Letter from the Editor Victor Valley College Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator Andrew Caravella Reflects on 2023 at VVC. I’m happy to report that you are now seeing VVC in the community more and more. Over the past year I’ve witnessed numerous departments rolling up their sleeves and putting in the time at various events all over the community. Everything from job resource fairs to non-profit hosted events to city functions.

Working in broadcast news all over Southern California, I’ve seen and report on my share of food insecurity and homeless youth stories.

It’s sad, and heart-breaking, and makes one scratch their head how one could live in the most powerful country on the planet and still have such poverty-stricken issues hitting people so young.

2023 was undoubtedly an amazing and stellar year for Victor Valley College. I’m new around here, and came to work at Victor Valley College in late February of 2023. However, lots of you may very well know me from other endeavors over the years. When I came to VVC, I really wanted to enhance information and communication between students, faculty, staff and our High Desert community. I originally started my educational journey with VVC back in 2006, prior to heading off to Los Angeles to pursue showbusiness.

It’s full circle to come back as an alum and do what I do best, tell stories. I’ve always been a professional storyteller by trade. Recording Artist, Director, Producer, Actor, TV Host, Journalist and News Anchor (yes, that’s my voice every weekend on KFI AM 640 that you hear!) Everything I’ve done prior to VVC has been telling people’s stories. I get no better joy than learning about my fellow colleagues and the students of this campus and then turning it around and putting it in the form of a story to share with the public at large!

The responses and feedback we’ve received for creating RAMS Monthly here in the Marketing Department has been well received and positive. Also, VVC’s Associated Student Body has been instrumental in making sure that this publication reaches students so they stay informed with everything that is important and worth knowing in the VVC Universe! One of the goals of Victor Valley College moving forward is helping create cultural change to become more inclusive. I feel RAMS Monthly is a perfect megaphone for that goal!

Programs like Thrive at VVC help combat these challenges for young people in our very own community. The resources and information that our program has is legitimately a safe haven for those in need.

They provide resources and information on Housing, Utility Bill Payment, Personal Hygiene, Clothing, Financial Assistance, Transportation, Childcare, Mental health, Crisis, Substance and Drug Abuse, Legal, and even Employment Assistance. A good percentage of our community struggles with things that most of us take for granted. Resources like the above make it more accessible and tangible for students to get an education and change their life around-forever.

As a news person, this is the time of year that I do a deep dive into our community, in this case, more specifically, our college community, to look for those inspiring and real-life stories to share. I can guarantee that a good amount of people connect and/or relate to these kinds of stories. The stories that don’t get shared often. The ones that are easily forgotten. I’ve seen staff on this campus move mountains for students. That’s called love. I’ve also seen students go out of their way to help one another out in their times of need and support, that’s also called love.

In addition to the John W. Rice Award, VVC earned a plethora of other awards in 2023.

Dr. Sonya Christian, the appointed Chancellor of the California Community Colleges, extended her heartfelt congratulations to Superintendent/President Daniel Walden for the remarkable accomplishments in equitable course placement. In 2023 VVC was awarded 6 Campaign for College Opportunity Excellence

in Placement Awards for campus’ excellence in implementing equitable course placement practices. Those recognition are as follows: VVC is the only community college in Southern California to rank superior in Campuswide Transfer-Level Math Enrollment. That means VVC is successfully supporting 100% of all students enrolling directly into transfer-level Math coursework.

VVC is the only community college in Southern California to rank superior in Campuswide Transfer-Level Math Enrollment specifically for Latinx students. That means VVC has been supporting 100% of Latinx students to directly enroll in transfer-level math.

VVC has also received recognition for Equity Designation in Latinx Transfer-Level English Enrollment. That means VVC has been honored for supporting 100% of Latinx students enrolling directly into transfer-level English.

VVC has also received recognition for Equity Designation in Black Transfer-Level English Enrollment. That means VVC has been honored for supporting 100% of Black students enrolling directly into transfer-level English.

Finally, VVC also received recognition for Black-transfer-Level Math Enrollment which means VVC supported 100% of Black students enrolling directly into transfer-level math. Only 2 colleges in Southern California received this honor, VVC being one of them.

I don’t know how else to say it other than those accomplishments equal love for our students and what we do as educators in this community.

The achievements of 2023 are not just institutional victories but a testament to the love we have for our students and the broader community. Let’s carry this momentum forward, celebrate the often overlooked stories that shape our college community, and embrace the exciting journey that awaits us.

I’m excited to see what 2024 brings for us all as VVC continues to be the absolute standard of Higher Education for community college in California. I hope you enjoy this highlighted 2023 edition of some of our favorite VVC stories from the past year. Cheers. -AC

Student Spotlight: Meet Mark

Mark’s journey is nearly four decades in the making, starting at VVC back in 1981 The year was 1981. Victor Valley College was celebrating its 20th successful year as a community college in California. Student Mark Hinojos enrolled in VVC, but then left abruptly to pursue other adventures.

Fast forward nearly 4 decades later to 2018.

Mark returns to VVC to finish his AA degree in Liberal Arts with a Social and Behavioral Science Emphasis.

Not every adventure is worth celebrating, however. Mark had quite some dark days before making the effort to get his life on the right course. “I can admit that I am a recovering alcoholic and part of my recovery was to start to give back to my community, it helped me find a higher purpose for my life,” says Mark.

Mark decided the best way to help others is to dig deeper into his own challenges and find ways to help others with their addictions.

On that journey, he says he discovered that a college degree could help those who needed to find their own path to recovery, so he moved back to his hometown, sort of. “I moved to Oak Hills and not back to Apple Valley where I was born and raised, and began my education starting at San Bernardino Valley College for my Substance Use Disorder Certificate. While continuing that certificate path, I met Professor Anh Weis for my ‘Fire by Crucible’ back into elementary algebra! I discovered that she taught at both VVC and SBVC so I knew I could follow her to both schools.”

Professor Weis became a major impact in Mark’s journey who says that Weis had a way of teaching that enabled him as an older man, to start over in the quest of algebraic expertise, and it was a tough start. “Professor Weis stuck it out, worked with me to help me understand what she was teaching and more importantly, the how and why of what she was teaching. I am a numbers guy so things absolutely need to stand up to verification and quantification, so she figured out a way to kind of reverse engineer how the equations evolve into problem solving and how to incorporate that into real life scenarios.” Mark also says that Weis made me a promise that if he put in the time, as she was committing to him, it would all make sense and she would see him through to the finish line.

