FRONT WING SHAPES IN FOILING: WHAT CHANGES AND WHY

Choosing the right foil sail may seem like a deep dive into technical specifications, but that’s part of the fun, right? There are two ways to do it: rely on the experts or figure out the details yourself. If you’re up for the challenge, below we’ve broken down all the key specifications to help you understand how each element translates to performance on the water. But if you want to cut to the chase, RRD has done the work for you. Our foil wing are built for progression, stability and pure riding pleasure, tested by top athletes and designed to push your limits. Contact us for expert advice and the right equipment to take your sessions to the next level!

Outline

The outline of a front wing works a lot like a surfboard shape—chord (width), span (length), and curve all define how it rides.

There are two main styles:

• Rounded outlines provide a smoother, more progressive feel in carves. They grip the water in a fluid, controlled manner, making them more forgiving.

• Stretched outlines prioritize speed and glide. They sacrifice some forgiveness in exchange for maximum performance, allowing experienced riders to push their limits in turns and generate more drive than rounder wings.

Fine-tuned profile adjustments further shape the riding experience:

• A rounded leading edge enhances carving ability.

• Pulled-back tips improve self-stabilization.

• A centered surface area boosts rail-to-rail response.

• More surface area at the tips increases stability but reduces agility.

A/R Aspect Ratio

• Low Aspect Ratio: These wings have a rounder, wider shape, offering great lift, stability, and easy turning. They are perfect for beginners, foil school.

• Mid Aspect Ratio: A balanced shape that combines lift, speed, and maneuverability. These wings work well for freeride and surf, giving a mix of control and efficiency.

• High Aspect Ratio: Long and narrow, these wings provide maximum glide, efficiency, and upwind performance. They are ideal for racing and experienced riders who want more speed and better pumping ability.

Chord

The chord of a front wing is its max width from leading edge to trailing edge. It plays a huge role in lift and accessibility.

• Wings with a bigger chord generate more low-speed lift, making takeoff easier and keeping you flying even at slow speeds. They’re more forgiving but create more drag, limiting glide.

• Wings with a smaller chord are way more technical. They don’t generate as much lift at low speed, making takeoff trickier, but once up, they unlock higher speeds, more glide, and less front foot pressure, letting you stay foiling with minimal effort.

Wide chord = easy lift, low-speed stability

Narrow chord = speed, glide, and efficiency.

Wingspan

Wingspan is the full tip-to-tip width of the wing, and it seriously affects stability and handling.

• Shorter wingspan = easier, more reactive turns with less effort. The foil rolls into carves smoothly and feels super playful.

• Longer wingspan = bigger, drawn-out turns with more glide. It adds stability at high speeds but makes low-speed riding trickier and less maneuverable.

Short wingspan = snappy and loose; long wingspan = fast, efficient, and stable.

Thickness

Thickness refers to the maximum profile depth of a wing, directly impacting lift, drag, and efficiency.

A thicker profile generates more lift at low speeds, making takeoff easier and keeping the foil flying with minimal effort. However, it also increases drag, reducing glide and top speed. A thinner profile is more efficient, offering better glide and higher speeds, but requires more energy to generate lift, making takeoff more technical. Beyond raw thickness, thickness relative to the chord is key. Within the same wing range, thickness scales with chord size. Smaller wings (for lighter riders or strong wind) are thinner for efficiency. Larger wings (for heavier riders or light wind) are thicker to provide the necessary lift.

• Thicker profiles = more lift at low speed, easier takeoff, but more drag.

• Thinner profiles = better glide, higher speeds, but trickier takeoff.

TUNE YOUR FOIL: CORRECT MAST POSITIONING FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE

To adjust your foil correctly, it’s essential to understand how its position in the US box rails affects performance. Here are some practical tips for achieving optimal foil setup on an RRD board. Proper positioning enhances stability, control, and overall ride efficiency.

Correct screws for your foil

4x M8 Screw 4x Nuts

Ideal position

Moving the foil forward lifts the nose, ideal for heavier riders or light wind. Shifting it back improves stability and reduces nose pitching.

Find the right balance

Don’t place the foil too far forward, as it limits back foot control and can cause fatigue. A slight rearward shift helps balance your stance and reduces effort.

Adjustment to your level

Beginners should position the foil slightly behind the center for easier take-off. As they improve, moving it closer to the center provides more control. Advanced riders can shift it forward for more lift but shouldn’t go too far to maintain balance and back foot engagement.

ALU OR CARBON ?

