There’s no doubt that 2020 has been a year to remember — but if anything, we learned how precious time can be. Our future depends highly on what we do with today.

So let’s use today to start something new, help the next person in line, and come together... even if we’re physically apart.

It’s easy to look at this past year, and feel discouraged.

When 2020 began, I don’t think any of us had any idea what was in store. Last year, we all have seen death and despair, social upheaval, but also kindness and courage beyond measure. We saw emptied animal shelters, huge leaps in equity and inclusion, innovations in how we interact with our fellow humans around the world, and a greater appreciation for an outdoor hike,or a quick road trip with the family.

Here at Time Timer we did small acts, and different donations. Let’s hope that this year will be better and we hope that you were able to find small ways to make every moment count in your own families, and we greatly appreciate all of our loyal customers and fans that have stayed with us.

Almost 30 years ago, Jan Rogers was a busy mom with a curious kindergartner. Her daughter routinely asked questions about time: “How much longer? When will we go?” So, she began to sketch a solution to help children visualize time. What followed was meetings, patent applications, and endless hours of assembling and shipping the Time Timer on her own.

Eventually, solopreneurship turned into a team effort, and the vision of “being able to see time” traveled around the globe.

Today, the same Time Timer Jan sketched on that legal pad can be found in classrooms, homes, therapy centers, restaurants, conference rooms, and factories worldwide.

We, the Time Timer team, could not be more proud of the ingenuity, creativity, and dedication that Jan devoted to her business and her team over the years.

INTRODUCING THE TIME TIMER WASH

A TOUCHLESS VISUAL TIMER FOR HANDWASHING

5 Seconds: Wet Hands and Apply Soap

Being clean has never been so important. The Time Timer WASH helps keep our kids safe with a touchless, water-resistant visual timer for handwashing. Its familiar disappearing disk, paired with the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and WHO (World Health Organization) recommended scrubbing duration for clean hands, gives people of all ages and abilities an easy-to-understand resource for ensuring their hands are germ-free. Perfect for the classroom, the bathroom, or the kitchen.

The WASH counts down for a total of 30 seconds and breaks hand washing into 3 simple steps:

20 Seconds: Scrub Hands

1. Soap (5 seconds), 2. Scrub (20 seconds) 3. Rinse (5 seconds) It can be initiated without touching by simply holding a hand in front of the Timer.

5 Seconds: Rinse and Dry

Music and sound can be switched off and on.

The sound can be used to help reinforce steps or the WASH timer can be run silently for sound sensitive environments. Requires 3 AA/1.5V batteries (not included).

Germs, Germs Everywhere!

Use this activity to help kids understand the importance of proper handwashing!

Pour a small amount of each color of glitter into its own separate tray or plate (one color per tray). Ask your child to place the palm of his/her hand into their favorite color of glitter. Then, have the other person do the same but in the other color of glitter.

With your glittered hands, shake hands with the other person.

What do you see on your hands? (The colors of glitter combined on each person’s hand). You SHARED the glitter!

If you can, find another person to shake hands with. What happened? (The mixed glitter also stuck to the new person’s hand). Now, the glitter has been shared again!

MATERIALS NEEDED ❑ At least 2 people (child and at least one additional person) ❑ At least 2 different colors of glitter* ❑ At least 2 small paper plates or plastic trays ❑ A few toys from around your home or objects from your classroom (those which can be easily cleaned) ❑ Soap, water and paper towels *If you are unable to use glitter, you can try washable paint, flour that has been colored with powdered tempera paint, or salt mixed with food coloring.

Talk about how the glitter is acting like germs. When we get germs on our hands, and then touch someone or something else, the germ is passed on to others. This is the way germs are shared with other people, even when we don’t see them.

Talk about how you can now get rid of the “glitter germs?”

The best way is to wash your hands really well with soap and water. The doctors say that we should scrub our hands and fingers for at least 20 seconds. Help your child time themselves while they scrub.

Note: Using the Time Timer WASH, is a great way to help children understand the amount of time needed to wash their hands thoroughly.