“What began as an elementary algebra class with a final grade of “C”, carried me all the way

I don’t think I could have finished this part of my CSUGE without out her. In fact, what she gave me was the math confidence to continue through to Bio-Stats and I have already carried forward a 4.0 GPA into my SAS programming and other stats curriculum at the University.”

Where is Mark Today?

Mark started his career in public health not long after receiving his Associate Degree at VVC. In Spring 2020 at the beginning of COVID-19 Mark began working for the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health for about a year and a half as a communicable disease case investigator.

“While working through the pandemic, I realized that public health offered me the opportunity to reach far more people on a much larger scale as a health educator so I changed my major to Health Sciences and Health Education and continued to study while I worked full time at the county.” Says Mark.

In August 2021, based on Mark’s performance as a team lead for the county, his supervisor put his name in the hat as a candidate for a fellowship with California Pathways into Public Health (Cal-PPH). Not long after, Mark was awarded the fellowship.

Developed by the California Department of Public Health, UCSF and UCLA, the program is designed to hire, educate, train, and place new public health professionals in rural or underserved local heath jurisdictions.

Mark says he never gets bored with the work, “One of the first lessons I learned in public health is that no day is ‘typical.’ While my expertise lies in communications and public outreach, I work on teams that focus on community health assessments (CHA) and improvement planning (CHIP), Health Equity initiatives and Communicable disease investigations in COVID-19, Tuberculosis, STI/STD’s and more. My other focus is FEMA training for our Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) programs.

5 | RAMS MONTHLY Mark has big plans for his career since his time is up with the fellowship. The primary focus of the two-year program has provided him with a worldclass education and a pathway into public health at the local level. Ultimately, the program was designed so that it impacts how participants make a positive difference in their communities, allowing for permanent placement. “Some of us are still waiting for that offer but I am proud to tell you that I was offered a career position with Tehama County Health Services Agency, which is the local health jurisdiction I was placed in and I am planning on staying [there] so I can make a difference in this small, but very awesome county of Northern California.” Says Mark.

“Professor Weis stuck it out, worked with me to help me understand what she was teaching...”

Mark has a bit of advice for fellow college students that may be struggling to find their one truth path in higher education, “First, get your General Education done first so you don’t burn out, second, if you can, stay employed while you’re in school. It may be tough, but that work experience is what is going to make you stand out to future employers, Third, find a professor like Anh Weis in the VVC math department to help you navigate whatever challenges college throws at you, for me that was algebra! I have worked with a lot of instructors throughout my education and finding the ones with passion and empathy will help you succeed at whatever endeavors you strive for. I know that there are incredible instructors still available in this world and a lot of them work in our community college districts. Be honest with your struggles in their classes, ask a lot of questions, put in the work and they will reach far beyond the norms to help you succeed.”

FELICIA KARIKARI: Making a Difference in VVC’s HASS Community A brief glance at the Program Manager behind the HASS Student Engagement Center Felicia Karikari, the Program Manager for the School of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences (HASS) at Victor Valley College (VVC), in a candid interview, she shared her heartfelt journey, the significance of Arts & Humanities, and the resources that warmly embrace HASS students.

A Year of Heart and Soul Felicia, who became part of the VVC family in October 2022, brings a profound commitment to education that transcends the confines of a conventional job. “It’s more than just a job to me; it’s an integral part of who I am,” Karikari reflects. Her enthusiasm is infectious as she talks about her role, which revolves around supporting students, building enduring relationships, and becoming a cherished chapter in their life stories. Her favorite aspect of the job? “Connecting with our students - bringing a smile with a simple greeting, offering a helping hand, or guiding them in the right direction.”

Arts & Humanities: Nurturing Society’s Soul As we celebrate Arts & Humanities Month in October, Felicia underscores the profound role that Arts & Humanities play in our collective journey. “Arts & Humanities hold a special place in our everyday lives, uniting us through shared learning and a deeper understanding of our interconnectedness,” she emphasizes.

“By infusing the arts and humanities into our daily experiences, we enhance the quality of life and nurture a greater appreciation for the world around us. This fosters bold, innovative thinking, sparks creativity in critical thought, and enables us to revel in life’s simple pleasures while addressing pressing societal challenges.”

Empowering HASS Students: A Compassionate Haven Felicia’s commitment extends to fostering an environment where HASS students flourish.

She warmly describes the Student Engagement Center, thoughtfully designed to cater to the unique needs of each academic school at VVC. For HASS students, this means having access to learning materials, support, and resources that complement their learning journey. It’s a nurturing space where they can gather for meetings, rejuvenate their spirits, showcase their artistic talents, engage with faculty beyond the classroom, connect with fellow students, and feel embraced by the college community. The center also provides counselling support, workshops to acquire new skills and earn extra credit, and personalized

Personal Touchstones When discussing her favorite artist, Felicia’s eyes light up as she shares her admiration for Daddy Lumba, a Ghanaian singer-songwriter and musician. Her connection to his music stems from cherished memories of her late father cooking and dancing to Daddy Lumba’s melodies. “I adore how his songs transcend time, resonating with generations. I play Daddy Lumba’s music around the house with my kids, keeping my father’s memory and warm spirit alive in a beautiful way.”

As for her favorite humanitarian, Felicia holds Harriet Tubman in deep regard, recognizing her as an embodiment of courage, generosity, and unyielding resilience.

Guiding Light for HASS Students Felicia imparts heartfelt advice to HASS students at VVC, urging them to “cherish every step of your journey here at VVC. Build meaningful connections, seize every opportunity for personal growth, and celebrate your victories, no matter how small they may seem.”

Felicia Karikari’s genuine passion, unwavering dedication, and wholehearted commitment to education continue to inspire her colleagues and students at Victor Valley College. As she embarks on another year of service, her profound impact on the HASS community remains a testament to the power of heartdriven education. VVC History Professor Boldy Goes the Distance in new Star Trek doc Story by: Andrew Caravella

A VVC History professor boldy goes where no VVC professor has gone before... film a documentary for the History Channel.

Part time faculty History professor Wesley Willison is featured on a new Star Trek documentary called: “The Center Seat, 55 Years of Star Trek.” - The doc is said to chronicle rare and fascinating details of how “Star Trek” began, where it’s been, and how it’s going where no television series has gone before.

