Positioned as the primary gathering space within the west wing of the maison, Robert Brown has conceived a salon that is as imaginative as it is refined, embodying a unique blend of cleverness and chic sophistication. While the room fluidly connects adjacent spaces, its lack of exterior windows and natural light necessitated the bold use of color and pattern as an essential design choice. In response, Brown masterfully executed one of his hallmark design philosophies: the artful play of "high contrast." He deftly juxtaposes contemporary and traditional elements, balancing boldness with subtlety, and blending tactile textures with ethereal forms. To harmonize the salon’s organic shape, Brown introduced a grand, abstract mural on a backdrop of textural linen burlap. Crafted with exquisite scale and color by the artisans at Calico Wallpaper, the mural elevates the walls into an audacious expression of contemporary art. Interior portières were fashioned by The Shade Store out of textiles from his friends at Sanderson to balance and soften the space.
The room is further distinguished by a carefully curated collection of antiques, including a Louis XVI walnut commode and demilune from favorite antiquarian William Word. Brown also used two pairs of Bergères from his personal collection. These pieces complement the Parisian-inspired architecture, characterized by aged oak parquet floors, millwork, and soaring ceilings. The salon is completed with a layer of modern furniture from Baker Furniture and Arteriors. All of these fine points were meticulously selected to resonate with the important contemporary art beautifully curated by CoCollect, achieving a seamless blend of past and present.