Deciding whether to buy a carbon or aluminum foil is an important choice that requires considering several factors. If you’re a beginner and want to take your first flights with a wing, an aluminum mast is a great option, preferably a shorter one. RRD offers four aluminum mast sizes: 50, 65, 75, and 85 cm. These different lengths allow you to gradually progress in your style and get closer to your ideal setup. If you’re riding up to 16 knots, an aluminum mast works perfectly. Our aluminum mast offers great performance. However, if you’re a rider looking for more speed, beyond 18 knots, with lightness and control, we recommend opting for a carbon mast.

The carbon mast provides more stiffness and reflex, allowing you to stay fully in control in all riding styles, whether it’s Freestyle, Wave, Freeride, or Race.

1. Durability: Aluminum foils are tough and resistant to damage, making them ideal for beginners or those who want a more durable setup.

2. Cost-effective: Aluminum foils are generally more affordable than carbon foils, offering good performance at a lower price point.

1. Lightweight: Carbon foils are lighter, which enhances responsiveness, agility, and ease of control, especially in advanced riding.

2. Increased Stiffness: The greater stiffness of carbon provides more power transfer and control, improving performance in high-speed conditions and for more technical maneuvers.

1. Heavier: Aluminum foils are generally heavier than carbon foils, which can affect responsiveness and performance, especially at higher speeds.

2. Less Stiffness: While durable, aluminum lacks the stiffness of carbon, which can limit performance in more advanced riding styles, like high-speed racing or aggressive maneuvers.

1. Cost: Carbon foils are more expensive than aluminum, making them less accessible for beginners or budget-conscious riders.

2. Fragility: Carbon is more prone to damage from impacts, especially in beginners’ use, and may require more careful handling.

INFLATABLE OR COMPOSITE ?

Choosing between an inflatable or composite board for wing foiling depends on performance expectations, transport needs, and durability considerations.

A composite board offers superior responsiveness, direct feedback, and a more efficient power transfer between the foil and rider. Built with from composite materials like carbon or fiberglass, it ensures maximum stiffness, enhancing acceleration, carving precision, and control in high-performance maneuvers. However, rigid boards are bulkier and more fragile, requiring dedicated storage and transport solutions.

Inflatable boards, made with drop-stitch technology, provide a compact, travel-friendly alternative. They are easy to store, lightweight, and more forgiving in case of falls or impacts. While modern designs have improved stiffness, they still lack the direct feel and responsiveness of a rigid board. For beginners or frequent travelers, an inflatable board is a practical solution.

QUICK LOCK PLATE®

REGISTERED TRADE MARK AND PATENTED

The Quicklock plate is an innovative solution to speed up the assembly of your hydrofoil to the board. Through the use of the Quicklock plate you can fit the hydrofoil mast to the board using one single screw and enter the water in a few seconds while always maintaining your ideal setup.

The Quicklock plate is super strong and reliable for all foil uses and is 100% safe. We have developed a solid system that avoids any lateral and axial movement and therefore provides maximum rigidity.

The new Quicklock plate can be used with both the UNIVERSAL ALU MAST Y26 (produced with high collar and side screws) the UNIVERSAL ALU MAST Y27 and the UNIVERSAL SWKC1 CARBON MAST Y29 and Y30.

TOP PLATE SHIM

The SHIM is an innovative solution to change the angle of attack of your hydrofoil. This simple plate makes your riding easier as you will benefit from riding with the nose up. Get easier takeoffs, avoid hitting chops in wavy conditions and land easier from jumps. The SHIM plate allows you to modify the angle of your hydrofoil by up to 9mm for a wide tuning range. It is developed for the Air Beluga Pro and Air Beluga to enhance your setup options.

Up your nose!

FLEX TORSION & TWIST

Considering the mast as the spine of the hydrofoil body, we need to consider the forces that apply to the system:

PITCH

MAST FLEX AND FOIL ROLL:

Controlling the flex of a mast means to better control the “roll” of the foil. If a foil rolls easily, it is hard to control and the foil becomes very nervous and unstable to ride. Controlling the roll of the foil through a lower flex of the mast is by far the most important improvement on our foils this year to allow extra stability and a comfortable and secure  feel.

MAST TWIST AND FOIL YAW:

Until recently the effects of Yaw on the hydrofoil have been largely underestimated. The Yaw is the twisting/ rotational force applied to the mast whilst riding the hydrofoil. This twisting creates a side drag of the foil that depending on the speed of the foil, can quickly lead to a complete loss of control. This is the most important feature on a hydrofoil mast to allow better average and top end speed.