Willison says that he’s happy to join the VVC team, “So far at VVC the last three semesters I have taught Women In American History (Hist 155), California History (Hist.115 ), Early American History (Hist. 117) and Modern American History (History 118). I believe it is important to be knowledgeable about all History and to be flexible in regards to what I

can and do teach.”

Willison had quite a unique upbringing before coming to VVC. As a child he appeared out of cages of fire in his parent’s magic show, eventually evolving into a stage Ventriloquist.

As a young adult Willison attended community college, then university and in the process earned his Masters in History, Masters in Education with a Focus in Digital Teaching and Learning and a Multiple Subject Clear Credential. “I can’t imagine being a Professor without being an entertainer first,” jokes Willison.

He credits Indiana Jones films and his grandparents for helping him discover a passion for History. “As a kid I spent long hours and days with them, and my grandparents were born in 1916, 1920 and 1930 respectively.

So their perspective was a vast one across the twentieth Century. My Grandpa Clarence ‘Willie’ Willison ran liquor during prohibition, shined Al Capone’s shoes, and served in World War II. My Grandma Freda was a ‘Rosie the Riveter’ during World War II and my Grandma Martha being the youngest was in the generation of the ‘Bobby Sox’ girls during World War II. All of them grew up or were adults during the Great Depression and were witness to probably one of the most eventful centuries in human history, the 20th Century.

So growing up with these stories, and their histories was pivotal to planting the seeds and growing my passion for History.

7 | RAMS MONTHLY American Captain, Sisko, who was raising his son alone, a former terrorist turned first officer, Major Kira.”

Who is your favorite Starfleet officer or Star Trek character and why?

“That is a tie between Captain Janeway, Sisko and Picard. Picard is such a powerful force and moral compass. Sisko for his morals and values and the fact he was a good dad while dealing with the numerous crises at Deep Space Nine. Janeway, a powerful woman who was dedicated to getting her crew home regardless of the costs and the 70 year journey.

She remained steadfast, tough and determined under horrible circumstances and kept her eye on the mission of returning her crew safely home. While they made mistakes, I believe that the three of these characters, Picard, Sisko and Janeway promote some of the best of our human characteristics.”

Willison also explains that Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, had a vision of inclusivity way back in the 1960’s when he first developed Star Trek. The power and content of this message has evolved and resonates with our society today according to Willison who also says that “the producers since have expanded upon [Gene’s] vision so much and have included African American Captains, Female Captains, Gay members of the crew, Non-Binary members of the crew and so on.

No generation is perfect and we are on a long road to acceptance of all people and loving all people and respecting everyone’s place in society. Spock had a symbol called IDIC, Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combination. I believe we are getting closer to that reality, it may not happen today or tomorrow but we are getting there. Humanity takes baby steps and sometimes one step forward and two back.“

and passion for Women’s History.

With over 1000 televised hours of Star Trek and 13 films, Willison says it’s difficult to pick a favorite, “As far as the films I would say that Star Trek The Motion Picture is my favorite as it truly showed the vastness of space and a threat as a result of sending a probe into space and what could happen. But spoiler alert, it was a Voyager spacecraft, that was captured by machine beings and sent out with its programming to find its creator,” jokes Willison.

As far as a Star Trek TV series, Star Trek Deep Space Nine (1993-1999) is his favorite.

“Deep Space Nine did so much to advance Roddenberry’s vision, it was also inclusive with its stories, characters, etc. It was progressive with LGBTQ+ themes, strong women, the characters were diverse including an African

We as a society must find solutions for so many issues, but, when we work together, humanity is a powerful force. In our politics and society we become so distracted by issues created and we must turn our focus on our future. What do we want to leave our kids and grandchildren? I believe in humanity and our ability to do great things. I also believe that space is a unifying factor so many technologies we benefit from today come from our space program. There are bigger things in the universe and we as humanity must come together to explore them and explore ourselves and not be distracted. .

Willison shared with us some previous background knowledge about actress Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) who he met in real life when he was just 7 years old. “... Voyager had just aired and I already had a great respect for the character of Janeway and for Kate Mulgrew! I was lucky to meet her when Voyager first aired in 1995. As mentioned

During the Q&A some middle aged male fan comes up and states that the ‘Jury is still out on you as an actor on the show, and if a woman could lead a Star Trek series and Janeway herself and that it’s a mistake to put a woman as a lead.’ This was the kind of sexist and disgusting reception she received when the show aired and many people forget now, nearly 30 years later. She didn’t appear at another convention for years.”

Star Trek conventions tend to have some most loyal fandoms and something of this nature is generally a shocking moment for any loyal trekkie to witness. Willison went on to descibe how the vile moment affected him so much, even as a kid, “I have been inspired by so many strong women in my life, and this ‘fans’ behavior is so abhorrent to me. How did that affect kids like me listening in the audience, we will never know. There should be no place for sexism, racism, bigotry, hatred or anything else along those lines in our society. So, I recount that story and others in the series and discuss the importance of strong women in fiction from a Historical perspective. I have also had the pleasure of meeting so many of the Star Trek actors and creatives. I was also an extra in the 2009 Star Trek film. Also as a result of my participation in the documentary my VVC students found that I have an IMDB (Internet Movie Database) profile right up there with Harrison Ford, Dwayne Johnson and Sir Patrick Stewart!”

Willison wrapped our conversation by speaking highly about VVC and how great the energy is from students and staff, “If you can dream it you can do it!” Willison joked about not sounding too cliche, “...as I reflect on my life at this vantage point now being at the last part of the Sinatra Song ‘It Was a Very Good Year,’ I realize that I stayed the course, it didn’t matter that I had ‘friends’ telling me there was no opportunity in education, or that there wasn’t a career in teaching, I had the long term plan and ignored temporary trends and kept the goal of being a professor and teacher. It was far from an easy road and at times I was so poor I couldn’t even afford Top Ramen. I had Professors encouraging me to drop out of college because I got a C in a class my first semester and I came of age in 2008 during what I like to call the ‘second Great Depression.’ There is light at the end of the tunnel and like my mom always said ‘today is a new day.’ It’s about the long term goal not the speed bumps along the way. I am far from finished in life and still have many more goals and dreams. I would encourage all to keep that spirit of adventure, keep your eye on the future and to Boldly Go!” (Originally published in April 2023a edition of Rams Monthly)

Dr. Curry Presents an Enlightening Look at Leadership Compton College President/CEO Presents Memorable Equity Discussion with VVC Leaders

Dr. Keith Curry, President of Compton College, shared his insights on Racial Equity Leadership with leaders of Victor Valley College in a recent presentation held at the Student Activities Center.

