SUMMER 1981...45 Years Ago Alot has sure changed in the 65 year history at VVC. Back in 1981, things were way more simpler as far as goals or suggestions go to improve campus life,. You can see to the left that the college newspaper published its Campus suggestions for the student body 45 years ago!

Today, our nationally recognized and award-winning Associated Student Body creates annual goals that continue that mission on envolving and elevating culture for RAMS. Take a look at the 2026-2027 ASB Goals below: 1.Recognizing that student mental health affects student success, the ASB Council will foster awareness of student wellness services such as: Student Health Center Thrive Center 2. To enrich student life and campus culture, ASB will promote diverse social, cultural and educational activities.

3. In support of improved campus safety, the ASB Council will collaborate with the Vice President of Administrative Services to implement: Safety education opportunities Additional lighting on lower campus Emergency communication resources 4. The Associated Student Body will work with marketing to establish local and meaningful discounts for ASB cardholders.

5. In support of the full year registration, the Associated Student Body requests that the Vice President of Administrative Services provide the opportunity for students to purchase year-round parking.

6. ASB requests the President’s Cabinet explore the implementation of a laptop loaning program.

7. ASB will work with the Vice President of Instruction to increase access to high-demand courses in disciplines such as engineering, physics, and upper division math.

8. In response to student demands and needs, ASB will work with the Vice President of Instruction to explore and expand course, certificate, and degree offerings, including multimedia arts and community education.

9. The ASB Council requests the installation of tamper-proof mirrors in restrooms.

10. The ASB Council will advocate for the improvement of campus signage and wayfinding maps with the Vice President of Administrative Services.

And the celebration isn’t over yet.

As Victor Valley College kicks off its 65th year of serving the High Desert, the Fall 2026 semester is already off to an unforgettable start. Everything from community-building activities and campus celebrations to student support initiatives and athletic excitement, the first week of Fall for the RAMS is spotlighting exactly what makes VVC special: a campus community that genuinely cares.

The Week of Welcome will conclude with one of the most anticipated events of the semester: the first home football game of the season this Saturday, August 29, at RAM Stadium. Dubbed the “RAMS Gold Rush,” the event is expected to bring together students, employees, families, alumni, and community members for an evening of school spirit and athletic excellence.

VVC’s Dean of KHAD, Artie Allen, says the goal for this end of week event is simple, “pack the stands and create a sea of gold in support of our student-athletes. We are encouraging everyone to wear their favorite gold attire and help us showcase the pride, spirit, and excellence.”

Under the August sun with temperatures soaring into triple digits, students arrived for the start of classes and were greeted by more than just syllabi and schedules. Across campus, the spirit of the Caring Campus initiative was on full display as employees, departments, and student leaders worked together to create a welcoming environment for new and returning Rams.

One of the week’s most popular stops was the RAMS Café mobile unit. The cafe served it up right with students enjoying delicious tri-tip tacos while reconnecting with friends and classmates. Nearby, Caring Campus teams were helping students beat the heat by distributing ice cream and offering friendly faces, helpful guidance, and inviting welcomes throughout the week.

Adding to the excitement, RAMS Report sponsor Raising Cane’s joined the welcome festivities by providing nearly 800 cups of sweet tea and lemonade to students looking for relief from the summer temperatures.

The restaurant also handed out Raising Cane’s merchandise, creating plenty of smiles and helping students stay cool during a particularly hot week on campus.

VVC ASB Secretary Katherine Salazar says that her first week “has been amazing,” although she admits to being a “tiny bit nervous,” however, she has some friends in her classes which make it less intimidating for some of her classes.

“My first week has been good, I’m a little nervous with some classes but I’ve already made friends in the classes and I’m wishing the best for everyone and their studies.” said VVC ASB Student Advocate Julie Ponce.