RRD TEST METHOD

• MEASURING THE MAST STIFFNESS (both lateral and torsional) has been a constant exercise for us this year. For this purpose we have created our standard measuring system to calculate mast stiffness: We fix the mast to a special structure on the wall. This structure will fit either the top plate with 4 screws or a deep tuttle head (racing hydrofoils).

• MEASURING LATERAL STIFFNESS  (or mast flex):  Once the mast is attached to the wall, we measure its distance to a bar placed parallel to the mast. Then we attach a 30 kgs weight to the end of the mast and measure the new distance from the bar. The difference is the SIDE FLEX. A higher distance number will indicate a mast with lower lateral stiffness (softer mast to side pressure).

• MEASURING TORSIONAL STIFFNESS (or mast twist): Once the mast is equipped  with its fuselage and is attached to the wall, we lock the fuselage aligned with the line of the leading edge of the mast, so it cannot bend towards the floor when under pressure. Then we apply a load by attaching a 30 kgs weight on the rear part of fuselage at 36 cms from the middle line of the mast. The measurement is taken from the floor and the difference between the loaded fuselage and the unloaded fuselage is the Mast Twist measurement. A higher number will indicate a higher twist (lower torsional stiffness).

TWIST

HYDROFOILS RANGE

This simple chart will help you determine the right foil for your needs, whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or expert. RRD’s wide range of foils allows you to start as a beginner and progressively adapt as your style and performance improve. Thanks to the universal system, you can easily swap masts, fuselages, and front and rear wings without replacing the entire foil.

WHAT ARE THE SHIMS ?

Shims are small inserts used to adjust the angle of the rear wing, fine-tuning the foil’s lift and stability. The RRD Universal fuselage allows the installation of plastic shims to customize performance. Three options are available: Black (0°), Orange (0.75°), and White (1.5°), giving riders the flexibility to modify their setup for different riding styles and conditions.

+0°

+0.75°

+1.50°

NEUTRAL MORE PRESSURE HIGH PRESSURE

The Black shim (0°) is in a neutral position, providing balanced pressure on the rider and even weight distribution on the front foot. It ensures a stable and well-balanced board, making it ideal for riders who want to learn and gain maximum confidence with their foil.

The Orange shim (0.75°) creates slightly more pressure under the front foot, offering a good lift during take-off and improved control while riding. It also provides some pop for jumps and aerial maneuvers, making it a great choice for riders looking to progress and perform more dynamic tricks.

The White shim (1.5°) creates significant pressure under the front foot, offering quick lift for fast take-offs. It’s especially suited for freestyle and big air maneuvers, providing the necessary performance for advanced tricks and jumps.

WARNING: The sets that use the Universal Plus fuselage, such as the Blaze LTD, Thunder, Mantaray, and Flying Fish, must always be used with a shim included in the RRD set. They cannot be used without one. The universal Plus fuselage can only be used with adjustable rear wings.

CORRECT STRAPS POSITION

MAKE A TEST TO ENSURE THE STRAPS ARE CORRECTLY ADJUSTED: THE STRAPS MUST NEITHER BE TOO LOOSE NOR TOO TIGHT. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO EASILY SLIDE YOUR FEET INTO THE STRAPS AND REMOVE THEM WITHOUT DIFFICULTY. HOWEVER, THERE SHOULD BE NO GAP BETWEEN THE TOP OF YOUR FOOT AND THE STRAP; THEY MUST BE IN CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER. NOTE THAT THIS SETTING MUST BE ADJUSTED IF YOU ARE RIDING WITH NEOPRENE BOOTIES OR BAREFOOT.”

Adjust the width of your footstrap by selecting the row of holes that fits the size of your feet.

SPREAD TOW BIAXIAL INNEGRA CARBON DECK LAYUP

SPREAD TOW INNEGRA BARBON is one of the most advanced technologies we use in the construction of our boards. This innovative material is known for its lightweight and stiffness, delivering high performance without compromising strength. It enhances durability, making the boards even more resistant to impacts and stresses.

Is ideal for those seeking maximum performance in extreme conditions, without sacrificing strength or longevity. Exclusively developed for RRD, this biaxial material has been custom-designed with an inner PP filament within the fabric, creating a distinctive signature that is uniquely RRD.