The event was attended by a diverse group of leaders and students from various departments of Victor Valley College, who were keen to learn from Dr. Curry’s extensive experience and expertise on issues of racial equity.

During his presentation, Dr. Curry emphasized the importance of creating inclusive environments that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. He also discussed strategies for addressing racial disparities in higher education, highlighting the importance of datadriven approaches and collaborative efforts.

In January 2023 Dr. Curry received worldwide acknowledgement from Forbes for national prominence on racial equity and student success.

Dr. Curry’s presentation was well-received by

the audience, who praised his leadership and insights on Strategic Leadership. Dr. Curry explained in-depth how strategic leadership happens when a leader shares a vision and goal with their team and inspires them to work together, “Dr. Curry’s presentation was insightful and informative, and it gave us a lot to think about in terms of how we can improve our own institution,” said Dr. Daniel Walden, President of Victor Valley College.

The event was organized as part of Victor Valley College’s ongoing efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion on its campus.

The college has recently launched several initiatives aimed at improving access and opportunities for under-represented groups, including scholarships and mentorship programs.

Dr. Curry is widely recognized as a leading expert in the field of racial equity in higher education.

Dr. Keith Curry has adopted a slogan, “Every student is a success story.” He believes every community college student can be successful with the right academic and student support services. Dr. Curry has taken a strong stance in the ability of community colleges to provide quality education to students and to provide an environment of educational excellence. Dr. Curry also has a passion for teaching those students who aspire to careers as higher education administrators.

Rambassador Quentin CJ Livingston aka “Q” is a 21-year-old student enrolled at VVC. Q had an opportunity to attend the presentation by Dr. Curry and felt that the discussion on Racial Equity was “very productive.”

QUICK FACTS: Despite being a significant proportion of the student body, Black and Hispanic students face disparities in graduation rates and transfer rates.

For example, according to a report by The Campaign for College Opportunity, in 20192020, only 28% of Black students and 33% of Hispanic students who enrolled in a California community college in 2014-2015 had earned a degree or certificate, transferred to a four-year institution, or were still enrolled after six years.

Q also enjoyed Dr. Curry’s explanation of specifying the importance of establishing an economic base and that everyone needs to do their part with “learning what systemic racism is and how it works.”

A 2021 abstract on the National Library of Medicine website (NIH) says that “Systemic racism is a scientifically tractable phenomenon, urgent for cognitive scientists to address.

This tutorial reviews the built-in systems that undermine life opportunities and outcomes by racial category, with a focus on challenges to Black Americans.”

Another VVC student who is also a Rambassador, Jesus Gonzalez, also attended Dr. Curry’s presentation. He says that he really enjoyed how Dr. Curry spoke on making college affordable for students.

Jesus is a first generation college student and says that it’s the simple stuff like free food or free access to printers, “Food is one of the best things a college could offer its students.”

Jesus says the reason he chose to attend VVC is because he did not want to work a deadend job and felt that education gives him an opportunity for something better, but most importantly it’s a place where he can enjoy getting an education.

Jesus also touched on his thoughts about grants that are used specifically for students.

He says that it’s important to encourage the positive spending of such funds for things like free food for students because “if you don’t use it you lost it.”

One of the biggest challenges facing higher education in the United States today is achieving racial equity. Despite efforts to increase diversity and inclusion on college campuses, many institutions still struggle to create an environment that is truly welcoming and inclusive for students of all racial backgrounds.

These programs have been shown to improve academic outcomes for Black and Hispanic students.

Veteran and First-Generation College Student Finds Success at VVC

Army vet affirms ‘positive experience transitioning back to education at VVC’ Victor Valley College has been a transformative journey for 25-year-old Jason, a veteran and first-generation college student. Having served in the United States Army and achieved impressive accomplishments during his time, Jason’s path to college has been shaped by his experiences and aspirations.

Originally from the Philippines, Jason came to America at the age of 10 in 2011.

Reflecting on his early life, he describes his upbringing as “rough,” particularly highlighting the challenges of limited access to basic necessities like water. “Growing up not having enough water” was one of the hardest parts, he recalls. However, his life took a significant turn when he joined the Army, finding camaraderie and structure within the military. “The most enjoyable part was the comradery and structure the Army provided me,” Jason said.

His display of leadership skills earned him the title of Soldier of the Year in 2018.

Inspired by the movie “Fury,” Jason’s decision to join the Army was heavily influenced by the depiction of US tank crews during World War II. Serving as a tanker in the infantry, he embraced the demanding lifestyle and the opportunity to be a problem solver in highpressure situations. “I had to be an on-the-spot problem solver almost instantly,” he confessed.

Now a civilian, Jason balances his studies at VVC with running his own business called “Infinity Sky Party Rentals.” This locally owned and operated venture provides a range of services and equipment for various events.

Jason takes pride in his entrepreneurial spirit, stating, “I’m grateful for my time at VVC because all of my teachers are super understanding and amazing.”

As May is Military Appreciation Month, Jason reflects on the challenges of military life. “The lifestyle is rough,” he admits. He emphasizes the need for resilience and a willingness to learn, while cautioning others about combat arms, saying, “Don’t do combat arms, there are hundreds of jobs in the Army.”

At Victor Valley College, Jason has found a supportive community. He commends the understanding and amazing teachers who have guided him throughout his academic journey.

He also highlights the valuable assistance provided by the Veteran Resource Center on the lower campus, stating, “The center helps out a lot too.” Overall, he affirms his positive experience transitioning back to education at VVC. Jason’s story serves as an inspiration to fellow veterans and first-generation college students, showcasing the potential for success through resilience, determination, and seizing opportunities. STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: JESSIE ROATH An interview with a political science major who represents advocacy and inspiration Sometimes walking on campus, you’ll find a passionate and determined student named Jessie Roath who is making waves as they embark on their final year of studies at VVC. With a major in Political Science, Roath envisions a future where he can shape existing structures and create safe and equal spaces for marginalized communities. In an exclusive interview, Roath shared his experiences, challenges, and aspirations, shedding light on an inspiring journey.

