MEDITATION (1997) Program Notes Meditation was originally written for my wife Victoria, for our wedding. The wedding program also included a fanfare I had written for six trumpets. The piece is inspired by Victoria’s passion for Irish fiddle playing, and also incorporates the melody for the Israeli or Hebrew wedding song Dodi Li (My Beloved is Mine). Victoria and I both have Irish fathers, and since my mother’s side of the family is Jewish, this piece was a sort of symbolic joining of two families and traditions. I also felt like it would be interesting to incorporate a Hebrew theme into a piece for the pipe organ, an instrument that is more closely associated with Christian tradition.

Performance Notes The regestration is left up to the performer. However, the Introduction should have a fairly calm sound. A Baroque-style sound for the remainder of the piece is preferred.