RRD HYDROFOIL UNIVERSAL LINE

Our foils are called “Universal” because the fuselage is compatible with both aluminum and carbon masts, offering maximum versatility. Additionally, the front and rear wings can be swapped freely to suit different conditions and riding styles. This extreme compatibility in the front wing connection allows riders to customize their setup for optimal performance.

THE EVOLUTION OF RRD WINGS

In the world of wingfoiling, every detail makes a difference—from weight to stiffness, durability to power delivery. RRD has developed an innovative construction that combines advanced materials to achieve top performance in all conditions. By integrating ALUULA technology with RECTEX Dacron in strategic areas, the new RRD wings offer the perfect balance of lightness, responsiveness, and durability.

WING TECHNOLOGY ALUULA® RECTEX DACRON

ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT PERFORMANCE

At the core of our wing structure is ALUULA fabric, weighing just 82 g/m²—an ultra-light material that drastically reduces overall weight while maintaining exceptional strength and creating a super rigid frame, that enhances stability, responsiveness, and control. This results in a balanced feel, effortless handling, and improved pumping efficiency. Whether carving waves or launching jumps, ALUULA technology ensures a direct, reactive connection to the wind.

REINFORCED STRENGTH AND STABILITY

To ensure optimal rigidity and long-term durability, we have incorporated RECTEX Dacron at 140 g/m² in the tips and 160 g/m² in the leading edge. This selective use of reinforced materials strengthens the most stressed areas, enhancing wing stability and power transmission. The result is a precise, controlled feel with instant responsiveness, ideal for both freeride cruising and wave riding.

BOOM OR HANDLE ?

CHOOSING THE RIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM

Booms offer continuous grip, precise control, and better power transfer—ideal for freestyle and racing. Handles provide a lighter, more compact setup, perfect for freeride and wave riding. Beginners and instructors benefit from handles’ intuitive, user-friendly design. Choose based on your riding style and performance goals.

1. Precise control – Offers consistent hand placement, making it ideal for freestyle and racing maneuvers.

2. Better power transfer – The added rigidity improves responsiveness, providing a more direct feel and better control during high-performance riding.

1. More bulky packing - Using the boom does not allow more a quick folding of the wing inside its bag , like you do with the handles.

1. Ideal for beginners and teaching – Provides a more intuitive and forgiving feel, making it easier for new riders to learn and for instructors to teach.

1. Less precise control – Fixed handle positions limit adjustability, which can affect performance in advanced maneuvers.

ALU OR CARBON ?

EVOLUTION WING LINE

Our wings come equipped with handles, but there is also the option to mount a boom instead. This applies to both the Evolution Gold Wing and the Evolution Wing. The available booms come in three sizes: S, M, and L, and are available in aluminum and carbon versions. The aluminum boom is a more affordable option, making it ideal for schools and rental centers. On the other hand, the carbon boom is significantly lighter, making it a great choice for all riders. Using a boom provides better control and improved maneuverability, making it perfect for more radical freestyle moves and advanced handling on the water.

GOLD WING BOOM / WIND WING BOOM

For the Wind Wing Boom and Gold Wing Boom, there are different types of booms. All booms are full carbon. The Wind Wing Boom features a two-piece detachable boom that can pack in the wing bag , while the Gold Wing Boom comes with a one-piece boom. These booms are available in three different sizes (S, M, and L) to match the wing size.

CENTRAL STRUT SHAPE

EVOLUTION WING LINE

- Features a more continuous, curved leading edge that smoothly tapers from the center to the wingtips.

- This design likely enhances aerodynamics and provides a more traditional wing shape.

GOLD WING BOOM / WIND WING BOOM - THE “Z” SHAPE

- Has a more angular, “Z-shaped” structure, creating distinct segments in the leading edge.

- This shape could improve control, rigidity, and stability, especially in high-wind or racing conditions

DIFFERENT LEADING EDGE DESIGNS

FINDING THE RIGHT WING FOR YOUR STYLE

The shape of the leading edge plays a crucial role in a wing’s performance, directly influencing stability, agility, and ease of use. RRD has developed distinct leading edge designs to cater to different riding styles and conditions.

EVOLUTION GOLD WING AND EVOLUTION WING

COMPACT TIPS FOR AGILITY AND RELAUNCH

The Evolution Wing is designed with a more compact leading edge and shorter tips, offering greater maneuverability and ease of use. This shape is particularly beneficial for wave riding and freestyle. The compact design also improves agility, making the wing easier to control during tricks and transitions.

