Just a quick note to compliment you on the Mantis 2 tent – I used it recently at a fairly high elevation with wet snow overnight and it held up really well. Then just last week I hiked with a friend and we used his (more expensive) tent, the difference was really noticeable, as we again had wet snow and the tent did not handle it well. Given the much larger dimensions of the Mantis in every aspect, I am happy to pack an extra few pounds. You have created a very good tent at an extremely reasonable price point.

The Hotcore T-100 sleeping bag punches well above its price weight. The quality of design and manufacturing is impressive from this Canadian company. The insulation is siliconized Trueloft microfibre and you get a double layer of it around the core area, between the neck and belt line. Unlike down sleeping bags, the T-100 is not afraid of wet environments.

I recently used your Roma 300 bag on a trek to Torres del Paine and Fitzroy. It worked out fine and was very comfortable to sleep in. We use thermal body-mapping construction to place the insulation where it will do the most good. You already have an insulating sleeping mat below you, and most of the sleeping bag insulation that is below will be compressed by your body weight, making it inefficient. We move some of this insulation to the top of our sleeping bags where it will trap warmth from your body.

Then we add an extra layer of TrueLoft™ insulation in the core body area, from the neckline to below the beltline, to help achieve and maintain the temperature ratings. This extra layer of insulation will trap more warmth from the body than comparable sleeping bags, while adding very little to the weight, size, and cost of the sleeping bag. Think of it as putting on a jacket, the first thing we all do when we need to stay warm.

The polyester rainfly and floor have a PU coating to keep the water out. For example, with a 1500 mm coating, the fabric can withstand a 1500 mm column of water for more than one minute before a drop might work its way through this fabric. That is good enough to stop rain in most hurricane storms.

Hotcore Tents have a 1200-2000 mm PU coating on the rainfly and floor; enough protection for your greatest adventures.

ACCESSORIES

Polyester fabric has advantages over nylon when used as a tent rainfly. Polyester is more UV resistant, so exposure to the sun’s rays will not degrade the fabric as quickly as nylon. Also, polyester does not stretch when dealing with water and rain.

This allows the entire tent to maintain its proper shape, thereby continuing to protect you from further rain and wind.
