REJUVENATING MARKET

RURAL EDUCATION VILLAGE Sustainable rural education and skill development campus. This research will give an answer to the existing problems in rural India in terms of education.

Site Selection Criteria Location- where to implement the project?

Any rural area near the Mumbai – Pune region was the region I wanted to address. In this region there are lot of Ghat Sections and tourist spots. But there were quite a lot of areas that I could find with the issue of lack of education facilities in the nearby vicinity.

Site/Land – Site available to Build In this process of searching site, I came across a proposed school project in Bhajgoan village, in Mawal taluk of Pune district. The site of 13Acres of land has been allocated for this

project.

Demand – Is there any requirement?

Based on my study, the nearest school available for the kids here are more than 25km away. From the contextual study, there are around 350 children within a radius of 15KM.

AREA STATEMENT Site selected is located in bhajgoan village in mawal taluk of pune district. Lack of availability of schools within 25km of radius. 25km is beyond the walkable distance thus the scope of residential school is open. There is no vocational training centre present in the considered area. A small-scale production unit parallel to vocational training institute will help the students to get revenue from it.

PROGRAM DERIVATION

The objective of this project is to design a school in a rural context which is not just a primary school but go further to become relevant to the people around it. The campus has to be used by the localities not just the kids but also elders by serving them different functions. Thus, the campus might turn into a community space for the locals and letting their kids to study in school without any anxiety. Hence the following are the basic outline of the area requirements.

Shape Analysis Site Structure The complete site is divided into two by the village road running through it. The two main functions are divided in on the two side of this road. The school block is placed on the northern part of the site and vocational training centre is placed on the southern part of the site. Both their activities happen right in front of the site making it easily accessible. The placement of the student housing is made intentionally within the same side of the site as that of the school block as it is closer with out any barrier like road to cross and also enjoys the best views of the water body. The staff housing is placed on to the southern site giving them more privacy from the children after the school hours. The placement of the amphitheatre is made due to the natural contours that is existing there, The location of the healthcare centre was later added into the southern site where more public activity takes place.

The shape analysis is done on the basis of four parameters. • Climate • Access • Orientation • View Point The adjacent shape analysis images are being derived by the following steps: • All the space that is available on the site to build a particular block from the zoning and the edge condition is considered at the 1st stage. • Then these shapes are analysed based on climate and orientation is fixed accordingly. • Then the access to the individual block is created with a cut-out in the shape created. • Finally, the aspect of view is considered. The site forces us to look around in all direction because of natures beauty. I wanted a shape that captures different views at different point of the building. Thus, came up with a concept of curved/ circular plans.

RURAL EDUCATION VILLAGE

INTENT The main idea of this project is to showcase the requirement of any rural locations in India which is deprived of basic aminities for education. Also there are lot of young invidividuals from these places who come to cities as uneducated and perform task and jobs just because they are not provided with a sufficient education and facilities. Thus the idea of a Rural School with the programmes listed in this project will be a common solution that could be replicated at other parts of the country. Skill Development is another aspect of livelihood required in these places and has to be designed to cater specifically the context of the location. Hence this campus has works with interaction of School and Vocational Training institute. This hepls the kids passing out to have a foundation knowledge and skill to instantaly find an appropreate job.