GOLD WING AND WINDWING BOOM

EXTENDED SHAPE FOR SPEED AND UPWIND PERFORMANCE

The Gold Wing features a longer, more extended leading edge, making it the ideal choice for racing and tight upwind angles. This design enhances aerodynamic efficiency, providing superior stability and lift at high speeds. The extended shape also improves glide and control, making it perfect for riders who prioritize upwind performance and efficiency in freeride or race conditions.

RECOMMENDED PRESSURE

GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR WING

Every wing must be inflated to the correct pressure based on the materials it is made of. The recommended PSI is always indicated on both the leading edge and the strut, ensuring that riders can set their wing up for optimal performance.

Using the correct pressure is essential to fully experience the design, responsiveness, and efficiency of the wing. An underinflated wing will feel soft and unstable, reducing power and control, while an overinflated wing may become too rigid and create damage under extreme conditions.

It’s also crucial to avoid leaving your wing in direct sunlight at maximum pressure for extended periods. Heat causes air to expand, increasing internal pressure and potentially stressing the materials. To prevent this, it’s recommended to release a bit of air when not in use, especially in hot environments.

By inflating your wing properly and following these simple precautions, you’ll ensure maximum durability, performance, and safety, allowing you to get the most out of every session.

Our pumps comes with all the necessary attachments to inflate WINGS, INFLATABLE BOARDS and KITES. With just one pump, you can inflate all your gear

ESSENTIAL SAFETY FOR WINGFOILING WRIST LEASH & WAIST LEASH

When wingfoiling, using both a wrist leash and a waist leash is crucial for safety and ensuring that you never lose your gear. Each leash serves a different purpose, helping you stay connected to both your wing and your board at all times.

WAIST LEASH

YOUR BOARD SECURE

The waist leash connects the rider to the board, preventing it from drifting away after a fall. By attaching around the waist, this leash allows for better mobility and balance compared to an ankle leash, especially in deep water starts or when recovering the board. It is an essential piece of safety equipment, ensuring that the board stays within reach at all times.

WRIST LEASH

LOSE YOUR WING

The wrist leash attaches the wing to the rider’s wrist, preventing it from flying away in strong winds or after a wipeout. This is especially important in open water or gusty conditions, where losing the wing could leave the rider stranded. The wrist leash provides quick access and control, allowing for easy recovery and a seamless riding experience.

WHY USE BOTH?

Using both leashes ensures maximum safety and convenience. Without a waist leash, the board could drift away, making it difficult to recover. Without a wrist leash, the wing could get carried away by the wind, putting the rider in a dangerous situation. By always using both a wrist leash and a waist leash, you can ride with confidence, knowing your gear will always be within reach, no matter the conditions.

SAFETY FIRST IN WINGFOILING PROTECT YOURSELF

When practicing wingfoiling, wearing a helmet and an impact vest is essential for your safety. These protective elements help minimize risks and ensure a safer riding experience, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced rider.

RRD HELMETS

FULL PROTECTION WITH STYLE

RRD offers helmets in sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, and XXL, designed to provide maximum comfort and protection. Available in different colors, including orange, white, and gray, these helmets not only shield your head from impacts but also ensure high visibility in the water. A properly fitted helmet can prevent serious injuries, making it a must-have for every wingfoiler.

RRD IMPACT VEST

DESIGNED FOR SAFETY AND PERFORMANCE

The RRD impact vest is carefully designed to protect vital areas from possible impacts with the foil and to absorb the shock of harder falls into the water. In addition to impact protection, the vest also provides extra buoyancy, making it easier to stay afloat in challenging conditions.

RIDE SAFE, RIDE SMART

Using a helmet and impact vest is not just about safety—it’s about confidence. By wearing the right protective gear, you can push your limits, improve your skills, and fully enjoy your wingfoiling sessions with peace of mind.

SAFETY

READ THIS MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE USING YOUR RRD HYDROFOIL AND KEEP IT STORED FOR FUTURE READING

RRD strongly recommends to follow hydrofoil wind / kite / surf / SUP/ WING lessons in a specialized school before using a hydrofoil for the first time. The use of a hydrofoil involves inherent risks and can cause severe injuries or, sometimes fatal, accidents if misused.

Please check under the tab <schools> on the following website www.robertoriccidesigns.com to find your nearest school. When using a hydrofoil, you agree to take full responsibility for your own safety and those of others. This includes informing subsequent users/owners of your equipment of the risks and responsibilities involved. Before practicing, make sure that you are properly covered by an insurance for any damage or injuries caused to third parties while practicing watersports. Please refer to your national surf body or federation to get more information on insurance and responsibilities.