Meanwhile, everyone’s favorite mascot, Rammy, took to Instagram Live for a series of campus tours and behind-the-scenes features. Through live broadcasts and social media engagement, Rammy highlighted programs, departments, resources, and services available to students, helping many discover opportunities they may not have otherwise known existed. “It’s important to introduce students to academic support programs, student services, or campus involvement opportunities, Rammy’s energetic personality helps bring the VVC experience to life online,” said VVC Associated Student Body President & Student Trustee Melissa Pulaski.

The week’s activities have reinforced a simple but powerful message: success at Victor Valley College starts with connection. Across campus, students have been encouraged to ask questions, build relationships, seek support, and become active participants in the college community.

Fans are encouraged to wear gold VVC as they cheer on a football program that has captured back-to-back American Metro League championships. The celebration will also highlight the incredible accomplishments of Rams Athletics, including Men’s Golf’s fourth-place state finish, Men’s Wrestling’s three consecutive SECWA championships, and Women’s Wrestling’s SECWA title and State Championship appearance.

As Victor Valley College embarks on its 65th year, the energy on campus is undeniable.

The first days of the Fall 2026 semester have already demonstrated the college’s commitment to creating an environment where students feel welcomed, supported, and connected.

Karmen Padfield: Meet the new VVC School of STEM Dean!

VICTORVILLE — Victor Valley College (VVC) is announcing the appointment of Karmen Padfield as the college’s new Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Padfield brings more than 15 years of experience in healthcare education, leadership, mentorship, and student success, along with a deep understanding of Victor Valley College and its mission.

Padfield began her journey at Victor Valley College in 2009 as an adjunct faculty member in Nursing and Allied Health. Since then, she has served the institution in a variety of leadership roles, including fulltime faculty member, Assistant Director, and most recently Director of Nursing and Allied Health. Throughout her tenure, she has remained committed to strengthening academic programs, supporting students, and fostering collaboration across disciplines.

“Stepping into the Dean of STEM role is truly both an honor and a privilege,” said Padfield. “Victor Valley College has been my professional home since I began as an adjunct faculty member, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to grow alongside this amazing institution. Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how education can transform lives, open doors, and create hope for the future. Those experiences have shaped my commitment to leading with collaboration, compassion, and a student-centered focus.”

Padfield’s professional background spans diverse healthcare settings and international experiences, giving her a broad perspective on leadership, program development, and student engagement. She believes that every student brings unique experiences and strengths to the classroom and is committed to creating learning environments that encourage innovation, confidence, and success.

“Whether in healthcare, leadership, or working with people from different backgrounds and cultures, I’ve learned that everyone has a unique story and something valuable to contribute,” said Padfield. “I believe in working closely with faculty to foster innovative, student-centered learning experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, and prepare students for meaningful careers.”

As Dean of STEM, Padfield’s priorities include expanding opportunities for hands-

on learning, mentorship, internships, and partnerships that connect students with real-world experiences. She also hopes to strengthen pathways that help students seamlessly transfer to four-year universities and enter high-demand careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and healthcare.

“I hope to create more opportunities for students to get hands-on experience, connect with mentors, explore internships, and build clear pathways to universities and careers,” Padfield said. “Most importantly, students pursuing STEM or healthcare should feel supported, confident, and excited about their future.”

Mentorship has been a defining theme throughout Padfield’s career. She plans to continue fostering a culture of belonging by expanding peer mentoring, faculty mentoring, STEM clubs, and industry partnerships that help students build meaningful relationships and discover new opportunities.

“Students are most successful when they feel connected, supported, and encouraged to explore new ideas,” Padfield said.

“By creating spaces where students can collaborate, learn from one another, and build meaningful relationships with faculty, we can foster a strong sense of belonging.”

A lifelong learner herself, Padfield holds a master’s degree in nursing education and leadership, completed post-master’s graduate studies as a Family Nurse Practitioner, and is currently pursuing a

doctorate in Educational Leadership. She hopes her own educational journey serves as an example for students striving to achieve their goals.