Roath, like many members of the LGBTQIA++ community didn’t have an inclusive upbringing. In fact Roath spoke to Rams Monthly about overcoming childhood trauma and experiencing domestic violence in his household at an early age. “I was shielded from the LGBTQ community,” says Roath who eventually found his way when he discovered friends in the community and watched TV shows that helped him identify who he personally is as an individual. “Being educated about the community helped me grow into my own true identity,” says Roath.

Roath touched upon about the most caring

individual on campus who has influenced his academic path. “Elizabeth Duarte has been instrumental in my journey here at VVC. She not only guided me professionally but also connected me with the Associated Student Body (ASB) and encouraged my active involvement in school activities,” Roath expressed gratefully. Duarte’s mentorship has empowered Roath to forge connections, paving the way for a successful future career.

Reflecting on the challenges faced during college, Roath candidly acknowledged the pressure to excel. “Society often imposes the notion that we must achieve perfection in everything we do, which can be exhausting.

But I’ve learned that it’s okay not to achieve 100% in everything. It’s a personal journey of growth and self-acceptance,” Roath stated, emphasizing the importance of selfcompassion and recognizing individual limitations.

When asked about their motivations, Roath shared a deeply personal insight. “The trauma I experienced growing up fuels my motivation to rectify existing issues and create safer

Addressing ways to enhance the college experience for students, Roath stressed the importance of accessibility for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender individuals who require recognition of their preferred names.

Amidst Roath’s inspiring journey, one person has played a significant role. Roath fondly reminisced about his late grandfather, who provided unwavering support throughout his endeavors. “My grandfather was my pillar of strength, always there when I needed him.

His encouragement fueled my self-belief, and his pride in my achievements assured me of a bright future.”

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: VVC Nursing Student Cleans House on TV Game Show Story by Andrew Caravella

Photo courtesy of Let’s Make a Deal/CBS VVC soon-to-be graduate Kristina Rosenberg has had quite an interesting final semester at Victor Valley College. You would think becoming an RN would be the icing on the cake, but winning big money on a national television show was the real cherry on top.

Kristina’s professional career in the healthcare/first responder field dates back to about 2016, way before she started attending class at VVC. She started her journey as a travelling EMT and a lifeguard. She ironically worked on various TV shows and Hollywood productions including Top Chef Jr (her favorite), Katy Perry and Lady Gaga music video sets and even Megan Thee Stallion.

The 29-year-old Helendale resident has lived in the High Desert practically her whole life and says nursing was in her blood. “I was the person who would run to people’s aide when I was four-years-old. Nursing I feel is basically my natural evolution,” says Kristina.

So how did she wind up on Let’s Make a Deal?

Kristina says that she had signed up to do the show in the past, but life and scheduling conflicts kept getting in her way so she kept passing on the opportunity. However, one day the planets aligned, and Kristina put on her homemade maid costume , sporting her “space buns” hairdo and made it to set. She was ready. Not long into filming, her name was called and she nearly lost it with excitement.

Little did she know, in just a few minutes, her

costume-wearing-maid self was going to clean house.

In this Let’s Make A Deal episode, host Wayne Brady interacts with the audience to determine who will be selected as contestants to participate in a game. Kristina gets summoned to play and is offered a choice between three doors. She proudly declares door number one, basing it off of her family dynamic and it being her lucky number.

Brady reveals what’s behind door number three first, only showing that Kristina missed out on a $10,000 dollar opportunity. He then turns his attention to door number one to reveal that Kristina selected the Let’s Make a Deal Vault.

Once the vault is opened, it’s revealed that Kristina won the big deal of the day and walks away with over $21,000 dollars!

When asked what she’s going to do with the money, Kristina says that she’s going to catch up on bills which will help pay off her nursing degree.

Kristina has been an active student during her stay at VVC. She is the current CNSA (California Nursing Students’ Association) president for the VVC chapter. When asked what her biggest challenges were at VVC, Kristina simply replied with “prioritization.”

She says there were “so many moving parts,” that often times it was difficult for her to “find

balance.” She went on to say that her “family gave up a lot for [her] to do this,” supporting her though every step of the college experience at VVC. When asked to reflect on those at VVC who guided her through the journey she says that Karmen Padfield stands out the most, specifically with her NP2 and NP4 classes, “I struggled the most [in those classes], she always would give me the inspiration I needed.”

Kristina was asked about some positive advice that she could leave behind for students at VVC also going through challenges or perhaps struggling with classes as they too power through their college experience.

“Don’t take on everyone’s emotional baggage.

Set boundaries. Don’t do too much, you will sink. Mental health matters. To be strong be weak to your own needs.”

Victor Valley College’s Tutoring & Academic Support Center recently organized its monthly “Student Connection” event, featuring the accomplished and aspiring student, Matthew Sianarta. Matthew, a dedicated student pursuing an AS-T Mathematics major with ambitions of obtaining a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, shared his inspiring journey and future goals with the college community.

During the event, Matthew expressed his

unwavering determination to become a NASA Astronaut, a dream he has nurtured for years. He credited Elizabeth Duarte, an exceptional figure on campus, as the most caring and supportive person who has been instrumental in his academic and professional pursuits. Elizabeth’s guidance and provision of resources have been invaluable, particularly during Matthew’s NASA research project and his ongoing efforts to advance his professional aspirations.

Reflecting on his college experience, Matthew candidly shared that time management has been his greatest challenge. Balancing academic, professional, and personal responsibilities while adapting to unexpected events has required him to prioritize and reallocate his time effectively. However, his passion for helping others has served as a powerful motivator. Witnessing others grasp complex concepts has been an incredibly rewarding experience for Matthew.

Outside of his academic pursuits, Matthew indulges in hobbies such as star gazing, cooking, and hiking, which provide him with a well-rounded perspective and moments of relaxation amidst his demanding schedule.

When asked about his advice for fellow college students, Matthew emphasized the importance of understanding that college is not the sole

defining experience in life. He encouraged students to recognize the broader community they are a part of, allowing them to connect their studies with real-world applications and events. Matthew also emphasized the significance of identifying what truly matters in life.

