ESTHER STEIN TREES OF LIFE WALL

The Esther Stein Trees of Life Wall is a stunning mural that graces a panel of the main staircase leading up to the second floor of RHA. As students, staff and guests enter the school and journey up to and from classes, they are welcomed by the colourful design.

The theme and title of the artwork is a testament to family and legacy. This meaningful tribute is bestowed by donor Keith Stein to honour his mother, a strong woman who overcame tragedy during the Holocaust, immigrated to Canada and went on to lead a successful life as a mother and grandmother.

Honouring the essence of Dor L’Dor (Generations), the painting features three magnificent trees, adorned with branches and 54 green leaves. Each leaf is designed to showcase a beautifully framed 5 x 7 photo of loved ones. It’s a way to celebrate and commemorate the special people who influence and impact a child’s life.

Keith Stein is a businessman and is also Counsel at Dentons Canada LLP. He supports numerous Jewish charities and non-profit organizations, and has been a board member of various foundations including Ontario Place and Canada’s Walk of Fame. He was introduced to RHA by a friend who is an RHA parent. Keith was looking for a way to honour his mother and the friend suggested RHA for its role in preparing the next generation of thinkers, leaders and innovators. The choice was clear for Keith as this is not only important to Esther, but Beth Tzedec plays a significant part in her life as she regularly engages in activities at the synagogue.

CLASSROOM REFRESH PROJECT

Classrooms have been re-designed into brilliant modern spaces with flexibility for interdisciplinary learning, whole-group teaching and small group work. RHA classrooms have been refreshed to support our 21st century education. Elements include new and revistalized flooring, fresh paint, furniture, cabinetry and smart-TVs.

MALCA AND DAVID REISS MIDDLE SCHOOL

Over the past few years, RHA has rethought and reinvigorated the middle school program with a new curriculum, new programs and new approaches to teaching and learning. The third floor space however needed updating to match the cutting edge academics.

Thanks to a generous gift donation from Dani Reiss, the new Malca and David Reiss Middle School at RHA is a fresh environment to energize, excite and ignite thinking, innovation and learning. The third floor is virtually unrecognizable from its former state. The hallways are bright and inviting areas with new flooring, lighting, lockers, technology and cheerful pops of colour.

The Malca and David Reiss Middle School is an extraordinary homage bestowed by Dani Reiss, Chairman and CEO at Canada Goose, and RHA (formerly USDS) alum, in honour of his parents.

Malca and David Reiss were the children of observant Jewish families who immigrated to Canada. They came from humble beginnings and worked hard to provide the best they could for their children, which included an education at RHA. Jewish education was very important to them, and they instilled the importance of giving tzedakah.

Dani shared that RHA had an impact and played a part in the journey of his life – which has been exciting, interesting and full of incredible experiences. He is happy to count his education as a part of those experiences.

Middle school was a significant time for Dani and his support in this area comes from his belief that this is a fundamental period in every young person’s life. Some of his favourite childhood memories are from that time.

Dani shared, “I hope that this gift helps contribute to the lives of those who attend the school, that the experience that I had can be shared with even more people, and that others may be inspired to give back if they are able to.”
