Charitable recipients of this work include a university in Pennsylvania, a university based in New York, a school in Los Angeles, various Hillel organizations, several academies, Jewish camps located in different regions, programs that support trips to Israel for young adults, and other community-based organizations. Through KFF, he has maintained a commitment to strengthening learning and Jewish engagement in a wide range of settings
In 2022, he founded the Neshamah Project Inc in the United States and the Neshamah Project RA in Israel These organizations were created to develop the Neshamah Platform and Neshamah App (“Neshamah”). Neshamah is designed as a broad digital space that brings together music, Jewish learning, prayer, podcasts, videos, and short interactive digital activities It places these resources in a single setting intended to feel accessible and easy to use. The platform supports individual users and offers white-labeled spaces that enable organizations, synagogues, schools, camps, on-campus groups, and content creators to present their own materials alongside a much larger library. This approach allows communities to maintain their
own identities while also accessing a shared resource that encourages connection and discovery.
A History of Family Survival and Strength to Strive
Robert Kasirer is the son of Holocaust survivors His mother was imprisoned in Auschwitz, while his father was sent to a forced labor camp Most of their extended family members were killed at Auschwitz. Both came from a village called Bistra in the Carpathian Mountains, which is now part of Ukraine His father trained as a shoemaker, and after losing his own father at 13, he began working for an uncle to help support the family These early hardships shaped the values and sense of responsibility that he later passed on.
His parents met after liberation, married, and moved to Bregenz, Austria, while they waited for a visa to emigrate to the United States. Both he and his younger sister were born in Bregenz, and another sister was later born in Los Angeles after the family arrived there to begin a new chapter. His parents were devout Jews who strongly believed in helping build and strengthen Jewish life in their new city When they arrived in Los Angeles in 1954, the Jewish community had few students, few schools, limited camps, and few synagogues His parents helped found a Jewish elementary school, helped establish a Jewish Girls' High School, and participated in the development of synagogues They also extended support to Jewish institutions in New York and Israel, continuing their belief in rebuilding community after the losses of the war
Their mission was to ensure that the memory of the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust would not be forgotten, and that young Jews would stay connected to their heritage and identity. This message was taught to him from a young age. At 13, he attended a Jewish boarding school in New York, where he studied both secular subjects and Jewish learning He continued his Jewish studies throughout his years in higher education, maintaining a connection to learning that would shape his personal and professional life
His Education and Career Trajectory
He attended a university in New York and later enrolled in a law school located in the same state After passing the New York bar, he moved to Los Angeles and joined two associates to form a law firm specializing in public finance. Their firm served as Bond Counsel and Underwriters Counsel in hundreds of millions of dollars of financing transactions across the United States. After several years, he joined a national law firm as Of Counsel before partnering with his father in 1984
Together, he and his father formed a real estate company focused on developing, owning, and operating commercial properties. Their work concentrated on shopping centers throughout the Los Angeles area After his father passed away in 2005, he continued to operate and expand the company. Over time, his two sons and his son-in-law joined the Kasirer Family Office and its various subsidiaries. They now oversee daily operations while he serves as Chairman, continuing to guide the business's strategic direction
The Neshamah Project
Throughout his life, he has remained guided by his Jewish identity, his family history, and the understanding that each generation must contribute to sustaining Jewish life. Influenced by his parents’ experiences and the legacy of the Holocaust, he has often considered how Jewish communities have preserved their traditions and values despite adversity He believes that the same responsibility continues today, particularly in a digital era where many younger Jews feel increasingly distant from traditional institutions
This belief motivated the creation of Neshamah The platform aims to serve as the first complete digital ecosystem for Jewish life, providing a central place for individuals and organizations to learn, connect, discover, and grow. Its purpose is to make Jewish content accessible regardless of location, denomination, or level of affiliation Neshamah encourages a shift from separate programs to connected platforms and from reactive approaches to thoughtful, long-term planning. Supporting a networked ecosystem rather than a centralized one, it brings together technology and tradition to strengthen identity and engagement For him, the project represents a way to offer tools that help Jewish life remain meaningful and active in changing times.
Personal Life
He has been married to his wife for 48 years. Together, they have four children and thirteen grandchildren, all of whom are boys and girls His personal interests include skiing, hiking, and traveling Through his travels, he enjoys learning about the cultures, traditions, and environments of the places he visits.
Robert Kasirer continues to devote himself to his family, his community work, and the projects he has built, carrying forward the legacy and values that have guided him throughout his life.