In terms of improving the college experience for students, Matthew suggested that establishing connections and offering support, guidance, and advice to those facing academic and social challenges would be invaluable. By sharing personal experiences and insights, students can navigate college life with confidence and ease.

Matthew took a moment to highlight the unwavering support of his girlfriend, Ivette Curiel, who has been an indispensable source of encouragement and assistance throughout his academic journey. Embarking on Ecological Exploration: Ainsley’s Journey into Biopreservation Begins VVC Ram Ainsley will embark on an exciting research journey as a participant in the prestigious ATP-Bio REU & UROP Program.

This nationwide internship offers STEM students, including those from community college with no prior research experience, the opportunity to explore cutting-edge biopreservation technologies. Ainsley graduates in June, from there she’ll head to Minnesota where she’ll work alongside a collaborative team at the University of Minnesota. With comprehensive support, including lodging, travel, and a $6,000 stipend, Ainsley gets to delve into revolutionary research aimed at extending the viability of biological systems and advancing biopreservation techniques.

This immersive experience will help propel Ainsley’s understanding of advanced technologies for biological preservation.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: VVC Students to Present at Stanford University

Students will present at the annual Bay Area Honors Research Consortium Story by Andrew Caravella VVC Students to Present NASA Internship Work at Stanford Consortium Five students from Victor Valley College (VVC) have been selected to participate in the Bay Area Honors Research Consortium at Stanford University this weekend. The purpose of the event is to present their work at VVC in the 2023 NASA internship.

Out of nearly 200 honor proposals, only 90 were selected. Of the 90, VVC had its group project selected to present, making them the only 1 of 10 group presentations as well as the first-ever VVC students to present at the consortium. Three out of the five Rams’ students will take the stage to present a formal 15-minute discussion on improving aerodynamic efficiency.

Jairo Reynoso, one of the selected students, said, “If it wasn’t for opportunities like this offered to us at VVC, we would not have the chance to present our work at a top college like Stanford.”

The internship was focused on improving aerodynamic efficiency of wing designs, and to qualify, the students had to submit an abstract.

The program was open to community college honor students across the state, with only ten of the 90 selected projects being group projects.

Geline Manuel, another VVC student presenting this weekend, is pursuing a degree in Engineering because of her passion for sustainability. “I pursued Engineering because I live and breathe sustainability. I applied for an internship because the mission of the project that we were working on shows that lower drag reduces carbon emissions from aircraft significantly. To ingrain my passion for everything aerospace has been incredibly enlightening,” she said.

The event will be a rewarding experience for the students, according to Reynoso. “I’m very excited. It’s an honor to represent our college at this level. I wanted to do this because I’m passionate about research, and this is a very difficult feat for any college student to undertake.”

The students have big plans for their future after the consortium and eventually graduation.

surgeon. Manuel plans to pursue a Master’s Degree in Material Science at UC Irvine so she can work in sustainability, which will affect the future of space travel for the next generation.

The consortium at Stanford is one of the biggest universities in the country where work of this nature is presented in a consortium type of atmosphere. Coming from a community college in the high desert and getting invites to speak in front of a captivating audience on the Stanford stage shows that any student can make their goals and dreams a reality.

Both Reynoso and Manuel are members of VVC’s Associated Student Body. Reynoso serves as the Student Services Senator and Manuel as the Vice President.

The ASB at VVC encourages students to get involved on campus and be a part of something bigger than themselves. They organize various events and activities, such as club fairs, volunteer opportunities, and cultural celebrations, which allow students to connect with each other and foster a sense of belonging. The ASB also advocates for student

needs and concerns, providing a platform for their voices to be heard and ensuring that their college experience is fulfilling and empowering.

Through ASB, students have the chance to make a positive impact not only on their own lives but also on the lives of others. They learn the value of teamwork, communication, and collaboration, which are essential skills for success in any field. Victor Valley College (VVC) celebrated a significant milestone on Friday, September 15, 2023, with the grand opening and ribboncutting ceremony of its highly anticipated Student Engagement Centers, housed in the newly renovated Building 21. These centers mark a transformative step forward in enhancing student success and fostering a sense of belonging within the VVC community.

The mission of the Student Engagement Centers is to serve a diverse population of students throughout their educational journey by providing access to learning resources that foster student success. These centers offer a welcoming and inclusive environment where students can engage with peers, connect with essential resources, and actively participate in their educational pathways, known as RAMPaths.

Each of VVC’s four academic schools now boasts its own dedicated Student Engagement Center, staffed by a dynamic Student Success Team committed to supporting students’ access and success. The centers offer a comprehensive range of services, including academic support, career counselling, and campus engagement opportunities, ensuring that all students have the tools they need to navigate their college and career journeys effectively.

VVC student Charles Mallari Excels in CAD, Opening Pathways to Promising Careers Charles Mallari, a student at Victor Valley College (VVC), is making waves in the field of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) with his exceptional talent and passion for creating innovative designs. Mallari, who previously obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in sculptures and ceramics from Cal State Fullerton, decided to pursue a certificate in CAD design at VVC to enhance his employment prospects.

“The choice ultimately came to leave the industry because I wanted to be a stay-athome dad while deciding what my next career move would be,” Mallari explained, reflecting on his decision to transition from the world of sculptures and ceramics to CAD design. “I always had drafting and illustration in all my careers.”

Mallari’s curiosity and eagerness to learn led him to seek a certificate in CAD design, as he recognized the potential it held for better employment opportunities. “CAD design took to me like a fish in water,” Mallari exclaimed.

“It’s very fun, with lots of problem-solving like a puzzle.”

Throughout his artistic journey, Mallari’s preference for clean lines and functional artwork has translated seamlessly into the realm of CAD design. “I usually freehand draw and doodle, creating functional artwork with ceramics,” he shared. With his unique flair and keen eye for detail, Mallari brings his own flavor to CAD design, embracing the challenges it presents.

In addition to his studies, Mallari also serves as a tutor at VVC, sharing his knowledge and skills in SolidWorks and AutoCAD. “I tutor subjects like SolidWorks and AutoCAD, helping students grasp the concepts and providing guidance in these software applications,” Mallari explained. His expertise extends beyond tutoring, as he collaborates with faculty members on practical projects. “I recently worked on a floor plan for the cosmetology department,” Mallari mentioned. “Richard needed a better design to send to the barber board for certification. Together, we developed a design that meets their strict requirements.”

