PROJECTS

SOMI Gardens

Location: South Miami, FL

Professor: Frank Martinez

Collaboration with: Sheinya Joseph Samantha Ramos

South Miami has a history of a population that augmented within 40 years. However, the impacts of Hurricane Andrew left the city to redevelop a hometown plan. This project closely examines the influence of Marshall Williams Park on the surrounding urban environment. The plan of existing the park illustrates intent to divide and segregate a community that once had a connected street network. This hypothetical project’s main focus was to relocate the park and create a mixed-use neighborhood.

New Horizons School

Location: Coconut Grove, FL

Professor: Charlotte Von Moos

Material Focus: Wood, Concrete

Focus: Adaptive Reuse

Gas stations on the axis of SW 27th Avenue in Miami were closely documented and analyized to understand the worthiness and beauty of these everyday structures. After documenting these gas stations and selecting the sites with the most potential, a concept was formulated with the intent of mutating the site to something new. With the programs of a learning center, a terrace, and eatery, the project faces the challenge of addressing the programmatic layout and composition as it responds to the site’s urban context.

Located in Miami Beach, the urban district includes historic, tourist, recreational and social uses. Historic, new, modest, luxury, low and high-rise residential buildings coexist within the area in a unique combination of functions, building types and formal approaches. This project uses a 550 foot by 300 foot site to address the concept of social housing in a manner that encourages social interaction and demonstrates an affordable housing strategy.

Still Life

Still life is a work of art that artists have used for thousands of years. This technique is used to tell stories and convey a specific scene. It was the period of the Renaissance that allowed still life to become artwork that also brought drama to ordinary objects. This project glorifies still life with a personal and passionate intent.

Location: University of Miami Coral Gables, FL

This set of photos presents one building’s interior and evening shot of its facade. The photos display the way a glazed building uses natural light in the day and glass facade at night. Twilight and evening photography has been studied dating back to early painters. The purpose of this kind of art is to create a timeless image of what cannot be seen during the day.

ART PROJECTS

Color has been one of the most powerful visual elements. Color is subjective, using influences from culture and space. This project’s intent is to understand visual elements and representations in built spaces. A banana is used to study its physical aspects showing how it can be representended in differentent forms of art, including turning the fruit of choice into a tropical tile design as illustrated to the left.
