NY Forward: Guide to Reopening

The New York Forward plan to reopen New York State focuses on people getting back to work and easing social isolation without triggering renewed spread of the virus or overwhelming the hospital system. Click here for the full book of New York Forward guidelines.

New York Forward Business Reopening Safety Plan Template

Each reopening business must develop and post on site a written safety plan outlining how its workplace will prevent the spread of COVID-19. A business may fill out this template to fulfill the requirement or may develop its own safety plan. This plan does not need to be submitted to a state agency for approval but must be retained on the premises of the business and made available to the New York State Department of Health or local health or safety authorities in the event of an inspection.

Affirming Obligation to Operate in Accordance with New York Forward Guidelines

As industries become eligible for reopening, individual businesses must electronically affirm that they have reviewed and understand their obligation to operate in accordance with New York State guidance for reopening activities and operations. Click here for an example of the business affirmation form.

a message from the future leaders advisory council 0 24

As we reach the second anniversary of the creation of the Future Leaders Advisory Council (FLAC), we’ve come to our first leadership transition. Alanna Stage (Paychex) and Joseph Sayre (Simon Business School) will be taking the reins from Chelsea Conway (Beam Mack Sales & Service) and John Loury (Cause + Effect Strategy) to continue to drive the mission of the FLAC forward, which includes:

• Representing the voice of young professionals to the Greater Rochester Chamber Board of Directors, staff, and membership as a champion of visionary and inclusive leadership.

• Furthering the organization’s mission of passionately serving, promoting, and advocating in order to secure economic prosperity for the Rochester/Finger Lakes region.

• Fostering ongoing learning opportunities to support the success of diverse young leaders, and engaging in solutions to pressing business and community issues.

Chelsea and John’s work over the first two years has built a phenomenal foundation for us moving forward. Some of the accomplishments in the first two years include further strengthening the CLIMB program curriculum, building and implementing a mentorship program for Rochester’s future leaders, and developing and spinning off the CampusROC initiative.

In its third year, CLIMB again brought together young members of the Rochester/Finger Lakes business community to learn and grow together, making connections and acquiring insight that will help them ascend to new heights of leadership and success. Through a cutting-edge exploration of the regional economy, including intimate conversations with CEOs and executive teams, participants learned the strategies that fuel the success of these organizations, and now better understand the opportunities and challenges in the regional and global marketplace. Participants were also joined by community and political leaders, and received yearlong personalized leadership development from The XLR8 Team, focused on the critical internal foundation that allows great leaders to motivate and inspire. New to the program this year, the FLAC Mentorship committee designed a curriculum that matched CLIMB participants with executives from the business community, forming a partnership designed to explore specific leadership challenges and foster a two-way dialogue between seasoned and emerging leaders in the Rochester/Finger Lakes region. We believe that the relationships formed during this program will continue to endure and enrich the experience of all participants as they continue in their careers.

The CampusROC initiative was born through the FLAC in August 2019, with the mission of driving economic growth in Rochester by retaining the talented individuals that graduate from our local colleges. This initiative was able to gain traction and has been absorbed into the ROC2025 working groups focused on economic growth. CampusROC will utilize a robust internship program and social schedule to show college students that Rochester is the place to live, work, and play post-graduation.

Going forward, we will continue to drive the FLAC mission forward through a variety of avenues. Our first effort as co-chairs will be focusing on re-imagining the CLIMB curriculum for 2020-2021 with an emphasis on virtual sessions, given the uncertainty we face over the next year. This new virtual curriculum aims to take advantage and make the most of our “new normal,” incorporating the unique growth opportunities the CLIMB program provides participants, such as incredible access to our area’s leaders, experiential learning, leadership development and one-on-one executive mentoring with flexibility.

Next, we will focus on building the FLAC’s ability to represent the voice of young professionals in the Greater Rochester area by building an advocacy arm. This advocacy arm will listen to the important issues of Rochester’s young professionals and then dissect these concerns through interviews with business leaders, community leaders, and elected officials, sharing their thoughts back with the young professional community.

We are extremely honored and excited for what the next two years will bring as we take over from Chelsea and John, and will do our best to further the mission of the FLAC.

Thank You, Alanna Stage & Joseph Sayre