Reflecting on his dream job, Mallari expressed his desire for a flexible schedule, saying, “I

never want a 9-to-5 job. I like the idea of a free schedule to homeschool my kids and work on projects as they come along.” His exceptional skills have already caught the attention of industry professionals, as Mallari shared, “I’ve been fortunate to have a print company reach out to me to be a general illustrator for layouts.”

Looking ahead, Hernandez’s goal is to drive fuel tankers, a position that requires further experience. He aims to gain a solid foundation before transitioning to this specialized field. Henry Hernandez, a recent graduate of Victor Valley College (VVC), has successfully completed the College’s Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Truck Driving Program, marking a significant step in his journey from student to professional truck driver. Hernandez’s path to this achievement was motivated by a series of life-changing events and a determination to contribute to his family’s well-being.

After graduating high school amidst the challenges of the pandemic, Hernandez was uncertain about his career path. However, he was certain about his desire to engage in a blue-collar profession. To support his family during difficult times, he worked alongside his father in a transmission repair business.

A fire incident disrupted their livelihood and led to their eviction from the property.

In the aftermath, Hernandez learned about VVC’s free CDL program, which he saw as an opportunity to pursue a career in truck driving.

“Experiencing that life-changing event was the motivating factor for me to pursue trucking to

help myself and ultimately support my family,” Hernandez stated.

VVC Grad’s Cool Career: Mastering Green Climate Tech in Field Service

Ethan Burrall, a recent graduate of Victor Valley College (VVC), has swiftly established himself as a stand out in the energy-efficient air treatment and climate solutions sector. As a field service technician at Munters, a leading company specializing in dehumidification for industrial processes, Burrall’s contributions underscore the practical and transformative impact of his VVC education.

Burrall’s role as a field service technician primarily centers around maintaining optimal humidity levels for various industrial applications, with a focus on employing desiccant wheel technology. This technology ensures precise humidity control in critical sectors such as medical, biotechnology, and industrial agriculture.

“My responsibilities involve providing both preventative and corrective maintenance to Munters’ customers throughout the United States,” Burrall explains. His dedication to upholding industry standards and ensuring peak operational efficiency showcases his commitment to excellence.

Burrall attributes his success to the education he received at VVC, which equipped him with the requisite educational background, skills, and certifications for his dynamic career.

Having completed his HVAC certification, he secured a position as a data center operations technician with the largest data center colocation company in the United States, based in Las Vegas. During this tenure, he obtained arc flash training and certification, a crucial qualification for working on medium voltage uninterruptible power supply systems and extensive cooling systems.

The impact of Burrall’s new position extends beyond his professional life. He highlights the diverse and enriching experiences that come with his role, providing him the opportunity to engage with a wide array of industrial HVAC applications spanning different sectors.

“I have found not just a job, but a career that allows me to lead a comfortable life and explore the breadth of industrial HVAC applications,” Burrall reflects. With an outlook toward the future, he sees his current position as a stepping stone toward a secure

retirement, alleviating concerns about financial stability and ensuring a fulfilling life for himself and his family.

At 46 years old, Burrall’s journey at VVC from 2020 to 2022 has significantly shaped his trajectory, leading him to a career that merges his passion for energy-efficient solutions with practical expertise. As the leaves begin to change and the air becomes crisper, October brings with it a celebration of creativity and visual storytelling. It’s National Photographer Month, and what better way to celebrate than by shining a spotlight on an aspiring photographer who has made her mark in the world of photography – Rochelle Aldridge, a talented student at Victor Valley College.

Choosing Victor Valley College Rochelle Aldridge’s journey in photography started with a move to the Victor Valley area.

When asked why she chose Victor Valley College (VVC) for her photography studies, Rochelle shared, “I chose to attend Victor Valley College because I had moved to this area.” It’s often the life changes that lead individuals to discover their true passions, and for Rochelle, this change opened up a world of creative possibilities.

A Passion for Capturing Moments While Rochelle’s photography journey began at VVC, her passion for photography has been growing for years. Her favorite part of photography? “The end result with my model,” Rochelle says with enthusiasm. “Whether it’s a group of athletes participating in sports or a new mom who just had her first baby, seeing their expressions is the best part of it all.”

Photography is about capturing those special moments that become treasured memories.

Rochelle believes in the magic of freezing those moments in time, whether on paper or on a screen.

A Lens on Sports Photography Among the various styles of photography, sports photography holds a special place in Rochelle’s heart. Her journey in sports

photography began when her oldest son was growing up and playing travel ball. Rochelle noticed vendors charging hefty fees for their services, and she decided to take matters into her own hands.

“I decided to start learning and creating my own artwork,” Rochelle explains. “Through the years, when an athlete asked me for photos, I never charged them a price. I just let them see the end result and offer me a tip. I feel running my business this way has made me a lot more money since you’re allowing them to choose the price.”

Canon vs. Nikon Of course, no photography interview is complete without the age-old question: Canon or Nikon? Rochelle’s response? A goodnatured laugh. It’s a question that often divides photographers, but Rochelle’s perspective is refreshingly diplomatic. It’s not about the brand; it’s about capturing the moment.

Favorite Snapshot: A World Series Memory Every photographer has a favorite photo, and Rochelle is no exception. Her favorite photo holds immense sentimental value. “It is of my son,” she shares. “He had an opportunity when he was 18 years old to play in the World Series of Pony baseball, a significant event in the Pony community throughout the United States. I happened to be a Field Director for corporate, and I had the opportunity to go down onto the field and create these memories for all these local and international athletes.”

Photography’s Greatest Achievement: Going Global Rochelle’s journey in photography has seen her work published worldwide. It’s a significant achievement that reflects her dedication, talent,

and passion for photography. Her work has transcended boundaries, touching the lives of people around the world.

Photography as Therapy For many, photography serves as a therapeutic escape, a way to find solace in the midst of life’s challenges. Rochelle wholeheartedly agrees. “Oh yes, photography is definitely my therapy. I consider it ‘me time.’ It’s satisfying to me, and I won’t let anyone take that from me.”

Through the lens of her camera, Rochelle Aldridge has found a way to capture the beauty and emotion of life’s moments. Her passion for photography shines brightly, and her journey is an inspiration to all aspiring photographers.

