciplines and the company’s unique, one-stop service approach to real estate which combines development, construction, management, marketing, finance, legal, tax credit compliance, accounting, and ownership services. Its partnership with LeChase Construction enables the company to offer the full spectrum of property development and management services. Perhaps the most important key to success may be the quality of the Conifer team, the passion they bring to their jobs every day and their commitment to a positive resident experience. “We keep the resident at the center of every decision we make,” said Leone. “From the layout of our homes, to the amenities we provide, to the shops and services nearby, we want our residents to feel part of a community.” Conifer strives to create a “home for possibilities” for both its residents and employees. For residents, this means providing a foundation to create memories, build careers, foster friendships, grow families, and support neighborhoods. For employees it means providing a workplace where you are respected, appreciated, inspired, and challenged. “We are proud of all we’ve accomplished in Rochester thus far. We are now building on that passion, entrepreneurial mindset, and community spirit as we continue to expand to other markets across the whole eastern seaboard, from Maine to Florida,” Leone said. “Everyone deserves the opportunity find an affordable, warm, safe, comfortable place to call home. I’m so proud to lead a team that is rising to meet that challenge and helping to address this national priority.”

Conifer is a national leader in community transformations through partnerships that create and preserve affordable homes.

Faraci Lange, LLP Faraci Lange was founded by Angelo Faraci over 50 years ago with Paul Lange joining the firm a decade later. They stressed a client-centered approach that has continued to the present. The firm’s mission has always been to provide competent and ethical representation to those injured through negligence or use of defective products. For many years, the firm’s clients were principally referred by lawyers and judges familiar with our work and former clients who had benefitted from our services. In this way, Faraci Lange became recognized within the bar as the premier law firm of its kind throughout western New York. In 2000, Faraci Lange took on several environmental contamination cases, and this practice area has grown markedly since. The firm is now recognized as a leader throughout the state, successfully resolving cases for hundreds of clients injured through exposure to environmental toxins as well as entire communities adversely affected by contamination of drinking water. Through our cases we have established legal precedent that has benefitted thousands of New Yorkers and will benefit thousands more in the future. In spite of our growth into new practice areas, we have never changed our approach to providing individualized services to all our clients while maintaining our reputation for competency and ethics throughout the legal community. In fact, the firm received an ethics award from Elevate Rochester in 2019, undoubtedly a first in our practice area, which is often maligned as a result of aggressive advertising and other tactics to secure clients.

OPTIMAX 1. W hat does it mean for Optimax to land on the 2023 Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 list? This is of course an honor to be named to the Top 100 list that distinguishes so many companies for their growth and success. Optimax has been privileged to be on this list for a number of years and this affirms our continued growth at a rapid pace that makes us proud of our company, being part of the Rochester business community, and most of all, honored by this recognition.

2. To what do you contribute your company’s sustained growth and success? For us, our success can be found in our mission – customer success and employee prosperity. These are the two pillars that the company was built on and continues to grow and be successful by. It is our people and culture that help drive innovation and success, and our customers that are part of the booming optics and photonics industry that continues to flourish. Optics play a significant role in our everyday lives and Optimax focuses on the high-end delivery of optics that go into applications that are challenging and require manufacturing but also an engineering skill set, which is a unique service we provide.

2. What are some challenges your business is facing, and what have you done to adapt? Continued growth can be a challenge, both from finding the right people to hire and growing from a small to mid-sized business. Optimax started in a barn more than 30 years ago with just a handful of employees and today we are more than 400 employees in a 120,000 sq. ft. facility that is continuing to expand both with headcount and facility size. We see this growth as our greatest challenge and success as we continue to expand and move forward into the future.

A SPOTLIGHT ON A WOMAN-OWNED BUSINESS LEADER Q & A with Kimberly Jones President and CEO, Butler/Till 1. W hat does it mean to you to be a leading woman owned company in the greater Rochester community? We are honored to be a leading women-owned/led company right here in Rochester. Butler/Till has been a certified women business enterprise (WBE) for almost 20 years and as WBE, every day we are focused on creating not only an inclusive and equitable workspace, but community and world. This recognition proves we do not just define who we are, but rather work towards being a partner that our clients, employees, and communities can be proud to work alongside, by providing the opportunity to align themselves with an organization that stands for positive and inclusive change—while driving business transformation.

2. How have you overcome any challenges associated with being a woman owned company? The work to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive world is never done. Founded in 1993, MSM Inc is a Rochester-based, WBENC certified, woman-owned business that creates brand experiences for tradeshow exhibits, permanent installations, and customer events. We are thrilled to have once again been named to the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce Top 100 list of the fastestgrowing companies in the area. This recognition comes at an especially meaningful time for MSM, as we celebrated our 30th anniversary in May. Much has changed in three decades, but MSM’s commitment to our clients has not. Our current client base includes a mix of long-term partnerships (some of which we have partnered with for 30 years!), as well as new customers. As a full-service experiential partner, we empower brands to better connect with their audiences through one-of-a-kind experiences and transform their event marketing initiatives into flawlessly run programs. Our approach has resulted in accolades from major industry experts, and long-term partnerships with leading brands, such as PepsiCo, Johnson & Johnson, Ferrero and RingCentral. Our recent growth is due in part to expanded offerings in customer experience and interactive engagements. We have expanded our UX/UI capabilities to increase the breadth of offerings we can provide to our clients. Every project we support begins with our team conducting extensive research on the client’s target audience. By carefully analyzing and crafting attendee profiles, we are able to create highly tailored customer journeys to allow our clients to reach their customers with more impactful moments.

We recently worked with Gatorade to develop a customized experience for one of their key shows, CPSDA, a show that attracts thousands of dietitians in collegiate and professional sports. Our research showed that this specific audience values resources on diet, nutrition, and hydration, which is why we partnered with the Gatorade team to create a custom in-booth activation. The attendees were given the opportunity to create a custom notebook, personalized with their choice of cover, paper, and included specific resources/reference guides. This personalized experience resonated with attendees and generated increased traffic and true ROI for the Gatorade team. In addition to our tradeshow specific work, we have also significantly grown our business within the Rochester area. We are proud to partner with local colleges & universities such as the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, St. John Fisher University, Nazareth University on bringing their brands to life on campus and within their student space. The past thirty years have been filled with great work for our clients, exciting advances in our industry, and a team of employees whose dedication, talent and work ethic are unmatched. We are proud of our current growth and look forward to seeing what the future holds for our organization.