Be aware that the design and construction of the hydrofoil involves sharp and stiff edges that could easily cause severe abrasions and/or cuts. It is very highly recommended to familiarize yourself with the dimensions, weight, behaviour of the hydrofoil both assembled and unassambled to the board while carrying it to the water and/or keeping it on the beach. Never leave the hydrofoil unattended on the beach. Any wind changes might cause the hydrofoil to move, fly away and cause severe damages to you and/or the others around the hydrofoil.

SAFETY TIPS:

Constant care and caution remains the best way to avoid any problem but specialized equipment contributes to your own safety as well. Please keep in mind that wind and weather can be unpredictable and that no-one can be in full control of the hydrofoil at all times.

WARNING MESSAGE

•Always familiarize yourself with all applicable federal, state and local laws, the waterways, the area, and the proper use of the equipment.

•Always read your owner’s manual and understand your equipment before using it.

•Always inspect equipment before each use, including all components of your foil, your board and the connections between components and the board mount. Never use equipment with missing, damaged or defective parts.

•Use caution when transporting your foil, both for the safety of yourself and others and for the longevity of your equipment.

•Always wear protective equipment appropriate for the environment and conditions in which you are using your foil and your foil board.

•Always use a helmet.

•Always use a State/Country Marine department approved boating vest and protective shoes.

•Always ride in control, away from hazards, and at speed appropriate for your ability. Do not foil in shallow water or near shore, pilings, docks, rafts, swimmers, other watercraft or other obstacles.

•Falling and the injuries or death that may result, are inherent risks in the sport.

•Do not operate any watercraft (windsurf, kite, surf, or foil gear) under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•The warnings and practices set forth above represent some common risks encountered by users.

•This list does not purport to cover all instances of risk or danger. Please use common sense and good judgment.

•TAKE YOUR TIME TO GET TO KNOW YOUR RRD HYDROFOIL IN YOUR OWN SAFE SPACE

A safety margin is required as the board and foil will sink to some degree when the rider gets onto the board. To prevent any risk of collision with a reef or a shoal, it is strongly recommended to walk away from the shore while keeping very carefully the board at its side, until reaching deep enough water. Avoid getting into the water in wave conditions as it could make this procedure difficult and dangerous.

When heading back to the shore, it is necessary to get off the board at the same distance from the shore that had been required to start safely. Again, it is recommended to walk back to the shore keeping the board carefully on its side.

TO KEEP THE RRD HYDROFOIL IN GOOD CONDITIONS:

After every use, make sure you always:

•Clean and rinse all the parts of the hydrofoil before storing them.

•Take apart the front and rear wing and fuselage from the mast.

•Protect the parts by storing them in their original packaging or using another appropriate protection.

•If chips, dents, or bumps appear following an impact, fill with epoxy resin or primer and sand until the local surface is smooth and clean. It is strongly recommended to let a professional handle these kinds of repairs.

•Make sure the surface of the wings remain smooth and clean. The foil works using a dynamic equilibrium and the flow around the wings can be very sensitive to any damages. Sudden stalling can happen if the surface condition of several parts are compromised.

The front and rear wings of the hydrofoil work as lifting devices. The wings create a lifting force from the flow of water that travels across them at speed. This is the reason why they are built with a specific sectional profile:

The shape of the wings’ profile shall not be modified, filled and sanded. Doing so would alter the balance and prevent the correct operation of the hydrofoil.

In order to guarantee the correct behavior and performances of the hydrofoil, the rear edge (trailing edge) of the wings must remain very thin, thereby making this part more fragile in case of impacts. During handling and use of the hydrofoil, the user should be particularly cautious with these sharp areas in order to avoid any risk of injury.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Our hydrofoil is composed of Aluminium parts (Mast and Fuselage) and Composite material parts (Front and Rear Wings) assembled together by stainless steel screws. The mast is assembled to the board using a dedicated plate with inserts. In order to maintain the assembling and disassembling process and keep a long product lifetime we strongly recommend to follow this maintenance precautions:

•After use, always disassemble the hydrofoil from the board, the wings from the fuselage and the fuselage from the mast and rinse the screw holes with fresh water.

•In order to keep the Stainless steel screw holes properly maintained and free from oxidation, we strongly recommend the use of this product: Tef-Gel made by TIKAL, (corrosion eliminator GEL) that should always be spread around the female threaded holes in the stainless steel parts.