“One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that learning never ends,” Padfield said. “Success isn’t about having a perfect path. It’s about persistence, resilience, and a willingness to keep moving forward. If you stay focused on your goals and take advantage of the opportunities around you, you can achieve more than you ever imagined.”

Looking toward the future, Padfield is optimistic about the transformative impact STEM education can have on the High Desert region.

“STEM education has the power to change lives, not just for individual students, but for entire families and communities,” she said. “When students gain the skills and confidence to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and healthcare, they create a ripple effect that strengthens our workforce, supports local businesses, and improves the quality of life in the High Desert. Investing in STEM is really an investment in the future of our community.”

Through her leadership, Padfield hopes to help students discover new possibilities, pursue their passions, and build meaningful careers while advancing Victor Valley College’s commitment to educational excellence and workforce development. achievement, and plenty of Ram pride.

VVC’s New Top Cop: Learn More about The New Chief of Police!

VICTORVILLE — Victor Valley College (VVC) is announcing the appointment of Kent Gallacher as the college’s new Chief of Police. A dedicated law enforcement professional with more than 20 years of public safety experience, Gallacher officially assumed the role after serving as Interim Chief of Police since September 2025.

Gallacher’s law enforcement career began in April 2006 with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, where he served for 15 years in a variety of assignments and leadership roles, including patrol operations in the High Desert region. During his tenure, he also served on the Sheriff’s Honor Guard, demonstrating a longstanding commitment to service, professionalism, and community engagement.

In 2021, Gallacher joined Victor Valley College as a Police Field Supervisor, bringing his extensive law enforcement experience to higher education. Over the past five years, he has played a key role in strengthening campus safety, fostering partnerships across the college, and supporting a culture centered on service and student success.

“Being selected as Chief of Police is a tremendous honor,” said Gallacher. “I have always enjoyed being part of a productive team with a shared purpose of helping others. This role presents an incredible opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students, employees, and visitors by helping create an environment where people can learn, grow, and pursue their goals.”

Gallacher holds a Bachelor’s degree and earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration in 2013. His educational background helped shape his transition from traditional law enforcement into the educational environment, where he believes public safety plays a critical role in supporting student achievement and institutional success.

As Chief of Police, Gallacher’s vision centers on creating a campus environment where students, faculty, staff, and visitors feel safe, welcomed, and supported.

“My vision for Victor Valley College

is a campus where safety serves as the foundation for learning, teaching, and personal growth,” Gallacher said.

“Effective public safety is not only about responding to emergencies. It is also about identifying concerns before they become crises, building relationships, and working collaboratively with our campus partners to maintain a safe and secure environment.”

Gallacher emphasizes a service-oriented approach to campus policing, one that prioritizes visibility, trust, and positive interactions throughout the campus community.

“Students are most successful when they feel safe and supported,” he said. “We want students to view campus police not only as first responders, but as trusted resources they can turn to for assistance. Building relationships and fostering trust are essential to that mission.”

“Strong teams are built on trust, communication, consistency, and mutual respect,” Gallacher said. “When people feel valued and empowered, positive culture follows naturally. Investing in employee growth ultimately strengthens the entire organization.”

Beyond his professional responsibilities, Gallacher enjoys participating in competitive cornhole tournaments, riding motorcycles, and occasionally singing karaoke. However, he says his greatest motivation remains helping others.

“Law enforcement provides an opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives, whether that’s helping someone through a difficult situation, solving a problem, or simply being there when assistance is needed,” Gallacher said. “Knowing that our work can have a meaningful impact on others is what continues to inspire me.”

A strong advocate for mentorship and leadership development, Gallacher cites training and guiding others as some of the most meaningful accomplishments of his career. As a former Field Training Officer with the Sheriff’s Department, he helped train and mentor numerous new officers, shaping the next generation of law enforcement professionals. He continues that commitment today through employee development and team-building efforts at Victor Valley College.

Looking ahead, Gallacher hopes to leave a lasting legacy built on trust, professionalism, and community connection.