VVC’s Nursing Apprenticeship Cohort Forges Vital Partnerships With Hospital Employers Victor Valley College (VVC) is proud to announce a significant milestone in the development of healthcare professionals. The inaugural registered-nursing apprenticeship cohort recently convened with esteemed hospital employers for the first time, further enriching their educational journey. This momentous meeting took place at Desert Valley Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center, two revered healthcare institutions within the region.

In the words of Dana Roesler, CEO of Desert Valley Hospital, “Desert Valley Hospital values partnerships with educational institutions like Victor Valley College. Collaborating with the nursing cohort from VVC is a great opportunity for both organizations. This partnership will not only provide valuable learning experiences for the nursing students but also contribute to the overall quality of healthcare in the community.

We are excited about the possibilities this collaboration holds and we look forward to a successful partnership with the Victor Valley College nursing cohort.”

The significance of these partnerships cannot be overstated. Establishing these vital connections is fundamental to building a robust foundation for effective communication and nurturing essential professional relationships.

This inaugural interaction allowed VVC’s nursing apprentices to gain critical insights into the distinctive workplace culture, expectations, and specific job requirements at these prominent healthcare institutions, fostering a sense of belonging and support.

Amy Grimsley, Director Of Clinical Education and Professional Development at St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley says ” The partnership between VVC’s apprenticeship program and St. Mary Medical Center is an innovative method for education and career development. We have a shared goal of student success. The ongoing meetings with the nurse apprentices fosters socialization to the role of nursing and to the ministry. We look forward to having the students join us upon graduation..”

Moreover, these initial meetings provided an invaluable platform for mentors to assess the nursing apprentices’ evolving skills and abilities, enabling them to tailor their guidance and training effectively as the apprentices progress through Victor Valley College’s rigorous Nursing Program.

Karmen Padfield, VVC’s Interim Director of

Nursing and Allied Health, expressed her pride in the program’s achievements, boasting about VVC’s Nursing Program ranking in the Top 15 out of 160 Nursing Programs in California, with an average of 97.3% first-time NCLEX passing rates, according to RNcareers. org (2022). “Our nursing program was also ranked No. 4 in California and was praised by the organization for producing graduates that are ‘ready to work’ as a member of ‘the health care team.’ We are very proud and excited to share that each nursing graduate is prepared to practice nursing at any entry level in a variety of settings, including medical/surgical, psychiatric, maternal/child, perioperative, geriatric, critical care, and oncology,” added Padfield.

The ultimate goal of these early interactions is to facilitate a seamless integration of the apprentices into their respective healthcare teams, fostering a cohesive and collaborative work environment. The development of highly skilled and compassionate registered nurses is the ultimate objective upon the successful completion of VVC’s Nursing Apprenticeship Program.

From Immigrant Roots to a Victor Valley Community Leader Inspiring Recognition of VVC’s own Martha Mendez

She is a dedicated volunteer on the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee, organized the first-ever Day of the Dead event at VVC, and actively participates on College Council and as a representative of the college at the High Desert Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, contributing to the betterment of the community.

On a personal note, Martha and her husband have raised three accomplished daughters, reflecting her commitment to education and the values she instilled in her family.

Martha Mendez is not merely a professional, a manager, and a leader. She is a symbol of hope, perseverance, and limitless potential. Her dedication to the community, tireless efforts in education, and unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion have left an indelible mark on the High Desert.

In a heartfelt tribute to Martha Mendez, a dedicated and passionate Program Manager at Victor Valley College, California State Senator Scott Wilk has named her the Hispanic Community Member for 2023. This honor recognizes Martha’s exceptional journey and her significant contributions to the community.

Martha Mendez’s story is a testament to the enduring spirit of her immigrant parents and the American dream. Born in the United States to hardworking immigrant parents, Martha embarked on a journey to forge her future as a first-generation American, one of six siblings.

From an early age, she committed herself to mastering the English language, embracing American culture, and preserving her Hispanic heritage.

Martha’s educational journey brought her to Victor Valley College, where she quickly distinguished herself as a force to be reckoned with. Serving as the Associated Student Body President, she later joined the college as a graduate, where her mission was to secure and expand resources for underserved and underrepresented students. Martha’s relentless efforts and grant-writing skills brought millions of dollars to the High Desert, creating opportunities for those who needed them most.

Notably, Martha played a crucial role in

bringing the GEAR UP program to the community, enhancing extracurricular resources and after-school programs in various high school campuses. Her most significant achievement lies in her regional efforts to align Adult Education programs across the High Desert, doubling the program’s size, securing WASC accreditation for multiple districts, and bringing additional funding opportunities to the region.

In the realm of ESL classes, Martha doubled enrollment and expanded course offerings, making a meaningful impact on countless individuals seeking to improve their language skills.

Martha is now embarking on the noble endeavor of launching a CTE Medical Spanish language program, preparing Spanishspeaking locals for careers in impacted industries and demonstrating her commitment to innovation and inclusivity.

VVC ASB visits Washington DC Student leaders attend annual conference for advocacy

The Associated Student Body (ASB) at Victor Valley College recently embarked on an unforgettable journey to the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. This extraordinary week-long expedition was more than just a sightseeing adventure—it was a profound exploration of the city’s rich historical and cultural tapestry.

The ASB members seized the opportunity to delve into the heart of American democracy, meeting with elected officials and leaders to gain insights into the intricate workings of the nation’s political system.

Throughout the week, the ASB immersed themselves in the palpable history surrounding them. Visits to iconic sites such as the U.S. Capitol left an indelible impression, allowing our students to connect with the very roots of the American story. Beyond the monuments,

the group actively participated in community engagement by volunteering at the Cherry Blossom Festival, exemplifying the Rams’ commitment to service and camaraderie.

One of the highlights of the trip was the chance to engage directly with representatives from California’s congressional delegation.

ASB members had the privilege of visiting the offices of esteemed leaders such as U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (California) and Assemblyman Jay Obernolte (Hesperia). These interactions provided a platform for fruitful discussions on issues directly affecting their community, reinforcing the ASB’s commitment to being informed advocates for positive change.

This immersive experience was not only

an educational adventure but also a unique opportunity for our ASB members to hone their leadership skills. By navigating the intricate corridors of power and engaging with the pulse of the nation, they gained invaluable insights that will undoubtedly shape their roles as future leaders.
